'Monsters University' Beats 'World War Z' to Win Weekend Box Office

Monsters University topped this weekend’s box office, earning $82 million in its opening weekend!

According to THR, Disney and Pixar’s long-awaited prequel – starring Billy Crystal and John Goodman – also took in an early $54.5 million, giving the film a worldwide debut of $136.5 million.

Coming in at No. 2 was Brad Pitt‘s World War Z, which earned $66 million, making it his biggest domestic opening ever.

Taking the No. 3 spot was Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, which grossed $41.2 million in its second weekend.

Rounding out the top five were Seth Rogenā€˜s directorial debut This Is the End and Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco, bringing in $13 million and $7.6 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Fast & Furious 6 stayed strong with $4.6 million, and Emma Watson‘s The Bling Ring racked in an additional $1.8 million as it expanded to 650 theaters in its second week.
