Sam Taylor-Johnson to Direct 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie!

Sam Taylor-Johnson has landed the coveted position as the director of the highly anticipated film Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the bestselling book by EL James, according to Deadline.

The 46-year-old director, whose only feature length credit is the 2009 film Nowhere Boy starring her 23-year-old husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will direct with a script by fellow Brit Kelly Marcel.

Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life,” producer Michael De Luca said in a statement. “EL James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit.”

No word yet on who will be playing the pivotal roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. EL James will be producing alongside Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca, who worked together on the Oscar-nominated film The Social Network.

I think her husband (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) would be a good Christian. I’m remembering the bedroom scene Blake Lively in “Savages”.

I would have preferred a director with more experience in difficult subject matter, like Guy Van Sant, but the producers must have seen something in her I don’t. She’ll probably do a great job.

I meant Gus Van Sant, of course.

It’s a highly sexual story…not a porn, but it can degenerate in porn, if not done well…and that’s why is difficult and needs a qualitative experencied director. I see she’s totally inexperienced…I don’t know what to expect from her…I think with this the idea to enjoy a movie about the trilogy faded for me.

I tried to read the 1st book because of all the hype but had to quit because it was so boring and senseless. I can’t imagine something so uninteresting being turned into a movie.

Henry Cavill is a great actor. Waaay too good for this nonsense.

I knew they would have to scrape the bottom of the directors barrel to get one to direct this. This book does not belong on the big screen but on HBO for example. You can combine all three books into one HBO movie as there was no need for 3 books anyways.

    QTPIE Says:

I think Ian Somerhalder and Lena Dunham would be a good Christian and Ana

    JUNO Says:

OH give me a break. This is some cheese sex summer reading novel. It is and will never be considered a great novel. Just a book for women that need to get their sex life at home on track so they don’t have to cream their panties over an imaginary man and woman. That HELLO don’t exist. The reason she was chosen as the director is because not real established Director would talk on this piece of cheese. And no way in the world would Henry C do this movie. Nor would Ryan G, Fassbender or any of the other men named. They will cast a C or D actor or actress or some unknown.
    growup ladies.

Close the book and live a real life.

@JUNO: jeje… I’ve not read the novel, but I do wonder if people’s sex lives are really so boring that they have to make such a big deal about this book.

    @JUNO Says:

What you fail to realize is that 50 Shades was never penned to be a “great novel”. E.L. James herself said it was just meant as some harmless entertainment.

Its weird that that they chose a director with so little experience, but I like that she has an inappropriate relationship herself. She must be used to people giving her grief about that, so maybe she can use some of her own experience for the movie.
