Angelina Jolie Meets with Syrian Refugees at Jordan Border

Angelina Jolie listens intently and records the stories of refugees who had just escaped the war in Syria by crossing the Jaber border on Tuesday (June 18) in Jordan.

The 38-year-old actress, who is a UNHCR Special Envoy, said that the purpose of her visit is “to show support for Syria’s refugees, to call on the world to address their plight, and to better understand needs in Jordan and other countries in the region most directly affected by this devastating conflict.”

Angie is in Jordan to mark World Refugee Day, which is commemorated each year on June 20.

“The worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century is unfolding in the Middle East today,” Angelina added. “By the end of this year half of Syria’s population – ten million people – are expected to be displaced and in desperate need.”

Wartime rape not inevitable: Angelina Jolie -
—————————————————————-
India Blooms News Service
-
London, Apr 12 (IBNS): Hollywood superstar and special envoy for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Angelina Jolie on Thursday joined foreign ministers from the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized countries here as they pledged to fight against rape and other sexual violence in conflict.
-
The Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence, which was endorsed by all G8 members – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain and the United States – commits the group to help victims of sexual violence in war, prevent further attacks and hold perpetrators responsible for their crimes, with USD 35.5 million in funding targeted to those efforts.
-
Speaking at the G8 meeting on Thursday, Jolie welcomed the Declaration but said it was “long overdue” for sexual violence survivors.
“For too long, they have been the forgotten victims of war, responsible for none of the blame but bearing the worst of the pain,” Jolie said, adding that millions of people will be watching to see countries implement the commitments made on Thursday.
“Wartime rape is not inevitable,” Jolie said.
-
At the launch of the Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence in London on Thursday, UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Zainab Hawa Bangura said: “We have an opportunity like at no time before in history to break the back of this age-old evil.”
-
In a statement, Bangura stressed that the Declaration “affirms our conviction that this crime constitutes a fundamental threat to international peace and security, and as such requires an operational and strategic security and justice response.”
-
She noted that conflict-related sexual violence does not only affect one person, but is an assault on the peace and security of entire communities. This crime makes post-conflict reconciliation more difficult, and hinders efforts to create enduring peace.
-
“Even as we concentrate on our obligations to the survivors of sexual violence – the critical health, psycho-social, legal and other services needed for them to rebuild their lives – we now also train a more concerted spotlight on all those who commit, command, or condone sexual violence in conflict,” Bangura said.
-
She added that perpetrators should be pursued by any and all means, and emphasized that by doing so the stigma of this crime would be transferred from the victims to the perpetrators.

Angelina Jolie visits Syrian border
————————————————–
News Stories, 19 June 2013
-
border crossing, Jordan–Along a dirt track on an unexpectedly cool and windy night on Jordan’s border with Syria, as shadows lengthened across the barren hills, UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie listened to the stories of men women and children who had fled Syria just hours before. She heard stories of bombs and pain and loss from people fleeing Homs, Dara’a and Qusair, three of the communities devastated by the Syrian conflict. Ms. Jolie encouraged the refugees to tell her, and through her the world, of their ordeal. “We can’t know your pain,” Ms. Jolie said at one point, speaking to families who had lost their loved ones. But she listened.
-
Ms. Jolie is in Jordan to mark World Refugee Day, which each year is commemorated on June 20. She and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres, arrived in the country on 18 June. Mr Guterres started his visit to the region in Lebanon, where he met with refugees and government officials. In Jordan, he and Ms. Jolie will meet with the government and refugees living in Jordan’s cities, as well as in the sprawling Za’atri refugee camp.
The purpose of her visit, said Ms. Jolie, is “to show support for Syria’s refugees, to call on the world to address their plight, and to better understand needs in Jordan and other countries in the region most directly affected by this devastating conflict.”
-
At the Syrian border, Ms. Jolie heard stories of great courage and sadness. Mohammed Al-Kassem, his wife Walida and their young daughter Faten had just arrived after escaping from Qusair, the site of a bitter battle which left the town in rubble and unleashed a new wave of refugees into neighbouring countries. “In the battles and bombing, most of my friends died,” he said. “There is nothing left, all was destroyed, no buildings, no medicines. Ninety five men died because their wounds became infected and there was nothing to treat them with. I was the only one of my family to escape. Those who could not flee can only wait for death.”
-
After meeting with refugees, Ms Jolie was briefed by Maj. General Hussein Al-Zyoud, the commander of the Jordan Border Security Forces, and his staff. As they talked, shelling just across the border in Syria could be clearly heard. The war in Syria forced more people to flee last year than any other conflict in the world. In the last six months the number has more than doubled to 1.6 million, of whom 540,000 are in Jordan.
“The worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century is unfolding in the Middle East today,” said Ms. Jolie. “By the end of this year half of Syria’s population – ten million people – are expected to be displaced and in desperate need.”She urged the world to do much more to help the people of Syria. “The international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy,” she said. “Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found.”

UN warns of worst refugee crisis in nearly 20 years
——————————————————————–
Conflicts in Syria, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mali push number of displaced people to more than 45 million

-
The world is in the throes of its most serious refugee crisis for almost 20 years, as conflicts in Syria, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mali have forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes, the UN’s refugee agency has said.
In its global trends report (pdf), UNHCR said more than 45.2 million people were displaced last year, the largest number since 1994. This includes 15.4 million refugees, 937,000 asylum seekers, and 28.8 million internally displaced people (IDPs) – those forced to find refuge within the borders of their own countries.
-
“These truly are alarming numbers. They reflect individual suffering on a huge scale and they reflect the difficulties of the international community in preventing conflicts and promoting timely solutions for them,” said António Guterres, UN high commissioner for refugees and head of UNHCR.
The number of 28.8 million IDPs is the highest level in more than two decades, mainly because of the war in Syria. The three-year conflict, which has claimed 90,000 lives, has led to 4.25 million Syrians being internally displaced and more than 1.6 million refugees, concentrated in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. Last week the UN launched its biggest appeal – $5bn (£3.2bn) – as it warned that half of Syria’s population will need humanitarian aid by the end of the year.
-
Globally, 7.6 million people fled their homes last year, of whom 1.1 million were refugees and 6.5 million internally displaced. This is equivalent to a new refugee or internally displaced person every 4.1 seconds.African countries have emerged as pioneers in addressing the problem of IDPs. In December, the Kampala convention, the world’s first legally binding instrument to outline the obligations of governments to protect and assist IDPs, came into force.
Signed, although not necessarily ratified, by 37 of the 53 members of the African Union, the convention binds governments to provide legal protection for the rights and wellbeing of those forced to flee within their countries because of conflict, violence, natural disasters or development projects.
Under the convention, governments must gather data and identify IDPs to understand where they are and what they need, provide personal identification documents, trace families and help reunite them, and consult IDPs in decisions on their needs.
-
Children under 18 comprise 46% of refugees. A record 21,300 asylum applications submitted during 2012 were from children unaccompanied or separated from their parents.Countries bearing the biggest burden of refugees tend to be in the developing world. Pakistan last year continued to host more refugees than any other country (1.6 million), followed by Iran (868,200) and Germany (589,700). Developing countries host 8.5 million refugees (81% of the world’s total compared with 70% a decade ago).
-
Afghanistan remains the largest source of refugees, a position it has held for 32 years. One in four refugees worldwide is Afghan, with 95% located in Pakistan or Iran. Somalia, another war-ravaged country, was the second-largest source of refugees in 2012, although the rate of outflow has slowed as the country has stabilised. Iraqis were the third-largest refugee group (746,700), followed by Syrians (471,400).
As for solutions, voluntary repatriation provides the most durable response, followed by local integration and resettlement to a third country, although this option is open to few refugees.
-
According to the report: “Voluntary repatriation is the durable solution for the largest number or refugees. It requires the commitment of the country of origin to protect and to reintegrate its own citizens back into their home communities.”Over the past 10 years, 7.2 million refugees were repatriated, but only 836,500 were resettled. Last year, more than 500,000 were able to return home. The main countries of return were Afghanistan, Iraq, Ivory Coast and Syria. Most of the Afghans and Iraqis had been in exile for many years before their return. Of the repatriating Syrian and Ivorian refugees, most returned after only one or two years in exile, but with the prospects for continued violence in Syria and DRC, returns to these countries are likely to be poor.
The world’s four largest refugee camps are in Kenya, known collectively as Dadaab, home to about 500,000 refugees. Nyaragusu camp in Tanzania is the world’s fifth-largest camp, home to 68,100 refugees, mainly from DRC.

UN: Syria civil war pushes number of world refugees, displaced people up to 45.2 million
————————————————————————————–
These are the highest numbers since 1994, when people fled genocide in Rwanda and bloodshed in former Yugoslavia, the UN refugee agency reports.
The civil war in Syria contributed to push the numbers of refugees and those displaced by conflict within their own nation to an 18-year high of 45.2 million worldwide by the end of 2012, the UN refugee agency said Wednesday.
-
Those are the highest numbers since 1994, when people fled genocide in Rwanda and bloodshed in former Yugoslavia.
By the end of last year, the world had 15.4 million refugees, 937,000 asylum seekers and 28.8 million people who had been forced to flee within the borders of their own countries, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said in a report.
-
Of those, 17 percent were new to their situations in 2012: 1.1 million new refugees and 6.5 million new internally displaced people.
That translates into someone becoming a new refugee or internally displaced person somewhere in the world every 4.1 seconds during the last year, said Antonio Guterres, head of the Geneva-based agency, also known as UNHCR.
-
“Which means each time you blink, another person is forced to flee,” he told reporters in Geneva.
Children below the age of 18 accounted for 46 percent of refugees worldwide. Most of the refugees in the world have fled from five war-affected countries: Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Syria and Sudan. The overall numbers rose by 6 percent increase from the 42.5 million refugees and internally displaced people in the world at the end of 2011.

Refugee activist extraordinaire Angelina Jolie returns to Jordan

Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie has arrived in Jordan as part of a UNHCR trip to the Zaatari refugee camp.
During her stay, Jolie is said to be meeting with Jordanian officials to discuss the inflow of Syrian refugees across Jordan’s northern border, as well as how the Kingdom has been affected.
-
Sources say Jolie is then scheduled to visit several sites on the border where refugees commonly cross into Jordan. There she will be acquainted with ongoing efforts by the border patrol to assist incoming refugees.
-
For Jolie’s final stop, she will meet Syrian families to hear their stories and determine what more can be done for them by international aid agencies.
This is Jolie’s third trip to Jordan during the Syrian civil war.
She traveled with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Zaatari refugee camp in September and December 2012. During her first visit to the camp near the Syrian border, the population of refugees was around 30,000. Today, that number is around 120,000, according to the New York Times.
-
Jolie has a history of bringing global issues into the limelight, having traveled to refugee camps in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Haiti with the UNHCR.

ANGELINA IS TRULY BRAVE!

Angelina is brave, inspirational, admired, passionate, kind hearted, loving. Just beautiful. She’s my hero!!

Queen Jolie @ 06/19/2013 at 9:30 am

Just saw pic of this Melissa Etheridge at CB,oh my, I didn’t know she looks like a grandma already. She is not only ugly inside but also outside. She is so jealous of the attention Angie is getting that is why she is criticizing a woman who make abrave decision for the love of her family.Hope she is happy now because she got a lot of attention just by mentioning Angelina Jolie.

Watching the ugly hag handler to see if she piles on per her orders. Audience is very cool, no one’s really laughing – which is no surprise…as she’s not funny.

@Roseanne:#27, Hi Roseanne, your comment was funny. ME is still catching he’ll for saying she don’t consider Angelina brave. I consider Angelina one of the greatest woman I have read about in HW. Angelina will go to these dangerous places around the world to bring awareness to the sufferings of women and children. I remember seeing a pregnant Angelina with a bomb vest around her pregnant stomach doing her UN work. Anyway, ME made her bed now she has to lay in it. I checked CB and ME is still catching he’ll for her clarification statement. I hope she understands never insert yourself in other peoples medical decisions. Btw, good luck with her new album.

Queen Jolie @ 06/19/2013 at 9:36 am

@Queen Jolie:

Use your own name please.I will never apologize for my opinion about Brad, period.

i want to run angelina’s life for her

if i demand angelina makes 5 movies a year for me to watch, she better do it!

Queen Jolie @ 06/19/2013 at 9:37 am

@Queen Jolie:

hey stop using my name

I believe this is a rerun. She was so boring and not funny (handjob). Kelly Ripa had funnier lines.

WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED IS THAT ANGELINA’S FAMILY MEMBERS, EXCEPTION (HER FATHER), FRIENDS, BUSINESS ASSOCIATES, THEY DO NOT SAY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT ANGELINA. IT’S VERY WEIRD ON THE OTHER HAND THAT BRAD’S SO CALLED FRIENDS, ALWAYS COME OUT NEGATIVE WHEN ANGELINA IS ACHIEVING.

were the morons @ 06/19/2013 at 9:41 am

@CLINIQUA: oh you mean her show chelsea lately?

Angelina is really something. She’s committed, driven and passionate.

they are not close friends @ 06/19/2013 at 9:43 am

@BP:

they are only people brad knew via maniston.
brad hasn’t seen ME for years. ME is a hen

@CLINIQUA: Hi CLINIQUA, I refused to watch Kelly and Michael today because they had the hater CH. And I do like both Kelly and Michael. Btw, the the hag CH mentioned Angie?

Just a follow up to ME debacle, yes, she did step into it this time. People are even talking about how she treated her partner after she recovered from Brest Cancer. One person commented… that was not brave of her, ME for leaving her partner/wife and children penniless, ouch.

@Rose:
.
Hey Rose, no I finally turned it after realizing Kelly and Michael was a rerun. It was hard to sit thru for even the two min I did, handjob is such a bore.

@BP:

really; I have never heard David Fincher, Guy Richie, Gavin, Eric Roth, Katherine Keener, or the REAL Brad friends that have been in his life for the past 9 or so years say a negative thing about Angelina. not one. Brad said he has a very small circle of Friends. yes Melissa was an OLD friend get it OLD friend who never called him when she found out about Angie. So you may need to really check who Brad’s actual friends are. If she was that close she would have been a part of that tight circle. she was not. And just like people should keep their noses out of someone personal medical choice. Total strangers should STFU about someone’s personal relationship. you are not Angie’s friend. You don’t know Brad. she does. and he makes her happy. So see you are not a part of the equation. now go take care of your own relationship if you have one. Bet you don’t

Good Morning Phool & Rose

My New York buddies. What’s up girls? Looks like Rose has a beautiful garden. Coming your way tomorrow to be with my friends. Love LI. but Astoria is my town which has Beer Garden, Astoria Park and the great big swimming pool and great restaurants. Love Flushing Meadows as they are going to expand the Tennis Center with more courts and a new soccer stadium.

Angie you have a great heart. Admire her so much. Thanks JJ for the new thread for Angie.

Passing Through @ 06/19/2013 at 9:54 am

I love the fact that Angie continues to go about her business completely oblivious to the yapping hounds TRYING to nip at her heels. Go, Angie! Haters to the left, then down the hall and out the back door. Arrividerci, biiatches.

ROSEANNE: IT WAS FROM BRAD’S MOUTH SHE IS AN OLD FRIEND. OLD OR NEW FRIEND WHAT DOES IT MATTER, WHAT IS BRAD SAYING THEN, DOES HE USE THE WORD FRIENDSHIP LOOSELY, OR WHEN ITS CONVENIENT FOR HIM?

@CLINIQUA: Thanks! It looks like ME is doubling down saying what Angie was not brave but fearful and they are giving her he’ll at Celebitchy.

its so clever how even though shes barely in the media, her name is so big that she doesnt even need to be seen just hearing the news of her taking her breasts out makes people warm to her. its pretty amazing if u ask me although im not really a fan.

What exactly does she do besides meeting people, listening and posing for dramatic pictures? Humanitarian? Pathetic attention *****, that’s all.

It’s amazing how she stares at that poor little boy as if he was her own son.

UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie in Jordan, visits Syrian border
———————————————————————————————–
Press Releases, 19 June 2013 2 Hours ago
-
Hollywood actress and UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie is in Jordan to mark World Refugee Day, which each year is commemorated on June 20. Ms Jolie arrived in the country on 18 June, and was joined there overnight by UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres who flew in from Lebanon. Mr Guterres and Ms Jolie will be meeting government officials and refugees living in Jordan’s cities, as well as in the sprawling Za’atri refugee camp.
-
The purpose of her visit, said Ms Jolie, is “to show support for Syria’s refugees, to call on the world to address their plight, and to better understand needs in Jordan and other countries in the region most directly affected by this devastating conflict.” On Tuesday night Ms Jolie travelled to the Jordan-Syria border, where she listened to accounts from men, women, and children who had fled Syria just hours before. She heard stories of bombs and pain and loss from people fleeing Homs, Dara’a and Qusair, three of the communities devastated by the Syrian conflict.
-
Ms Jolie encouraged the refugees to tell her, and through her the world, of their ordeal. “We can’t know your pain,” Ms Jolie said at one point, speaking to families who had lost their loved ones. She met Mohammed Al-Kassem, his wife Walida and their young daughter Faten who had just arrived after escaping from Qusair, the site of a bitter battle which left the town in rubble and unleashed a recent wave of refugees into neighbouring countries. “In the battles and bombing, most of my friends died,” he said. “There is nothing left, all was destroyed, no buildings, no medicines. Ninety-five men died because their wounds became infected and there was nothing to treat them with. I was the only one of my family to escape. Those who could not flee can only wait for death.”
-
After meeting with refugees, Ms Jolie was briefed by Maj.-General Hussein Al-Zyoud, the commander of the Jordan Border Security Forces, and his staff. As they talked, shelling just across the border in Syria could be clearly heard. The war in Syria forced some half a million people to flee last year. In the last six months the number has more than doubled to 1.6 million, of whom 540,000 are in Jordan.
-
“The worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century is unfolding in the Middle East today,” said Ms. Jolie. And yet, she added, “the international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy. Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found.” She urged the world to do much more to help the people of Syria. “The international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy,” she said. “Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found.”

Additional Information:
About World Refugee Day, June 20 2013
World Refugee Day was established by the UN General Assembly in late 2000 and is marked each year on 20 June. For World Refugee Day 2013 UNHCR has launched a campaign highlighting the strength and resilience of the more than 45 million people around the world forced to flee their homes due to war or persecution. Multiple refugee emergencies in recent month have forced record numbers of people to flee – yet the vast majority of media coverage given over to the conflicts in Syria, Mali, South Sudan and DRC, rarely focuses on the human cost of war. UNHCR’s “1 family” campaign aims to remind the world that the victims of war are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters and that even 1 family torn apart by war is too many.

The Word: Angelina Jolie meets with Syrian refugees
—————————————————————————
Angelina Jolie traveled to the Syria-Jordan border to meet with Syrian refugees yesterday. Jolie is a Special Envoy for UNHCR, the UN’s council on refugees, and her trip to Jordan was in honor of World Refugee Day, which is tomorrow. The purpose of Angelina’s visit is “to show support for Syria’s refugees, to call on the world to address their plight, and to better understand needs in Jordan and other countries in the region most directly affected by this devastating conflict,” she said, according to Just Jared.
-
“The worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century is unfolding in the Middle East today,” Angelina continued. “By the end of this year half of Syria’s population – ten million people – are expected to be displaced and in desperate need.”
At least they got to hang out with Angelina Jolie. That’s gotta take the sting out of the whole “losing your home to brutal war” thing. Oh, it doesn’t at all? OK.
-
A stunt double for Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie has sued News Corp over allegations its British newspapers hacked her phone, the first lawsuit in the United States against the company since the scandal broke two years ago. The lawsuit, filed on June 13 by professional stunt double Eunice Huthart, said reporters from News Corp’s tabloids The Sun and the defunct News of the World, hacked her mobile phone while she was working for Jolie on location in Los Angeles.

Angelina Jolie Meets Syrian Refugees in Jordan—See the Pic
—————————————————————————————–
by Josh Grossberg Today 7:04 AM PDT
-
While partner Brad Pitt continues to make the promotional rounds Stateside to hype his forthcoming zombie epic, World War Z, Angelina Jolie is taking time out of her busy schedule for a much more serious mission: comforting refugees whose lives have been upended by Syria’s civil war.
-
The Oscar winner traveled to Jordan on Tuesday, where she met with new Syrian refugees at the Jordan border as part of a fact-finding effort in her role as a special envoy for UNHRC, the U.N. refugee agency. She also embarked on the trip to mark World Refugee Day, which will be commemorated tomorrow, June 20.
-
NEWS: Angie also checked up on Syrian refugees last September
While meeting with refugees at the Jaber border crossing, Jolie listened to stories of families whose loved ones have been killed, whose homes have been destroyed by bombs and whose towns have been left devastated by fighting that’s led to the deaths of 93,000 people and created more than 1.6 million refugees.
-
In a post on UNHRC’s website, Jolie said the aim of her visit is “to show support for Syria’s refugees, to call on the world to address their plight, and to better understand needs in Jordan and other countries in the region most directly affected by his devastating conflict.”
The actress, who last visited the Jordanian border in December, urged the world to step up humanitarian aid to keep pace with the tragedy and find a political settlement to the conflict.

‘Truly alarming’: Syria conflict boosts worldwide refugee numbers to highest number for almost two decades
———————————————————————————————–UN reports that more than 7m fled homes in last year, many from Syria crisis
Adam Withnall
-
The UN estimates that the worldwide number of refugees and internally displaced people is now at its highest level since 1994.
By the end of 2012 there were 45.2m people considered as forcibly displaced due to persecution, conflict, and human rights violations, of which over 15m were international refugees and almost one million were still seeking asylum. The figure nearly matches the one at the height of the crises in Rwanda and former Yugoslavia.
-
According to a report from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), an estimated 7.6m people had fled their homes in 2012 alone, including over a million newly arrived refugees.”These truly are alarming numbers. They reflect individual suffering on a huge scale and they reflect the difficulties of the international community in preventing conflicts and promoting timely solutions for them,” said UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres.
-
The figures equate to a new refugee or internally displaced person somewhere in the world every 4.1 seconds during the last year. “Which means each time you blink, another person is forced to flee,” Mr Guterres said. The conflict in Syria is reported to have contributed significantly to the new figures, and 55 per cent of all refugees worldwide came from just five countries: Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, the Syrian Arab Republic, and Sudan. Pakistan continued to host the largest number of refugees in the world (1.64 million), nearly all from Afghanistan.
-
According to the report around 21,300 asylum applications were lodged by unaccompanied or separated children last year, mostly from Afghanistan and Somalia. It was the highest number on record since UNHCR started collecting such data in 2006. Children below 18 years constituted 46 per cent of the refugee population in 2012. The UN also said that, with one exception, the 10 major refugee-hosting countries in 2012 were the same as in 2011. The United States of America dropped out of the list of the top 10, and Turkey moved in into 10th place. Together, these 10 countries hosted 5.8 million or 55 per cent of all refugees worldwide. The United Kingdom hosted almost 150,000 refugees at the end of 2012. There were 201 people who had sought or were seeking international asylum from Britain.

Angelina Jolie says Syria crisis ‘worst’, calls for more aid

Heartened to see that Angelina’s dedication to her work on behalf of displaced persons continues.
.
Her work witnessing for these people, lobbying on their behalf both in the US and with foreign governments and NGOs as well as highlighting their plight and their needs has proven invaluable to them and to the UN. Her work has attracted more donations than that of any other UNHCR rep.
.
Kudos to her for seeing a problem and translating her initial interest and concern into concrete efforts to help them. This is what a real human being does. This is what a real woman does. She is a great example for her own children and for others. She is truly an inspiration.

Angie continues to fight the good fight on behalf of refugees around the world. She is resolute (hey haters, that means brave!) in her responsibilities and in giving a voice to those who go unheard. The UN certainly struck gold with Angie. They’ve got to be so thankful and appreciative for Angie’s work as well as the visibility and awareness she brings to efforts they’ve been battling for decades. I’ve certainly learned so much from Angie’s missions over the past 10 years and from hearing her speak about the causes, effects and consequences of massive refugee migration in the world and the instability in causes, especially for the families directly impacted. She is such a wonderful role model and inspiration to young girls growing up all over the world. I truly hope young girls are paying attention and follow in her footsteps. The world would certainly be a much better place with more people like Angie in it.

SPONGEBOB :p @ 06/19/2013 at 1:41 pm

BRAVO, BRAVE ANGELINA!!!!!!!! She’s living her life, doing great things to others…using her time, effort, and love to help those who are needy. She is their VOICE for us to hear, learn, and do some action. Some wealthy celebrities are donating money to help but Angelina is not only using or giving her money but also physically there for the people.

Angie, you’re one of a kind….you’re a living hero!!!!!!!

@What the point?: I disagree with your assumption. The UN would not keep asking her to go on these trips if it did not help. But lets say it is true. What kind of world would we have it people don’t try to make things better. If one child gets joy out of Angelina being there than it helps.
.
I am sure Angelina’s doctors would not let her go on these trips if they were worried. So she does not need your opinion on her health.

putang*ina ka rin! Angie went to Syria with UN people to talk to Assad to help the refugees as they always do.

Just a comment @ 06/19/2013 at 3:04 pm

@What’s the point? – Why does this bother you? When someone is suffering its good to do something good for someone else and that also helps you heal yourself. Let her go there. She’s not hurting anyone and if the UN didn’t think her trips helped they wouldn’t send her on more trips. Maybe you should do something for someone else and make your community a better place. I don’t think Angelina is a saint, but she does good with her celebrity. Let her be.

That would be a big fat no to all haters.
As for ME that kind of talk will go in one ear and out the other as is a waste of time to tell another women how to save herself from breast cancer. All the best to Angie, Brad and their lovely family.

World War Z’ as entertaining as hell, thanks to Brad Pitt and non-stop action

Burt Reynolds David Morse

Segen Daniella Kertesz

Constance Lane Sterling Jerins

Rachel Lane Abigail Hargrove

Thierry Fana Mokoena

Paramount Pictures presents a film directed by Marc Forster. Written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, J. Michael Straczynski, Drew Goddard, Damon Lindelof and Max Brooks, based on the novel by Max Brooks. Rated PG-13 (for intense, frightening zombie sequences, violence and disturbing images). Running time: 116 minutes. Opening Friday at local theaters.

Like the heroes in just about every end-of-the-world thriller ever made, Brad Pitt’s Gerry in “World War Z” has the ability to see things no one else can see, figure out things no one else can figure out, overcome obstacles no one else can overcome.

The doctors and scientists frantically searching for the origins of the mutation that caused the Zombie Apocalypse, the leaders of the Armed Forces evacuating cities and trying to figure out how to kill these things, the remaining diplomats and elected officials barking orders even as entire cities are overrun — at one point or another, they all get out of the way and let Gerry do this thing.

And why not? He’s Brad Pitt. Even in that dubious haircut that makes him look like a drag queen in the very early stages of figuring out who he is, he’s BRAD PITT. If you can’t get TOM CRUISE or WILL SMITH, you can’t do much better than BRAD PITT, am I right?

Before Gerry retired from a life of constant danger to be with his family, he was a United Nations investigator of the highest order, the best in the world at solving, um, all sorts of international crimes in the most harrowing circumstances imaginable. (And yes, before all hell breaks loose and Gerry has to spring into action, we get the obligatory Chaotic Breakfast Scene, with Gerry making pancakes for his gorgeous buzz kill of a wife and their two impossibly adorable daughters, with Mom and Dad exchanging loving glances every five seconds because life is perfect and what could possibly go wrong?)

There’s not a whole of explanation for why zombies are overrunning cities around the world, swarming in huge herds like fast-motion ants and “turning” nearly every human in their path. (In one particularly cool special effect, the super-fast zombies climb an insurmountable wall by creating their own Zombie Ladder, clawing over one another to get to the tasty human flesh on the other side.) All we need to know is that Gerry is humanity’s best hope to figure out the source of this virus and get to work on a cure before the population is wiped out.

There’s plenty of tension, measured doses of gore and some terrific set pieces as Gerry’s quest takes him from Korea to Jerusalem to Nova Scotia. Even when he’s safely in the air, he might not necessarily be safe.

If you’re as zombie’d out as I am by now, and you feel “The Walking Dead” cable TV series has set the all-time standard for popular culture entertainment about the flesh-chomping undead, your reluctance to see “World War Z” is understandable. All I can tell you is, there’s fresh blood here, just as there was in the oddly endearing “Warm Bodies” a few months ago.

“World War Z” trafficks in a lot of familiar territory, but thanks to the wickedly vibrant source material (Max Brooks’ 2006 horror novel), some slick and darkly funny directorial choices by Marc Forster and terrific performances from Pitt and the supporting cast, it’s entertaining as hell.

While “World War Z” provides nearly non-stop action, there are only a few scenes of the zombies chomping madly at the air as they sniff out their prey or dig into another meal. Rated PG-13, “World War Z” isn’t nearly as gruesome as a typical episode of “The Walking Dead.” This is more of a thriller than a sci-fi bloodbath, with a couple of brilliantly constructed sequences where the humans are trying to be really quiet, and the zombies are starting to stir, and you just know somebody’s going to clang into something or let a door slam, and then it will be time to RUN!

At times, the attempts to get profound and draw real-world parallels to contagious diseases are close to unintentionally funny. The paths placed in Gerry’s way range from the plausible to “you’ve got to be kidding me.” And Gerry’s lightbulb moment occurs to him about a half-hour after a good percentage of audience members will figure it out.

The only movie hero faster, stronger and nobler than Gerry in theaters right now is Superman. Even after this guy has survived a plane crash and he’s got a sheaf of metal sticking through his mid-section, Gerry needs just three days to recover before he’s back at it, leading the charge against the zombies. It’s ridiculous, but Pitt sells it.

ANGELINA HAS WORKED HARD SINCE SHE WAS SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. ANGELINA IS VERY POLARIZED PERSON IN THE U.S.. SHE IS NOT CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE, THE ALL AMERICAN GIRL. SHE DOES NOT WANT THAT TITLE.

I’m posting here.

Nice review from Roeper. Very nice and not many spoilers. I’m so stoked for this. Going with a big group of friends and we are all Brad/Angie fans so it will be a fun night. Keep the good buzz going..

Am I the only one that has noticed the ONLY time she seems to do this, is when there is SOMETHING to promote? Pittiful pimping his movie, and his baby mama now out pimping for him…. Wow!

omg u goth people are outta control. please it is 2013

@BP:

damn calm the F down and stop screaming. Nobody is reading it, but undo the cap lock..

@joe.. yeah they established WRD because they knew Brad was going to have a movie released in 2013.. And nobody goes to see movies because a celebrity goes to a Refugee camp. If that was all it took then the camps would be full D listers getting attention. Angie has been doing this for years. But you know that. hey let your hate shine. Won’t change how respected she is. That is what really pisses you off.. Good..

World Refugee Day @ 06/19/2013 at 6:27 pm

Each year on June 20th the United Nations and countless civic groups around the world celebrate World Refugee Day.

World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. Millions need your help.

Trolls are so stupid. This Joe person think Angelina had the UN set up World Refugee Day to coinside with the release of WWZ.
Even though World Refugee Day was started by the UN in 2001.

My Lady

God bless her for all she has done and is still doing for refugees from different part of the globe she has brought the plight of many suffers to the four-front.

Y’all Bow!!!

Not that ironically, new reports claim that the radical followers of the false prophet are now dominating the rebellion against the eye doctor in Domaskus. It happened in Egypt and Turkey, so why not Syria? And they are running wild in Lybia too…

you are an f’in idiot. You do realize this is for World Refugee Day which existed way before this film. Do tell Joe what was ANgie promoting when she went in September, December, and ths past March. sorry that unfortunatley for you and tampon wwz isnt the disaster you have been hoping and praying for.

@Wonderbust:

Oh, just wait idiot LOON… How could you possibly know whether it is going to be a success or not? The truth wil be revealed soon enough. Like when ALL the numbers are IN… Now, sit down and STHU!!!

Wonderbust @ 06/19/2013 at 6:51 pm

@Joe:
bwhahah you are an even bigger idiot than I thought. newsflash Joe the only site that reported Angelina’s trip is justjared. No one is going to decide to see WWZ because Angelina is in Jordan. Who in their right mind goes to see a movie because the significant other of the star is doing humanitarian work like she has for the past 12 years. “Hey lets go see WWZ tonight because Angelina is in Jordan” LMAO

were the morons @ 06/19/2013 at 6:56 pm

And the TOURIST was nominated for three Golden Globes. When was the last tiny ticky got nominated for a NON pre-paid award….

@Joe:

Well good Let’s hope the studios continue to do that. WRD needs a lot of attention. and I think it is awesome that Paramount did this. Maybe they will show a clip of a camp during the previews. Would get some of that movie money. And if this is a success other Studios will follow and gosh who knows WRD will be getting way more attention. I mean right now it all depends on whether or not a gossip site decides to run a story on Angie. She can’t do it all on her own. So BRAVO to Paramount for doing this..

Actions speak louder tha words.

..So I found that Etheridge clip where she’s talking about Brad and Angie, and starts to discuss how she hasn’t seen Brad ‘since he’s been with Angelina,’ when asked if it’s because she’s team aniston, she said ‘no, not necessarily,’ http://youtu.be/NijZkC2wwI4
.
If I had to guess why Brad moved on, I’d say this…she had already had kids with Julie cypher who she split with in the late 90s, and then weirdly she and Tammy Lynn got pregnant when Angie was preg with Shiloh..which seems oddly copy cat…I think brad saw her as she was, a not so nice hound dog who got high a lot….he moved on.

So sad about James Gandolfini.  Here is a nice interview with Brad & James from last fall re: Killing Them Softly.

In an interview with “Nightline” anchor Cynthia McFadden, Pitt and co-star James Gandolfini talked about starring in the new film, “Killing Them Softly,” which is out in theaters on Friday. Both actors play hit men, two old friends hired to chase down a group of wannabe criminals who decide to knock over a mob-protected card game.

Poor arrogant, delusional Melissa. I have read a lot of articles and their comments and it’s about 99% appalled by her comments and trashing ME and 1% agreeing with her and even many of those are critical of her for dissing Angie. LOL!
.
And in the wake of ME’s thorough public spanking, Ticky, who is not one to leave such an opportunity to coat tail untouched, has come out with a CYA, suck-up story of how she cried when she read or had read to her Angie’s OpEd. LOL! Yeaaaaa, right.
.
Ticky cites her friends who have gone through breast cancer as to why she’s so sympathetic to Angie – conspicuously omitting ME. ME must be invisible under the bus. Another LOL! Of course she includes a snide remark about how Angie and Brad began which destroys any grace points she may have earned.

James was a great person and a very, very good actor and the world have lost a extraordinaire and talent artist.

It must be really difficult for his family, especially is little kid to lose is dad so young. Sad, really sad.

Be in peace, James Gandolfini

I love ANGELINA. The rest of you losers aren’t doing sh*t for the world but posting on a message board!!! get a life!

Thanks, nada. That was kinda eerie when James said, “this is kind of the final nail in the coffin, this is where you are at the end.” when describing his character. James was pretty well known for not doing many interviews, so this could have been his last one. Also, Angie is the “Goodness Angel of the World” :)

thanks CLINIQUA, it´s clear why ME have said he disgusting and ignorant comments about Angie.

She have some “issues” with Brad and Angie since they come together.

It´s evident ME have jealous and envy of Angie and she is so arrogant that she can not fake or be just be elegant or polite. Her hate is in her eyes and expression and everybody in that video understand that and the presenter was “elegant and polite” and do not go further.

Hollywood Reporter
Box Office Preview: ‘Monsters University’ Pacing to Beat ‘World War Z’
-
6/19/2013 by Pamela McClintock
-
“Man of Steel” could also beat Brad Pitt’s zombie extravaganza, but even rivals agree that a predicted opening in the $45 million to $50 million range would mark a good start for “World War Z.”
-
Families are expected to flock to the multiplex in big numbers this weekend as Disney and Pixar open Monsters University, the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 pic Monsters, Inc.
-
Based on pre-release tracking, box observers believe the 3D toon has a strong shot of grossing $70 million or more in its debut, likely enough to beat out Brad Pitt’s high-profile zombie pic World War Z and holdover Man of Steel. Both Monsters U an World War Z rollout in select theaters at 8 p.m. Thursday.
-
Paramount is predicting an opening in the $40 million to $45 million for World War Z, which is rated PG-13. But more bullish box office observers with access to tracking believe the movie — produced by and starring Pitt — could open in the $50 million range, while Man of Steel could earn anywhere from $50 million to $60 million in its second outing.
-
Versus a big opening, Paramount and co-financing partner Skydance Productions is banking on World War Z to have a better-than-usual multiple, similar to other original tentpoles. Avatar debuted to $77 million in December 2009 on its way to cuming $760.5 million domestically, or 10 times its opening number. And in summer 2010, Christopher Nolan’s Inception grossed $292.6 million, nearly five times its $62 million debut.
-
Paramount insiders point out that very few original event pics open to $50 million or higher. And while Pitt may be one of the world’s most recognizable stars, his biggest opening was the $50.3 million earned by Mr. and Mrs. Smith in summer 2005.
-
World War Z, based on Max Brook’s 2006 novel of the same name, is a sizeable gamble for the studio, costing $190 million to produce after tax incentives. The budget was originally $150 million, but extensive reshoots bumped up the number (it was initially slotted to open in December 2010).
-
Directed by Marc Forster, the apocalyptic horror pic is a passion project for Pitt, who produced the movie via his Paramount-based production company Plan B. In the film, he plays a retired U.N. employee who must return to work and stop a worldwide pandemic that is turning humans into zombies. The Killing’s Mireille Enos stars as his wife.
-
World War Z, which has received generally positive reviews, will need to make a strong showing overseas, where it opens in 25 foreign markets this weekend, including the U.K., South Korea and Australia.

@Dawne: Ticky crying for Angie when Angie had her double mastectomy, please, she is crying because, nobody pays attention to her anymore. Ticky needs to grow up.

God bless the Jolie Pitt Family.

I look at these pics with Angelina and the kids. It is so sad what is happening. Angelina is so passionate, you see her listening, intently, but most importantly she listens with her heart. It gives me comfort to know these refugees have someone like Angelina to listen to them and helping them.

I bought my WWZ tickets in advance a few hours ago for Friday. My hubby, daughter, son and his friend are all going. My kids tease me about it, telling their friends that I am going to just to see Brad Pitt. I am for Brad, I also do like zombies – well some. I cannot wait. I know I am going to love it. http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/20707614-421/brad-pitt-a-fan-of-the-the-killing-finds-zombie-fighter-mireille-enos-there.html

Brad Pitt, a fan of the ‘The Killing,’ finds zombie fighter Mireille Enos there

In “World War Z,” Mireille Enos plays the wife of a zombie fighter — no easy task when that warrior’s real-life wife is an international humanitarian and sex symbol.

But there wasn’t much chance for movie makeout sessions with Brad Pitt.

“We spent a lot of time running for our lives,” says the gorgeous actress, who remembers a particularly action-packed sequence that the two filmed last year. “We’re in a car and the zombies are trying to smash through the windows. But that’s not the worst of it.”

Where is the one place you don’t want to be when under zombie attack? Enos answers, “We run into the housing projects and have to fight zombies in the stairwell. The moral of this moment was that you don’t hide in an enclosed stairwell when zombies are trying to eat you.”

The Houston native says that she did have a cheering section on the set. “Angelina [Jolie] showed up on the set. So did Brad’s two older boys and two older girls,” she says. “They’re just a lovely family. The boys were especially excited that their dad was trying to kill zombies.”

Her work on AMC’s “The Killing” is what interested Pitt, who called her in to read for the role “He’s a wonderful, classy guy and a harder worker. He’s a dad, of course, which really informed this role. He was great with our movie kids, too.”

“Above all, he’s just a nice, normal guy and Angie was lovely.”

Not so lovely is what’s going on during season three of “The Killing” where she plays Detective Sarah Linden. Peter Sarsgaard plays a convicted serial killer whose guilt is in doubt.

“I love that this character is so multi-faceted. She’s not a horrible *****, but she doesn’t feel the need to be likable,” Enos says of Sarah. “She’s complicated, closed and a good mother on some days. She’s incredible at what she does.

“She’s a human being.”

In real life, Mireille is married to Alan Ruck (Cameron of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”). “We did a play, had a showmance and got married,” she says.

“The only thing is, our daughter can’t see Mom’s movies. I need to make a comedy.”

@groundcontrol:

OMFG paid loon, what did I tell you about doing research before posting? Are you seriously posting a HuffPo video that is actually quoting Female First, of all places?!

Your clients will not be pleased. Bwahahahaha.

My sister and I just came back from the screening of World War Z. After all the surprise appearances that Brad was making, we were hoping he would show up. After all, we got to see Angie for the Anderson Cooper taping! Now we just need to see Brad. But NOOOOO he wasn’t there. We knew he wouldn’t he would show up after reading Passing Through saying he was on his way to Russia for the premiere. BUT we thought maybe just MAYBE he will do a quick surprise. Nope! Another time Brad! Anyway the movie was great. Go see it. I was jumping out of my seat for most of the movie.

Me thinks Ticky is crying with happiness ‘cuz she still believes Brad is gonna go back to her, and that’s the reason she postponed her wedding. I just hope JT realizes this and dumps her for good.

Lunch witb Shiloh @ 06/19/2013 at 11:37 pm

RIP Jimmy G. Loved Sopranos and KTS. He was also great in that funny In the Loop film. Any Sopranos fans might like this instgram. BTW, that old manny story about her crying for Angie is as fake as the one manny used to put out every 3-6 months that Brad took Shiloh to meet her and they had lunch. No adopted kids, naturally- adoption “isn’t her thing,”. Of course, manny never denied this story even though she denies every other little thing. Fat tick had to stop with the Shiloh rumor when the JPs began spending so much time overseas. That manny crying/ready to forgive Angie story came out almost the same day Angie’s op-ed was published, but it didn’t get any traction. Clearly, manny is giving it another go. She probably sees all the attention ME is getting coat tailing and pressed the resend button.

@the name is …..: that’s a cute name. Kind if expected for Kim to stick with the “K’s” for a name.

Putangina has hit a new low by showing up over there and put on her trademarked concerned look for these people. This ridiculous act of taking photos of her scribbling something on her tiny notepad is easy to see through. Of course her humanitarian advisor told her using her tablet wouldn’t be appropriate or socially conscious enough for her act. It would laughable if it weren’t so infuriating how she’s using these people to push her own agenda

What loons are not discussing is that not so long ago she was riding limos with none other than the tyrant rulers of Syria, the Assads, hanging out at the presidential palace and having a lavish dinner party thrown in their honor. Even Pitty went on to suggest that his bodyguards could help them train their military personnel.

Nevermind the fact that this happened on an UN-sponsored trip and how it speaks volumes of the big joke that this organization has become, but more importantly, it’s pretty obvious at this point how she’ll basically side with anyone that comes out the winner of this armed conflict, be it the government or the rebellion. I just don’t know how this evil, conniving, morally corrupt woman can look at these refugees with a straight face after partying with their opressors. Is there anything sacred for her? I don’t think there is.

Poor loons, anywhere you go, you’ll always be regarded as Brangeloonies or JP Trolls. Nobody thinks you’re normal, but that’s besides the point, fact is absolutely NOBODY thinks worshiping the Brand as you do is what normal fans would do. Mentioning the ex wife at every chance that you get? Definitely not normal behavior for a fan. Fantasizing about them 24/7 including sexualizing their offspring? Besides completely disgusting, definitely not normal for a fan.

You’re all regarded as mentally ill and unhappy in your lives. Even your idol Pitty thinks so, and even went as far as saying that you were missing “a touch” in yourselves. He hates your guts! All their security staff works to protect them from the likes of YOU! Now how does that feel, stalker?

@sunny:

Word of mouth has already killed this movie. They’ve lost the built in fanbase from the book that would’ve helped propel any positive buzz, had the story been faithful to the source. Now even the writer is dissing the film, surely that’s going to get a lot of people into movie theaters! LOL.

Scott Mendelson, Contributor
Review: ‘World War Z’ Lacks Bite

Box Office Take:

Quality aside (read the actual review for that verdict), the film is in trouble mostly because of its budget. Ironically, had the film come in at its original $125 million price tag, Paramount and company would have been fine. Brad Pitt is of course a big draw here and especially overseas, so it’s not impossible to presume that a 3D zombie action film starring Brad Pitt would have found at least $250-$300 million worldwide merely by default. But the reshoots and various production hurdles sent the budget well over $200 million, to as much as $250 million depending on who you believe.

So now the film basically has to make $500 million worldwide in order to even think about breaking even. But the film frankly lacks the kind of ‘must see’ moments that not only spur positive word of mouth but also repeat viewership. It’s a crowded summer, and World War Z was always considered one of the also-rans. That’s fine when you’re the $130 million After Earth (which *might* break even in the long run) or the $90 million Elysium, but when your film cost $250 million in the end, being one of the second-tier blockbusters isn’t good enough. The Lone Ranger may or may not have a similar problem in a couple weeks, but more on that later.

How is the paid loon going to spin this? :D

Holy shite! I just saw the news about James Gandolfini dying in Italy. I can’t believe he was only 51. I thought he was about 60 when I saw him in KTS with Brad. I can’t help but wonder if he had a heart attack. The story I read said nothing further was known, but given his height to weight ratio I can’t help but wonder.

So which one of these two hot chicks do you loons reckon Pitty took back to his hotel room in NYC?

WWZ Review
Just about every zombie movie I can think of is set, for the most part, in tightly defined spaces where groups of survivors huddle to fend off the flesh-hungry hordes outside. World War Z, which may be the most entertaining and accomplished zombie thriller since George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1979), has touches of that suspenseful high-tension claustrophobia. Yet it’s a very different sort of zombie feast (far more than, say, The Walking Dead). It’s vast and sprawling and spectacular; it’s the first truly globalized orgy of the undead. The director, Marc Forster, is a filmmaker whose work I’ve never particularly liked (he made the genteel Finding Neverland, the overblown Monster’s Ball, and the Bond dud Quantum of Solace). Here, though, working from the 2006 Max Brooks novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, he shows a new audacity and flair. World War Z is epically scaled, but it’s not a messy, noisy, CGI-bogus, throw-everything-at-the-audience sort of blockbuster. It’s thrillingly controlled, and it builds in impact.

The film opens with music that’s meant to remind you of Tubular Bells, the chilling theme music from The Exorcist, and that’s followed by a collage of actual TV news snippets cleverly edited together to suggest a world already tilting toward the abyss. In Philadelphia, where Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), his wife (Mireille Enos), and their two daughters (Sterling Jerins and Abigail Hargrove) are driving from their suburban home toward the center of town, we’re plunged into the first disquieting evidence of the zombie virus, the warning signs of breakdown: giant traffic jams, a street-corner explosion, cops whizzing by, and, finally, a zombie — or is it just an angry, desperate civilian? — crashing up against the windshield.

When people in World War Z get bitten and turn into rabid undead freaks, the conversion happens frighteningly quickly, without a lot of fuss. They lie on the ground for a moment, then get all twitchy, as if they’re receiving an electroshock treatment, and their eyes bulge up to the heavens in rage. Gerry, a former U.N. investigator, spends most of the film traveling around the world, searching for the origins of the virus (and a possible cure), yet metaphorically speaking, we’re already cued to see what has brought about this onslaught. World War Z is rooted in the current mood of economic panic and terrorist fear and impending chaos. It presents the zombie army as a culmination of what it’s going to look like if and when the bottom falls out of our society.

An early scene set in South Korea, where Gerry looks over the dusty remains of Patient Zero, has a hushed creepiness, but World War Z finds its own unique atmosphere of large-scale disorder after Gerry arrives in Jerusalem, where the Israelis have erected a wall around the city to keep the zombies out. The wall doesn’t work. As the zombies — and there are thousands of them — shimmy up the side of it, in a squirmy hill of bodies that spill over the top of the edifice, the action hits a raw nerve of peril, a feeling that nothing can keep them out.

World War Z lifts some of its vérité-apocalypse mood, as well as the terrifying speed with which the zombies move, from Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later (2003). Yet this is a much more varied and surprising movie, built around a soberly commanding performance by Pitt as the family man who must leave his wife and daughters on a U.N. command ship as he hops from one trouble spot to the next. As Gerry, Pitt is cool, fearless, tense, compassionate, and brutally tough (at one point, he chops off the hand of a soldier to save her from going zombie). He’s feral grace under pressure.

The stakes for survival keep getting raised. A zombie attack aboard an airplane has a nightmarish this is really happening intensity (though it does give the film a semi-preposterous moment, when the plane starts to go down). Then Pitt arrives at a World Health Organization facility, where he must brave sterile white corridors dotted with zombies to get inside a lab vault. The film lets us linger for a bit on what the zombies look like — one’s a gnashing Miles Davis clone, one clicks its teeth in close-up like a demented gopher — and the story’s blend of terror and ingenuity attains an intoxicating, jittery finesse. World War Z turns the prospect of the end of our world into something tumultuous and horrifying and, at the same time, exciting. It’s scary good fun. A-

World Refugee Day: UN tests ground-breaking ‘solar lighting’ refugee camp shelters to keep women safer
————————————————————————————————
The UN Refugee Agency is testing ground-breaking refugee camp shelters with solar lighting – the world’s first – to help improve living conditions and reduce the risk of violence against women and children on camps.
-
By Louisa Peacock- 6:55AM BST 20 Jun 2013
-
To mark World Refugee Day, the UN Refugee Agency is working with a small non-governmental organisation and the IKEA Foundation to test an “innovative” shelter which uses solar lighting to help offer safety and security to women and children living in refugee camps.
-
In Syria over 1.3m refugees have fled the crisis in search of safety, pushing the number of refugees and those displaced by conflict to an 18 year-high of 45.2m, latest figures show. It is the highest figure since 1994, when people fled genocide in Rwanda and bloodshed in the former Yugoslavia.
-
Angelina Jolie, the Agency’s special envoy is currently in Syria to “show support” for refugees and to call on the world to address their plight. She last visited Syrian refugees in December 2012 – after having undergone a double mastectomy, although nobody knew that at the time. Elsewhere, in Mali, intense fighting has affected 173,000 refugees while in Sudan, violence around the country’s borders has driven around 223,000 refugees into South Sudan.

Living standards
—————————
What is often overlooked is the living standards of the tens of thousands of refugees who are forced to live in makeshift camps – some for as many as 12 years. Women and children are vulnerable to gender-based violence on refugee camps, with poor security tents and no lighting worsening the problem.
-
The prototype shelters, which have been over two years in the making, are designed to last several years – far longer than the tents currently used, which typically have a lifespan of only six months. In addition, they each have a renewable energy source, with solar lighting, and better ventilaition and security to help keep women and children safer.
-
Until now, no organisation has funded the testing or developing of better shelters because there has been little commercial drive behind it. The IKEA Foundation, the charitable subsidiary of the flat-pack furniture giant, set up the partnership between the NGO and the UN Refugee Agency in 2010 to address this issue. It has poured around £3m into the project and hopes to see the new shelters available for “mass production” from October this year.
-
The test tents are currently being used by Somali refugees living in UN refugee camps at Dollo Ado in Ethiopia, as well as refugees in Iraq and Lebanon. After receiving feedback from those who are using them, the IKEA Foundation will fund further improvements before they are put onto the market via the ‘open source’ method, where any commerical organisation can come along and buy the design, to sell to the UN Refugee Agency.

‘Commercially viable’
———————————
A spokesman for the IKEA Foundation said the UN Refugee Agency is hoping to place substantial orders for the new shelters, which if they are manufactured on a large scale, would help bring costs down and make them commercially viable. The shelters could end up in refugee camps all over the world.
-
Ms Angelina Jolie said: “The worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century is unfolding in the Middle East today. [And yet] the international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy. Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found.”
-
She urged the world to do much more to help the people of Syria. “The international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy,” she said.

US boosts aid for Syrian refugees by $300 million
———————————————————————
by Hani Hazaimeh | Jun 20, 2013 | 00:30
-
AMMAN — The US government has announced it will provide an additional $300 million in humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees, $45 million of which will be given to Jordan, the US embassy in Amman said Wednesday. In a press statement to the Jordanian media, following US President Barack Obama’s announcement of the assistance at the G-8 summit on Tuesday, the embassy said the money will be used to help feed, shelter and provide medical care for children, women and men affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria.
-
“Our increased funding increases our food assistance to Jordan, providing monthly food assistance to 192,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan by July 2013. The US is also providing shelter support, protection services, education and healthcare. We are helping provide health services in camps, host communities, and transit sites, especially for children under the age of five,” the statement said.
The funding will also support a water network expansion project at the Zaatari camp, so as to improve sanitation and reduce the reliance on water trucking.
-
“The United States remains the single-largest contributor of humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people, and this new contribution brings total US humanitarian assistance for the Syria crisis to nearly $815 million since the crisis began,” according to the statement. It added that the US supports and appreciates the countries hosting the 1.6 million refugees who have fled the brutal conflict in Syria, and commends host-nation efforts to provide protection, assistance and hospitality to all those fleeing violence.
-
“The US recognises the significant strains on host communities and the economic impact of providing refuge to such a large number of people. We call on all host governments to continue to keep their borders open to those still fleeing violence in Syria,” the embassy said. According to the statement, the US is increasing its support for projects that protect vulnerable populations including women, children and the elderly. One of its top priorities is improving the sanitation and hygiene of the refugees’ facilities to prevent the spreading of water-borne illnesses, the embassy said.
-
Despite the difficulties of providing aid to those inside Syria, the statement said, the US is continuing to work through all possible channels to deliver aid to those in need in Syria, including through the UN, international and non-governmental organisations, and local Syrian organisations.
-
According to the statement, over $128 million will be allocated to increasing life-saving health and emergency medical capacity inside Syria; providing additional food aid, including American wheat that will be milled into flour; providing more blankets, hygiene kits, clothing and shelter materials; and supporting women, children and those with special needs.
-
“Additionally, new funding supports efforts to register newly arrived Syrian refugees and provide them with food vouchers and cash assistance. Increased funding will provide food assistance to 165,000 Syrian refugees by July 2013,” the embassy said, adding that the US funding ensures that 400,000 children under the age of five are immunised against measles, water and sanitation services reach 70,000 refugees and host communities, and that more than 100,000 children have a safe educational environment.

Angelina Jolie appeals for more aid to help Syrian refugees
—————————————————————————————
June 20, 2013 ⋅ 12:30 am ⋅
-
Urging the international community to scale up aid to Syrian refugees, Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie, Special Envoy for the United Nations refugee agency, today said that the two-year conflict in Syria had sparked “the worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century.”
-
“The international response to this crisis falls far short of the vast scale of this human tragedy,” declared Ms. Jolie, who travelled to the Jordan-Syria border to sound the alarm about the staggering number of people forced to their flee their homes – estimated by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at some 1.6 million, 540,000 of whom are in Jordan.
-
Along with Jordan, other countries hosting refugees sparked by two years of fighting between the Syrian Government and forces seeking to oust President Bashar Al-Assad include Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. UNHCR estimates that the number of refugees could reach almost 3.5 million by the end of this year.
-
The conflict has also left more than 93,000 people dead and another 6.8 million in need of humanitarian assistance. Earlier this month, UNHCR updated the amount of funds needed for the Syria Regional Response Plan to almost $3 billion for international agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). An additional $830 million is needed for the Governments of Jordan and Lebanon.
-
Making her visit to the region just ahead of World Refugee Day, marked annually on 20 June, Ms. Jolie listened to the stories of men, women and children who had fled Syria just hours before. In a press release, the agency said that the envoy arrived in the country yesterday with UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
-
Mr. Guterres started his visit to the region in Lebanon, where he met with refugees and Government officials. In Jordan, he and Ms. Jolie plan to meet with Government representatives and refugees living in Jordan’s cities, as well as in the sprawling Za’atari refugee camp. “Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found,” Ms. Jolie said, urging the world to do much more to help the people of Syria.

World Refugee Day, 20th June 2013
——————————————————-
By Paul Robinson – 20 Jun 2013
-
World Refugee Day is held every year on 20th June, there are more displaced and forcibly-moved people and their families who need care in a country that is not their own. Internally displaced people also figure in this refugee problem, especially in the case of war.
While previous years have concentrated on protection, the home and families that are torn apart, this year features again the fleeing family. With the addition of a personal fundraising site, this theme involves taking a minute to support such families. Security and safety in your own culture with confidence in other nations and people acting responsibly seems a common UN theme. With refugees, it is pre-eminent.
-
People choose to leave their homes, or are forced out by some disaster to choose exile rather than death and injury. With several recent genocides, we should all be familiar with these situations so there is little excuse for ignoring the troubles of other peoples. To be honest, 43.3 million in 2010 was quite a peak (since the 1990s). 10.4 million found their way to the jurisdiction areas of the UN itself, while Palestinians numbering 4.7 million are still with the UN mandated UNRWA.
-
The “family of nations” that support this international set of actions is legion of course, with some supporting more than others. Other international organisations such as the Red Crescent and Red Cross and some national entities such as Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders are all coordinated by the IASC (the Inter-Agency Standing Committee) with UNHCR the lead agency for refugees. The camps it runs have many other agencies providing material, medical and spiritual help. Food, shelter and hospital facilities are possibly the more important. With a 5-year stay quite unacceptable as a regular period for people to remain there, more movement out from the camps is highly desirable.
-
Antonio Guterres, High Commissioner of the UNHCR has stated, “The problem of protracted refugee situations has reached enormous proportions – more than 30 [such] situations are to be found throughout the world, the vast majority of them in African and Asian countries which are struggling to meet the needs of their own citizens.

World War Z: Record reporter tells of life as an extra and being 15ft from Brad Pitt as the film premieres
——————————————————————————–
20 Jun 2013 08:13
-
TWO years after Brad Pitt’s zombie blockbuster World War Z was shot in Glasgow and Grangemouth, the film last night had its Scottish premiere. THE joke on-set went that if Hollywood wanted to film slack-mouthed shambling mobs in George Square, all they had to do was roll the cameras on a Saturday night. Of course, for World War Z, that wouldn’t have worked. As anyone who’s seen the trailer knows, the zombies are 28 Days Later sprinters rather the traditional Dawn of the Dead shufflers.Just as well then there were better jokes than this cracked on the set. I was lucky enough to be called up for the full two weeks of filming in Glasgow and enjoyed every minute of it – other than the 6am starts.
-
The first day, we started in Cochrane Street. We were given our positions and very complicated instructions.
Walk from points A to B, neutral expressions, don’t look at the cameras or at Brad Pitt himself. Easypeasy, I thought.I’ve never been one for this cult of the celebrity business – why on Earth would I want to stare at some bloke who’s basically just like me, but internationally famous, fabulously wealthy and married to Angelina Jolie?
-
Practically identical. But when he came on set, taking up position not 15ft away, all I could think was: “Oh my God it’s freaking Brad Pitt and he’s right there. I could hug him.”I doubted he would have appreciated that though, so I managed to restrain myself. Just.
That first day was hardly thrilling, as us extras trooped up and down the street in a civilised fashion countless times.
-
Day two lived up to my Hollywood expectations a wee bit more, as gunshots let us drop walking in favour of a terrified run. By day three, movie magic was in full swing, as a garbage truck bulldozed through parked cars. But if you get a good look at the extras’ faces, suspect you’ll see ‘terror’ often comes across as grinning widely.Something about the intrinsic daftness of pretending you are fleeing zombies infected the whole cast with good humour far more virulently than any undead plague, leading to inappropriate smiles and laughter that frantic assistant directors struggled to smother.
-
Strangely, it’s this laughter that I’ll remember more than barging past Brad Pitt and big-budget stunts. There was a real camaraderie between the extras. I made loads of new friends and can’t wait to see the film with them. For two years, I’ve been telling people I wasn’t going to be hunting for myself on screen when I see the movie. Of course, that was a lie, as anyone who saw me feverishly go through the trailer frame by frame looking for my red bonce can testify. And when two colleagues who made it to a press screening said they saw my noggin, I was thrilled. With screen-time with Brad Pitt on the CV, I reckon it’s next stop Hollywood.

Would prefer to party through apocalypse: Brad Pitt
——————————————————————————–
PTI | 20th Jun 2013
-
Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt would prefer to throw a party if the world was about to end rather than trying to save it. The 49-year-old, who is currently busy promoting his apocalyptic movie ‘World War Z’ around the world, has confessed that if he got to face zombies he’d go out in style and have a huge bash rather than try and stop them, reported Contactmusic.
-
“Would I do something heroic? Who knows? I think if I knew this was absolutely it, the final end of Earth, I’d probably just have a big party,” said Pitt.
-
He has co-produced this project as well as stared in it.

900 Maltese extras welcome launch of Brad Pitt’s movie shot in Malta
————————————————————————————————
Brad Pitt wanted to build a better blockbuster. During the years Hollywood shifted toward increasingly bigger spectacles and superhero tentpoles, one of the movies’ biggest stars largely stayed on the sidelines, focusing instead on ambitious ensembles (“The Tree of Life,” ”Inglourious ********”) and unlikely dramas (“Moneyball”). But the zombie apocalypse “World War Z,” which opens tomorrow, is Pitt’s bold, long-gestating, big-budget effort to enter the franchise fray. It’s his attempt to engineer not just a disaster thrill ride like 1974′s “The Towering Inferno” (a beloved film to Pitt, who saw it repeatedly as a kid growing up in Missouri), but to make a thought-provoking action flick filled with geopolitical questions. It’s been a humbling crusade.
-
“These films are much more difficult than I realized,” Pitt said in a recent interview over coffee at a restaurant off Times Square.
Based on the 2006 sci-fi novel “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War” by Max Brooks (son of Mel), the $200 million-plus film has had a rocky path to theaters. It’s gone through a swarm of screenwriters, several key crew changes, a postponed release date and, most notably, a reshot ending.
-
But most moviegoers that make it to the film — far from the flop many predicted — will likely wonder what all the fuss was about. As Pitt’s producing partner Dede Gardner points out, no one ever says: “Honey, let’s go to this movie this Friday. I swear it was on-budget and on-schedule.” The reviews have largely been positive for “World War Z,” a riveting, brisk thriller with a refreshingly — and, for summer movies, atypically — human protagonist who relies purely on his intellect and experience as he shuttles around the world trying to solve the zombie pandemic that’s engulfed most of the planet. Pitt’s former United Nations investigator has no superpowers, no gun, and as Pitt says, “can’t even run that fast.”
-
It may sound paradoxical, but though “World War Z” is awash with gruesome hordes of snarling zombies, it is — alongside Superman and Godzilla-sized sea monsters — one of the most human-scaled blockbusters of the summer. While Hollywood awaits the film’s box office performance with bated breath, Pitt is confident. He’s shaped the film as a producer since his production company, Plan B, acquired the book rights in 2006. “I know it works,” the 49-year-old actor says. “I know everyone involved is going to be happy. It’s just a question of how happy. We’re proud of it. When you get involved with a film like this at this scale, at this cost, there’s more responsibility to meet that number immediately.”
-
Not unlike his character, Pitt has been flying around the world to promote “World War Z.” He spent Father’s Day with his family, but at 40,000 feet, he says. “I’ve got a few countries to go,” he says with a grin. Though he acknowledges the film has been “a learning experience,” he’s upbeat, repeatedly citing the “good fun” of making a big movie for the multiplexes. Adapting the book — a series of first-person dispatches from around the globe — required not just finding a narrative drive to the story, but capturing the novel’s theorizing of how self-interested nations would fare in a global catastrophe. (Faring well, for example, is walled-off Israel, the location of the film’s most extreme set piece, shot in Malta with some 900 extras.)
-
But in the end, the principles of making a popcorn-friendly movie often bested the filmmakers’ higher ambitions. Much of the allegory had to be cut. “It got too dense,” Pitt says. “We got too weighed down on it. We spent a couple years on it. We couldn’t get it into one movie. We had to walk a line between using the film as a Trojan horse for some of that, but these things have to be fun. And we were bored, ourselves.” Instead, the filmmakers, including director Marc Forster (“Quantum of Solace,” ”Stranger Than Fiction”), wrestled with finding what Pitt calls “the pace of the summer action film, the cadence it needs.”
-
“Movies have a DNA,” says Gardner. “They have their own identity. This one just fought back. It fought back, ultimately, in a way that I really appreciate because it sort of met our ambitions for it with its own ambitions.”
The most painful part of taming “World War Z” was deciding that the third act — a large-scale battle with the zombies in Moscow’s Red Square, filmed in Budapest — didn’t work. It was a gut-wrenching realization, made after the filmmakers and Paramount executives screened the film. “It was abysmal,” says Pitt. “It was really painful. What it means is that after you’ve put in that much work, you go, ‘Oh, we’re so far away.’ It just means we got a lot more to go. You go home, you have one too many beers and you get up the next day and you go, ‘OK. This is what we got to do.’”
-
While tinkering with a movie in post-production is normal, hiring screenwriters (Damon Lindelof, Drew Goddard) to write an entirely new ending is quite uncommon. Instead, a more quietly tense sequence set in Wales was constructed, with production resuming for a $20 million reshoot. “We just decided it wasn’t good enough,” says Gardner. “I see that as a good thing. We were very fortunate to have partners at Paramount who were interested in doubling down. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that.”
-
The need for such a reshoot, though, contributed heavily to early perceptions of the film. While Pitt admits the production was initially difficult, he says once solutions were found, the process was “really fun.” (Forster was not made available for this article.) Gardner, too, chafes at what she calls the unfair over-scrutinizing of the film. “You often hear of the artists in a studio not getting along,” says Pitt. “This was absolutely a really nice experience. (Paramount) has been so supportive and came to the table with great creative ideas.”
Whether “World War Z” will spawn sequels, as was the initial hope, will have to wait for the box-office response. In a packed summer schedule, the film will have to compete with “Man of Steel” in its second week of release.
-
After a long battle with “World War Z,” Pitt (who’ll this fall star in David Ayer’s World War II thriller “Fury”) says he’s just “not really the franchise kind of guy.” “We spent so much time on this,” he says. “We’ve got so many good story lines stemming from the book or inspired by the book and then just generated from our own powwows. It might still be fun. We’ve got enough material, that’s for sure. We’ll see, we’ll see how this works, we’ll see how everyone feels afterward.”

why Angie is envy by women @ 06/20/2013 at 6:39 am

If you want to understand a little bit more why DirtyX type of women Envy (hate) Angie type of women, you must read the blog publish in DM. Great.

—————-

There’s nothing women hate more than other women succeeding: That’s why they keep stabbing me in the back, says Katie Hopkins
By KATIE HOPKINS

…… As the novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford pointed out this week, nothing offends most women more than the success of another woman. Taylor Bradford was speaking as a hugely successful author, now in her 80th year, with a personal fortune of £200 million.

True, my success pales in comparison to hers, but I’ve experienced the envy of other women for my entire working life.
I believe this is an issue that sets the sexes apart: women couldn’t care less about how well their male colleagues do. Nor do we see men behaving in this way: their envy is usually quickly vented and forgotten.

But if another woman does well, it becomes a rival female’s mission to try to bring her down.

Maybe it was written into our DNA when the human species was evolving and women were left behind while the men went out hunter-gathering.

Women had a primeval need to stick together and follow strict codes of behaviour – those who struck out alone imperilled the group.

These days women have the same opportunities as men to make something of themselves, but woe betide them if they do. Such behaviour is regarded as a threat to the balance of the ‘sisterhood’.

Women see everything as an emotional battleground. We are brought up to crave attention and compete for it. So when one woman gets a promotion, the others feel compelled to bring her down to their level.

They gang up on her. Rather than accept she’s done well because she’s worked harder, they dream up reasons to belittle her. It makes my blood boil when I’m told I’ve only got a job because I’m younger or skinnier than my competitors. But it happens all the time. ……

My painting is on hold, handyman/painter is sick, painted the closets, took Rose advice and donated to the Goodwill, now I can find things easier.
When my nephew walked in last week, if you had seen the look on his face, it was priceless, he thought I was burglarized. I did not tell him I was getting a paint job, thought it would be finished when they got here.
Monster’s parents are trying to get the floors refinished and painting done before they move, their lease ends July 31.

@Susan: Hi Susan, how are you lady? I’m in and out, but BRANGELINA forem has pictures of Brad, ZZ and Shi in Russia.

Save the Children release images of Syria’s children on ‘death journeys’ trying to escape civil war
————————————————————————————————
The charity have teamed up with photographer Moises Samen to capture children and their families crossing boarders into neighbouring countries ahead of Thursday’s World Refugee DayHeather Saul -Thursday 20 June 2013
-
Pictures released by Save the Children have documented the harrowing reality for Syrian refugee children and their families trying to escape violence and war as the country’s crisis escalates. The charity released the images as part of today’s World Refugee Day, depicting the 1.6 million Syrian refugees who have fled civil war and crossed borders into Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt.
-
The photographs captured by award winning photographer Moises Saman join descriptions of children dying at roadsides from dehydration and injuries whilst trying to flee conflict zones. The UN Refugee agency (UNHCR) also released their annual Global Trends report on Wednesday, highlighting that the Syrian crisis has increased the number of refugees to over 45 million, the highest number reported since 1994. This figure has increased sharply from the 42.5 million since the end of 2011.
-
Justin Forsyth, Chief Executive of Save the Children said: “The horrific stories we’ve gathered from refugees over the past few days show how children are bearing the brunt of the Syrian conflict.“Children in Syria are being killed, tortured, recruited as soldiers and abused in horrifying numbers. Children are being separated from their parents, and some are dying alone at the roadside from their wounds.“Ultimately, the only solution to this crisis is an end to the violence, but in the meantime, we urgently need to reach those trapped inside Syria. Unless we can, I am afraid we will hear more horrifying stories of children forced into ever more desperate circumstances.”
-
World Refugee Day, currently in its 13th year, will be observed across 100 countries around the world. Each year on 20 June the United Nations Refugee Agency and various other civic groups around the world celebrate the event to raise awareness of the millions of people displaced internally and globally, who have been forced to flee their home because of conflict or persecution.
-
United Nations ambassador Special Envoy Miss Angelina Jolie has already flown out to the Middle East to call on Major General Hussein Al-Zyoud for more humanitarian aid ahead of World Refugee Day. The actress has also released a “public service announcement” video asking for world wide support on the events website.

Super woman: Angelina Jolie dives back into her humanitarian work and visits Syrian refugees after completing double mastectomy operations
———————————————————————————————–By Jade Watkins, 20 June 2013
-
She revealed last month that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy following the discovery that she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer.
And Angelina Jolie has now dived back into her humanitarian work since completing the operations in April and making her big announcement in May.
The 38-year-old was pictured listening to Syrian refugees in a Jordanian military camp based on the Jordan-Syria border on Tuesday. Dressed all in black, the actress was seen crouching down and talking to a mother and several children as she scribbled dutifully on a notepad. She was also seen comforting some young boys as she was surrounded by several of the refugees at the camp.
-
Angelina began three months of treatments prior to undergoing a preventative double mastectomy, back in February, and continued her humanitarian work through them. At the beginning of February she started with a ‘nipple delay, which rules out disease in the breast ducts behind the nipple and draws extra blood flow to the area’. Then just two weeks later she underwent the major surgery – an eight hour operation which sees the breast tissue removed before temporary fillers are put in place.
-
Then just over a month later Angelina was back to work with her humanitarian efforts, pictured in the Republic of Congo with British politician William Hague following her initial operation on March 26th. On April 4th she then attended the Women in the World Summit in New York looking in good spirits, and on April 11th attended the G8 Summit in London, again with Hague.
-
After those engagements, Angelina had her final operation, her breasts reconstructed with implants on April 20.Then on April 27th, the mother-of-six completed the medical process and was told that the surgery was a success and her chances of contracting breast cancer have now been reduced from 87% to less than 5%.While she supported her partner Brad Pitt on the red carpet in Berlin for the premiere of his new movie World War Z earlier this month, this is the first time Angelina was been seen engaging in her humanitarian work since completing the operations. Earlier this week, Brad told GMA that it was ‘business as usual’ for his partner following her treatment.
-
Pitt said:’Her focus now is that all people have access to the testing. If you do your research it doesn’t have to be scary, it can be an empowering thing.’
Angelina revealed her decision to have the double mastectomy in a New York Times article last month where she wrote that she had taken the difficult decision so she could tell her children ‘they don’t need to fear they will lose me’.
Brad spoke about his fiancée’s decision to have the invasive treatment as he carried out promotional duties for new movie World War Z in New York this week.He said: ‘It’s business as usual, she’s doing great. When she wrote that piece, we had already come out the other end. ‘It was a beautiful thing to watch and her focus now is that all people have access to the testing.’If you do your research, it doesn’t have to be scary, it is an empowering thing… I’ve been moved by every stage of this.’
-
Angelina’s mother Marcheline Bertrand died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 in 2007 and her maternal grandmother also had the disease.
Angelina said she carries a defective BRCA-1 gene that puts her at high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers.
Her doctor said that the test that turned up the faulty gene link led her to have both of her healthy breasts removed to try to avoid the same fate.
Writing in an editorial piece entitled ‘My Medical Choice’ in the New York Times, Angelina explained her decision, revealing that she had the initial procedure on February 16 before having the reconstruction operation on April 20

On World Refugee Day, Syria Is Calling
———————————————————–
Posted: 20/06/2013 00:12
-
The Syrian crisis is different from all other humanitarian crises that I have known. In my 11 years as a fundraiser with CARE International, I have been involved in humanitarian emergency responses of large magnitude, including the Tsunami, the Pakistan floods, the Haiti earthquake, and the Horn of Africa food crisis. I have seen people suffering and their lives shattered but as a Syrian-American woman, this crisis is personal to me; it has made me much more aware of my Syrian roots.
-
Both my paternal grandparents were born in Damascus and the majority of our extended family is still living in Syria. This crisis is affecting family members both in Syria and in Jordan directly. My relatives who are still back in Syria and those who have escaped the conflict and fled to Jordan have made this crisis real by bringing to my life the extent of pain and upheaval that they have been feeling. Several of my relatives lost their lives. Homes and businesses of relatives were destroyed. These are some examples of how one family−my family−is being affected.
-
In Jordan, through my work with CARE, I have visited the Zaatari refugee camp and met with countless Syrian refugee families living in Amman. I have seen the impact this crisis has been having on the Syrian women, men, mothers and children. As a mother, I can easily relate to a refugee mom who constantly worries how she will keep a roof over her family’s head, how/when her children would go to school or how many meals she could secure for her kids. The list goes on. There are good people and organisations on the ground like CARE doing their best to respond to this crisis. But it has just not been enough, and there is so much more that needs to be done, especially with no end in sight to this tragedy.
-
On the 7 June the UN launched a $4.4billion humanitarian appeal − the largest aid request in the organisation’s history − in order to be able to assist the growing number of people suffering the effects of the crisis in Syria. The UN estimates that 6.8million people need urgent help inside of Syria whilst more than 1.6million Syrians − the latter is twice the population of San Francisco where I used to live and work − need urgent help in the neighbouring
countries where they have been taking refuge and continue arriving. I feel the responsibility and the commitment to do my part and fundraise for this crisis of unprecedented scale.
-
Unlike with other crises, the political aspect of this emergency has overshadowed the humanitarian aspect, and raising funds and having the focus on the continuous and increasing humanitarian needs of both people within Syria and Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries have been challenging. Also, due to the multitude of forces with different allegiances in Syria, raising funds is complex. In my role, I am constantly working on finding ways to help people affected by this huge crisis and assure donors that their funding reaches those who have been most affected, and is allocated to respond to the humanitarian needs created by the conflict.
-
The 20 June marks World Refugee Day, a day established by the UN to recognise and honor the strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes to escape persecution, conflict, natural disasters and violence. An increasing number of the world’s refugees today are from Syria, with the number of Syrian refugees continuing sadly to grow fast and steadily. On this important day, I urge that we don’t forget the plight of the Syrian people who have already suffered so much, and help those most in need: over 1.6million Syrian refugees as well as nearly seven million Syrians who are not refugees but are in urgent need of help inside Syria. This crisis is a clear case where aid will bring solace to uprooted refugee families forced to live in increasingly difficult conditions, and will alleviate the suffering of countless families.
-
CARE is working to help refugees meet their most urgent needs and protect their dignity. While our efforts to help Syrian refugees and host communities began in Jordan−where we have reached more than 110,000 refugees−we are also on the ground in Egypt and Lebanon, working with a range of partners to help refugees and host communities. World War Z’ feels intensely real
————————————————-

By Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency -Thursday, June 20, 2013 2:05:37
-
Nobody — and I mean NOBODY! — can or will get their zzzzz’s sitting through World War Z. It is not just the chaotic war that breaks out between living humans and the disease-demented zombies.
-
It is not just the explosive sound level of Marc Forster’s action movie.
-
It is not just the brain-bustin’ visual stew that Forster serves up.
-
In addition to all that and more, there is the intense realism. World War Z looks and sounds and plays as if this is actually happening. As crazy as any zombie movie may seem, this one never comes across as an outlandish Hollywood fantasy.
-
For that, thank Brad Pitt for carrying the humanity of the story from beginning to end in what ranks as one of his most refined and controlled performances. For that, thank novelist Max Brooks and four screenwriters who wrestled the literate World War Z into a viable big-screen production that gave Pitt a complex and appealing protagonist to play.

Harpenden charity funding research into
—————————————————————-

A NEW medical research project which has positive implications for people carrying a breast cancer gene – recently highlighted by actress Angelina Jolie – is being funded by a small national charity based in Harpenden. The Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) Society has launched the project as there are currently no treatments for A-T and because the condition is so rare, drug companies do not usually invest in research.
-
A-T is a devastating disease of children and young adults which progressively affects their co-ordination and ability to carry out everyday activities. It also brings a very high risk of developing life-threatening illnesses including cancers, especially leukaemia, lymphoma and lung disease.
About one in every 200 people carries the defective A-T gene and is at risk of having a child with the disease. And women who carry the gene are up to eight times more likely to develop breast cancer than other women.
-
The society, based at Rothamsted Research Centre, is, with charity the Thomas Appeal, jointly funding the project which began on June 1 at the Steve Jackson Laboratory in Cambridge. The research uses cutting-edge cell biology and DNA sequencing technology to identify new approaches for treating Ataxia-Telangiectasia and slowing its progression.A spokeswoman for the society said: “The fact that this project potentially offers hope for women with hereditary risk of breast cancer as well as people with A-T makes it extremely significant.”
-
A-T occurs when a child inherits a defective version of the ataxia telangiectastia mutated (ATM) gene from both parents. This gene gives instructions for making a protein located primarily in the nucleus of cells where it helps control the rate at which cells grow and divide. This protein has a number of roles including repairing damaged DNA.The ATM gene is related to the BRCA1 gene, which when defective also increases the risk of breast cancer in women.
-
The spokeswoman explained: “The BRCA1 gene has been in the news recently following Angelina Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy to reduce the risk of cancer caused by her carrying a defective version of the gene. “The fact that any woman, and especially an actress of the stature of Angelina Jolie, needs to have such radical surgery shows the absolute urgency of research like this.”

Somerhalder, Jolie and More Speak Out on World Refugee Day
——————————————————————————————–

by Ali Berman June 20, 2013

If you had to flee your home, friends, family and country, what would you take with you? That’s the question about 25 celebrities are answering to raise awareness for June 20th, World Refugee Day.
-
Stars like David Tennant, Ian Somerhalder, Neil Gaiman and Paula Abdul all shared what (or who) they would take with them if forced to leave their home.Somerhalder and Abdul both agree that their canine and feline friends would be their choice. The Vampire Diaries star writes, “If I was a refugee and I could only take one thing I would take my cats and I would wrap them very tightly and I would stick a lighter and a cell phone in between them so that I could find things, call people and make fire so that I could eat.”
-
Abdul says, “My dogs will always be beloved members of my family. Patient teachers, spirit-lifters, enthusiastic ego boosters, gentle ego-BUSTERS, well-timed comedians, intent listeners, fearless protectors, & trustworthy best friends. If there’s an ‘owner’ or a ‘master’ in this relationship it’s NOT me! I could never knowingly leave them in danger. Never.”

Tennant and Gaiman both agree that a photograph of family would be at the top of their list. Gaiman writes, “If I had to suddenly flee I would take a photo of my children. They are the most important thing I’ve brought to the world, there is nothing more important than my children. They won.”
-
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the campaign hopes to show the public how devastating war can be on families. In some instances people might only have one minute to escape from danger. You can see images of what each star would take on the campaign’s pinterest board.

In addition to this photo series, UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie actually traveled to meet with Syrian refugees in Jordan to raise awareness for 2013 World Refugee Day. In hopes that others would join in and show support for refugees, Jolie said, “The international response to this crisis falls short of the vast scale of this human tragedy. Much more humanitarian aid is needed, and above all, a political settlement to this conflict must be found.”

The Chinese people must hate youtube, just as much as they don’t like Brad Pitt, which is why WWZ hasn’t been accepted for the theatres here!!
-
*********************
-
I heard Chinese people are not familiar with Zombi movies. Is this true?
Neither Hong Kong people, But opening day of WWZ pulled insane number. Someone suggested it’s because Brad is in it.
-
Mr&Mrs Smith and TCCOBB were both big hit in China.
So I guess some violent scene by Zombi may be the reason their sensor rejected a cut of the movie.
-
Also in South Korea, pre-ticketsale for WWZ is very well.
-
-
BTC tracking update
now it reached to $60 mil for WWZ and $85mil for the Pixer movie

So the girls are in Moscow with their dad this time. Special time with daddy. Zahara and Shiloh seem very close, they’re inseparable sisters.

Good morning phool, Rose and everyone.

beautiful like her mom @ 06/20/2013 at 9:17 am

Shii and Zee are enjoying the study-trip to the cultural city of Moscow with Dad Pitt.

It´s not the first time that we see Shii carrying a book. I think she is a left hand writer like her mom and maybe she like to draw and it is the one that Brad think it could be a Architect. Well, Shii will be a successful girl in any field that she choose in the future for sure, she come from Angie…and Brad. So…

But Shii have something that make me smile every time i see a picture of her, her simple and comfort tom-boy stile, her funny attitude and her evident curiosity and imaginative mind make me think she will be a bad-ass like her mom and dad. She looks more Angie for me, she looks the twin of Angie and when she grow up it will be fun to watch this girl.

Hi Sunny, actually I haven’t asked my relatives about zombies per se. They are in their 50′s and above so I think they’d look at me in askance if I were to inquire.
.
The concept of ghosts is very familiar with the Chinese. For eg, It’s commonly believed that the spirit of the deceased returns back to his home on the 3rd day after his death and there are funeral rituals to manage that. Further the 7 lunar month is the month of the hungry ghosts – those ghosts who didn’t get fed during the festival of clear bright (Qing Ming).
.
It is a short step to believe in zombies – bodies of the dead returning to an undead state and running around. I don’t think the Chinese will have any trouble relating to that concept!
.
Honestly, there is not necessarily any rhyme or reason why the Chinese government might reject the showing of a movie in China. There isn’t much of the rule of law here. Perhaps someone didn’t pay enough of a bribe to the right person – and I ain’t be facetious! Perhaps they just want to flex their muscles and make someone in Paramount sweat!
.
Ultimately of course, the movie will be seen in China – pirated of course!
.
BTW, What did you mean – opening day for WWZ pulled in insane numbers? Do you mean in North America or in HK or globally?

Yes, the idiot tampax lies about everything! If he’s a fan of ticky, then why doesn’t he just stay at fat fvckers first? Lol… Seems like someone is obsessed with the Jolie Pitts. Also, nobody wants to steal his moniker… We have better things to do with our time.

Seems like Zee and Shi are spending time with daddy. They look so cute! Daddy is having a blast I’m sure!

Someone from Hong Kong said WWZ opened huge on 20th.
Also in Portgese, it opened huge on the same day.

I’m seeing around $ 50 mil for the opening day in US.
At the end of August, global box office can be $500-600 mil.
But more to come because this kind of movie will do well outside theater.

Chinese has their own zombi 殭屍( jiāng shī) and I think that’s the reason why Chinese people not into HW Zombie movies.

(Apologies for posting this as didn’t want to start the ME debate but this piece from a Cancer Sufferers Husband’s account is so beautiful & poignant to read A Husbands account from heart and also Him calling out on the Double Standards of a women like Melissa Etheridge)

-
——————————————————————————————————————
My wife’s choice, like Angelina Jolie’s, is rooted in bravery and courage, not fear
—————————————————————————————————————–
By Erick Erickson-Published June 20, 2013
-
Singer Melissa Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor, recently gave an interview to the Washington Blade. In it, she said actress Angelina Jolie was “fearful,” not “brave,” for having a prophylactic, or preventive, double mastectomy. Etheridge told the Washington Blade that Jolie “made the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer.” She went on to say that she believed cancer “came from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body.” Thereafter, she suggested there had been advances in nutrition and stress levels such that Angelina Jolie’s mastectomy was “way down the line on the spectrum of what you can do.” Jolie and Etheridge both have the BRCA gene, which means they have a very high likelihood of getting breast cancer.
-
Etheridge has had breast cancer. Jolie has not, but has a family history of cancer in addition to the BRCA gene. “I am offended for . . . all the women who bravely subject themselves to the removal of their breasts because of what might happen.”
-
My wife is another story. My wife tested negative for the BRCA gene. In fact, in several genetic tests my wife showed no genetic indication of cancer. But her mother, mother’s sister, grandmother, and other relatives all had breast cancer. Both her mother and aunt died. Her aunt underwent a prophylactic mastectomy, but later developed lung cancer, which the doctors believed had spread from her breasts. My wife’s mother had very aggressive breast cancer that was detected early, but still proved fatal. Only her grandmother survived a fight with breast cancer. Facing a family history, but negative genetic tests, my wife and I battled insurance until they agreed she could have a double mastectomy. Three months after our marriage, my wife had the surgery. I did not realize what women facing that surgery go through. Not just the interior tissue is removed, but the exterior tissue is too. Tattoos are typically then used to recreate the exterior appearance with implants to replace the interior tissue.
-
My wife’s reconstruction could not follow immediately after the surgery. Too much internal damage had been done and she needed to heal. For several days after she came home I would physically have to lift her from the bed in the mornings. She had no upper body strength. Each week I would leave my law practice early and make the 90-minute drive to her doctor’s office. They would stick her with a needle, slowly injecting saline into empty “expanders” left where the breast tissue had been. Some weeks the pain would cause her to throw up. Every week I’d drive her home, put her in bed, and let her recover. During a span of six months, her chest area slowly expanded and stretched for reconstructive surgery. Unfortunately, my wife’s reconstruction did not go as planned. It took multiple reconstructions, with another after our first child was born five years later.
-
The experience was exhausting for me and grueling for her. Knowing what she went through and what Angelina Jolie went through, I am offended for them both and all the other women who bravely subject themselves to the removal of their breasts because of what might happen.
-
Contrary to Melissa Etheridge, there is no science that shows reducing stress or changing a diet may prevent breast cancer. The only guaranteed way for many women is to have a prophylactic double mastectomy and then wonder for years after “what if” — what if they went through all of that and did not have to, what if some cure came along causing it to be unnecessary, what if their children would look at them differently, what if their husbands would too, what if . . . the list goes on.
-
There is a level of bravery and courage subjecting yourself to a torturous process to avoid what many may consider only a chance of cancer. But having seen loved ones wither and die having not made that choice, for many women it is a far wiser course of action. It takes great bravery to undergo surgery in the shadow of an unknown future.
-
My wife is my hero. She is the bravest, most courageous person I know. She is also a great fan of Angelina Jolie’s. On the day Angelina Jolie announced her own mastectomy, I took a copy of the article to my wife, laid it in front of her, and told her now she had more than tattoos in common with Angelina Jolie. Like Angelina Jolie now, through her platform as a highly regarded celebrity, my very private wife for years since her surgery has had a ministry of her own, letting other women ask all the questions to her she never had anyone to ask about this issue.
-
I feel sorry for Melissa Etheridge, who not only seems to have fallen for pseudo-science in the prevention of cancer, but does not recognize the courage and bravery of women who make life and body altering decisions to ensure they have long lives free of the cancer that robbed them of their own mothers, sisters and friends. Fear played no role in my wife’s decision or in Angelina Jolie’s decision. Genetics, family history, and probability helped them make their choice.
-
It would be a shame if Melissa Etheridge’s comments caused other women, now having the doubts my wife had before her surgery, to second-guess a decision that could save their lives.

Just saw this on E! Online. Don’t know if this was posted or not

Thyroid cancer survivor Brooke Burke-Charvet thinks Melissa Etheridge crossed the line when she publicly criticized Angelina Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy as more “fearful” than “brave.” “I feel like to comment on somebody else’s decision and their motivation and to criticize it in any way feels really inappropriate for me,” says the Dancing With the Stars host, who underwent a thyroidectomy after being diagnosed with cancer last year. “And I bite my tongue because Angelina is not a personal friend and I can’t speak about her experience, but doing something electively to avoid greats odds that you can have a fatal disease, not only is it brave, but I think it’s pretty intelligent.” Burke-Charvet said doctors gave her the option of removing just half of her thyroid. “Different medical experts have different opinions,” she said. “For me, as a mother of four and a wife, I went and got [a thyroidectomy]. I’m fighting to stay alive for my family—at all costs.” In some lighter news, Burke-Charvet is in San Francisco today to help announce that Smartfood and Self magazine have named the city the smartest city in America. “They’re also kicking off their search for the smartest person who they’re going to give $10,000 to,” Burke-Carvet said. And speaking of smart, Burke-Charvet thinks the producers of DWTS are doing the right thing by eliminating the weekly results show next season. “I don’t know how they’re going to do it, but I think it’s going to be an action-packed exciting night of television,” she said. “I do believe that. I think change is a good thing.”

Great post,Phool. Thanks!

I think one of the reason that WWZ was not immediately release in China, was that the Chinese goverment had the policy of protecting its own movie industry especially on the lucrative summer season.

MOS will be release this friday in China, and currently MOS director and Henry Cavill were in Shanghai promoting MOS.

I hope WWZ could eventually release in China like several HW films which was shown months after the opening in NA. and still make a lot of money like Fast and Furious , and several Bond’s movie despite rampant pirating, The younger generation prefer watching movie in theater with good quality and comfort.

Thanks for the pix. I think Shi’s book is probably an art book. I noticed when they were in Berlin leaving the Kushi restaurant she was carrying a notebook with a big drawing on the back. And Brad said he likes to spend time drawing with his daughters, so I think Shiloh has an interest in art.
.
Also, I think t here’s now little doubt of who the doodler in Brad and Angie’s bathroom and bedroom was – or the egger on. I thought at the time that it was probably Shiloh with Z egging her on. You can just look at the two of them and see they’re always in cahoots about something. I hope Brad and Angie are retired when those 2 hit their teens…cause they’ll lead them on a merry dance…Vivienne, too, for that matter.

If not he should have kept quite for his children’s sake. Ahh all in the name of TLR damn funny thing is his Co –star is guessing about his marital Sex life and he’s bemoaning his past. yep Brad and Angie better get some rest. I remember Angie said she was writing when Shiloh was in Art Class. so yeah it seems the girl has an interest. So nice. I wish every child could have their interest fostered that way. There are so many young children that just have a natural talent for art and music even athletics. Actor says he is ‘gutted by this loss’

Variety Staff

FILM 04:45 AM
Sicily’s Taormina to Pay Tribute to Gandolfini

Brad Pitt has expressed his sense of loss following the death of James Gandolfini, and his admiration for the late actor’s work.

“I admire Jimmy as a ferocious actor, a gentle soul and a genuinely funny man,” Pitt said in a statement.

“I am fortunate to have sat across the table from him and am gutted by this loss. I wish his family strength and some semblance of peace.”

http://variety.com/2013/film/news/brad-pitt-gandolfini-was-a-ferocious-actor-1200500034/

poor trolls WWZ will be just fine lol some of the losers who badmouthed the movie are now playing nice

Studio executive are predicting an opening of $35 million to $45 million; forecasters say it’s more likely to land with $55 million. If word of mouth keeps new audiences coming, the film could end up with a domestic total approaching $150 million. That, and a strong international total, could put Paramount and its partners at respectability, if not profitability.

Something else I found. Take with a grain of salt lol

Angelina Jolie managed to find the perfect Father’s Day gift for family patriarch Brad Pitt.
The Oscar-winning actress and her kids surprised Brad with a $30,000 platinum vintage Tiffany watch! “Angelina wanted to ensure Father’s Day was extra-special for Brad,” a source tells the new issue of In Touch. “The kids were excited to pick something for their dad.”

The gift had special meaning for Angie, who underwent a preventive double mastectomy earlier this year. “She said Brad has been so supportive over the last few months,” reveals the source. “The watch was a way to say thank you.”

Brad Pitt On James Gandolfini, His Co-Star In ‘The Mexican’ And ‘Killing Them Softly’
—————————————————————————-
By MIKE FLEMING JR | Thursday June 20, 2013 @ 8:30am
-
Brad Pitt, opening this weekend in World War Z, has issued a statement on the passing of James Gandolini at age 51. They starred together, along with Julia Roberts in the Gore Verbinski-directed The Mexican, a movie that came along just as Gandolfini was watching his star rise because of The Sopranos. More recently they starred in Killing Them Softly, and they also appeared in the Tony Scott-directed True Romance, in which Pitt played a small but memorable role as a stoner.

@Phool.:

I need to get back to work…lol

but yes I saw that he went to the same place. and yeah it was thumbing his nose at everyone. I don’t understand that. But I hope she leaves because she has had enough. Not because of public opinion. Mainly because when you do it because of other people or public opinion then you are still in the cycle. You either go back or find another man that will do the same. Same with Rihanna and Chris. I think if a relationship like that ends because you want it to then it is a step. If it ends because of the outside influences then you are not being true to yourself. That whole thing is sad because so many women and men (yes) are living that way and you don’t know until you know; and unfortunately it is sometimes too late when the outside world finds out.

Well at this point it’s a crapshoot. Tracking
has been encouraging as well as social media.
Will just have to wait and see Fri night.

You gave a good example of Rihanna & Chris Brown God where do I begin on those two what is this their 100th breakup and Reunion not until she servers ties completely it will carry on regardless he has seemed to be the one who initially Had moved on but unfortunately if she is going to make herself available to him time & time again who can blame him for going back for afters. Like I said earlier on these Trolls wish all bad things upon Brad & Angie & their children that’s how sick they are but the reality is the Jolie Pitts are loved around the world, every single person speaks so highly of them and their deeds may they go from strength to strength in their future endeavours.

-

Any way how are you ? are you ready for tomorrow? cant wait to see the new photos at Moscow & Rio is comming soon as well .

thanks for the erickson art.,phool.backlash for that Melissa Fxckyridge.

@Phool.: They’re going to get bids from contractors for the work, changing the windows to energy efficient ones and other repairs.
My handyman is usually reliable, I have a ton of work for him, when he gets better.
My nephew and his wife wanted to do the painting, but I just wanted them to enjoy the visit, because they’re going to roughing it (camping) for the next six weeks.

ME’s face is as nasty as her soul appear to be. Another Hen who got left behind in the ‘deadend’ life………Angie marked the maturity of Mr. Pitt and the dregs of his former life are still whining and looking for revenge….guess Brad can see what ‘level’ of friends they actually were.

Stop judging Angelina Jolie
—————————————–

By Noreen Fraser

Staring Down CancerPublished June 20, 2013 FoxNews.com

-

You know what I hate almost more than cancer? People who judge others for personal choices that they have made. I think it’s time to stop judging Angelina Jolie.

-

Jolie made a decision for herself and her family. What is even cooler is that she shared her story for only one reason: to create awareness in others by talking about the BRCA genes. She came out of her celebrity to help others. Do you think that was difficult? Yes! She is probably the most judged celebrity in the world. To share her decision, knowing she would be judged is pretty darn amazing.

-

So, stop criticizing. There is so much more you could do with your time. Get over yourself and spend more time helping others instead of judging them.

-

We all just celebrated Father’s Day and I want to give a shout out to my dad. At 85, he is still teaching business law. This guy raised nine beautiful children, put them all through college and at least half of them have a master’s degree or Ph.D. He did this on a teacher’s salary, which meant he had to have two jobs to make it work. Thank God my dad is still here with us.

-

He regularly goes downtown to light a candle for me. He knows exactly how long the big ones burn so he can get back down there to light another. He says a rosary for me every night and flies from Cleveland to Los Angeles several times a year, just to see me and boost my confidence and my resolve not to give in to cancer.

-

Dad, you’re the best there is….you broke the mold! I got so lucky that day I was born. I was born into capable and loving hands (that’s you, too, Mom). I love you, Dad.

Angelina Jolie urges world to make Syria diplomacy work: ‘You must find common ground’
—————————————————————————————————–

By: Jamal Halaby The Associated Press, Published on Thu Jun 20 2013

ZAATARI, JORDAN—Angelina Jolie said Thursday the Syrian civil war is the world’s most acute humanitarian crisis and called on world leaders to make diplomatic efforts to end it succeed.

Jolie spoke at Jordan’s largest camp for Syrian refugees, which she toured as special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency.

“I appeal to the world leaders — please, set aside your differences, unite to end the violence, and make diplomacy succeed,” she told reporters, drawing attention to the UN’s World Refugee Day.

Jolie is returning to her humanitarian work after announcing last month that she had her breasts removed after discovering she has an inherited genetic mutation that puts her at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

Her visit to Zaatari camp was her first visit public appearance with the United Nations refugee agency since the double mastectomy.

The actress said that by the end of this year, “half of Syria’s population — 10 million people — will be in desperate need of food, shelter and assistance.”

“The lives of millions of people are in your hands,” said Jolie, who wore a black T-shirt and pants under the scorching desert sun, as billows of dust were kicked up by the wind. “You must find common ground.”

In her news conference under a tent in Zaatari camp, she said that refugees are “often forgotten and frequently misunderstood.”

“They are regarded as a burden, as helpless individuals, or as people who wish to move to someone else’s country,” she said.

“That is not who they are,” she added somberly. Rather, refugees are people to invest in, “who will one day rebuild their countries, and a more peaceful world for us all.”

Jordan hosts more than half a million displaced Syrians, including 185,000 in Zaatari, which has become Jordan’s fourth largest populated city.

Inaugurated last July, Zaatari is the world’s second largest refugee camp, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The largest according to the UNHCR is Dadaab camp in Kenya, which houses 463,000 Somali refugees.

Jolie visited Zaatari along with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres and Norwegian Foreign Affairs Minister Espen Barth Eide.

The M. Etheridge debate has been going on since she made that comment. Fans debate everything else, so it’s no surprise that they would want to talk about ME.

Thanks for sharing this article it was very moving. This is the part of the surgery that people don’t hear about so they think it’s like having a boob job. It’s not like having a boob job when you see what this wonderful man described as his wife’s surgical journey. Yes, it is brave. It’s not an easy decision and the surgery certainly is not easy.

Angelina is now starting to state her political views, I just think its Great!

I’m getting all the h.ell confused with this conversation of Hong Kong vs. China. Isn’t Hong Kong part of China and China has had full control since 1997. If the movie is allowed to be seen in Hong Kong doesn’t it follow that it will be seen in mainland China? Am I missing something?

I’m so rude lol. Hi Fans! a little late I know

Sorry for the late returning of shout outs to Phool, Rose and Anustin. I’m never going to get through all of these post even if I don’t real troll posts.

For those who don’t know it FF is also a website with articles about fashion/celebs, and other fluff things in life. It is not just their many forums – the one about Brad and Angie being the most perverse and trafficked.
.
The actual FF website, which I don’t particularly want to defend, is a female fashion/lifestyle site and has never been snarky about Angie or Brad. In fact, they have recent articles talking about how glowing Angie is and that she looks sensational and other flattering descriptions. They just post normal stories like about her work on World Refugee Day and some gossip like Brad buys her $4k worth of lingerie for her birthday.
.
The fact that they tolerate the Brad/Angie section of their forums is I think intolerable and quite frankly due to the fact that it has generated over a million and a half posts and 84,000 topics, which dwarfs any other forum sections they have. That traffic allows them to post numbers that look good for commercial purposes when in reality they bear little or no relationship to the real readers of the actual website or potential customers for their ads. Of course the traffic is mostly by the same core group of bitter betties that visit it a million times a day. Unless the FF website somehow doesn’t actually own or control the forums. Don’t know.
.
Many years ago I would read the other forum sections some of which were fun and interesting, especially about UK stuff, and those posters never shared the crazy and nasty views of the typical FF crazies at the Brad/Angelina section. Those posters were almost exclusively UKers unlike the Brad/Angelina section which is mostly Americans.
.
But yet another example of people enriching themselves on the backs of Brad and Angie.
.

The Brazilian press claims that Angelina will not come to Rio.

He will come with Shiloh and Zahara.

@I love Angie:

Olá! Eu sou brasileira.

——————————————————————————————

Hiiii! I’m Brazilian. I live in São Paulo. I am passionate about the couple “Brangelina”. I’m a fan of Brad Pitt since age 12.

I was very happy when Brad got a real woman like Angelina. Mother, humanitarian, actress, director … the love of your life.

Here in Brazil we do not talk about anything else … we were expecting the visit of Angelina too, but it seems that will not happen because she’s too busy.

Brad Pitt will be staying at the Copacabana Palace and arrive June 22. Premiere will be at the Lagoon theater in Rio June 24.

I’m super excited … like Premiere will take place on Monday, do not know if I can go to the Rio, since work during the week.

Hello ladies, I am back from my South America trip. Hello to Daniela from Brazil. I didn’t get to visit your country though. Has to be another time. I was in Bolivia when I read on BBC news about Angelina. I was so shocked. She was on TV and the front page of many newspapers there. When I got to Peru, saw her on the news again about her first appearance after surgery. I am so glad she is doing fine, and so happy to see the support she got from Brad, her family and the fans all over the world.
Looking forward to see WWZ tomorrow. Come back just in time for the movie. I have my priorities. LOL.

That’s good news. Hopefully it’ll surprise the BO pundits in a few more countries, too. They basically don’t know what it’s going to do internationally until the numbers start rolling in tonight and Friday night. In the US they can at least track the films and gage interest by online ticket sals but in the foreign markets they can track it a ltitle bit but not as closely so they have to wait until after the face. It’s going to be a long 2 days for Paramound execs…

@groundcontrol:

GC, i couldnt help but see your very reasoned post about FF but I have to tell you, it will a cold day in h3ll before i EVAH go to that site again.

I used to go there back in 05/06 thinking that i would play my part in countering the ignorance and hate on the brad/angie forum by making my own comments as well as reposting some of the stuff the very knowledgeable fans here would post on JJ. In fact, i used to even try to be considerate of ticky. Until the bi@tch outed herself in the infamous VF article. And then i began to recognize her nasty passive-aggressive dirty tactics in the media and with how she and huvsie set her sycophants to do her dirty work.

And then i really began to bitchslap that nasty fukkker in my posts on ff.

I recall that during my visits there, i would check out the other forums and the other areas of the site just to see if the madness was pervasive. But it was like moving from a sewer back to normalcy – the crazy was only on the brad/angie forum.

And then i began to ask myself if the owners/editors/site managers werent paying attention to the most trafficked part of their site! I ask myself, how could they not know whats going on and step in to even stop some of the most egregious posts and topics on the brad/angie forum.

And then i also noticed that the story blurbs they carried on their front page was very scarce about Angie and Brad even tho they were so prolific with their HW life/their acting awards/their humanitarian work/their growing family/their swoon-worthy love/their travels/etc. And there were waaaay more stories about even the most frivolous stuff in tickydom.

So, unlike you, i dont believe the site owners are pro-angie or even neutral about her. I think they help feed the crazy. If you are seeing frequent posts there now about angie i’m sure its only because they CANT IGNORE her massive, global popularity and appeal, especially with all her accomplishments in all aspects of her life since her directorial debut.

So this last sentence of your post: “But yet another example of people enriching themselves on the backs of Brad and Angie” is most apt, and its all anyone really needs to know about the owners of FF. The owners/managers/etc of FF ARE NO BETTER than the mad, sick, schizos on the brad/angie forum. Scum of the earth is what they all are. Its going on 7 years since i’ve been there and no power on earth could ever get me there again. LOL I like feeling clean and fresh and sunshiny and hopeful and full of admiration for a great woman like Angie.

The only good thing i can say about FF is that its prolly the place where Brad got his ideas about how to make the zombies look in WWZ.

That story is just stupid. If the movie makes $150MIL in the US it’ll probably do double internationally for a total of $450MIL. Paramount is on record saying the movie cost $190MIL. The last time I checked 190×2 = 380. A $35MIL overage on a movie that was supposed to tank is NOT just “respectibility”. It’s “profitability.” Sheesh. If this were a Tiny Tom movie they’d be going on and on about how great it was doing despite all the needless bad press.

More eye-rolling BS from OuttaTouch. They’re only saying that because it sounds sorta truthful because Angie had given Brad old watches as gifts before. He’s collected them for a long time (just like Mr. I’M WINNING!). They need to get together with US because last week US printed that Angie got Brad some cooking lessons with a guy from Top Chef. I was laughing because they didn’t say she got the lessons for BOTH of them – just Brad. Now Outta Touch is saying she got him a watch…maybe that’s so he’s not late for cooking classes…

I absolutely agree with you about FF. Of course the owner knows about the Brad/Angie section and what it says. Though he may be willing to use the hits to his advantage and officially keep himself out of the postings by having moderators do it all – that way he can avail himself of the internet exception to the liability laws. Who knows?
.
But he won’t get rid of that section as long as he needs those hits to the site. He just got a loan last year based on the “popularity” of his site. Something tells me that the rabid visitors to the forum helps his numbers. It wasn’t a very big loan as business loans go which should tell you what numbers we are really talking about.
.
I was at FF in 2005 and 2006. LOL! I remember when the sane people (both Angie fans and Jen fans) left it to the crazies. They hated anyone who posted reality and refuted their nonsense. They still do.
.
Perhaps the owner realizes that Angie and Brad news sells because he does post a lot of it now. I just had to repost that Crying Ticky vid though. It was too hilarious to resist.
