Angelina Jolie: United Nations Security Council Meeting!

Angelina Jolie speaks before a United Nations Security Council Meeting on “Women and Peace and Security and Sexual Violence in Conflict” held at the UN Headquarters on Monday morning (June 24) in New York City.

The 38-year-old actress, who is a Special Envoy for the UNCHR, criticized the UN Security Council powers for their lack of action over wartime rapes.

“You set the bar,” Angie told the council (via the Huffington Post). “If the … council sets rape and sexual violence in conflict as a priority it will become one and progress will be made. If you do not, this horror will continue.”

“Let us be clear what we are speaking of: Young girls raped and impregnated before their bodies are able to carry a child, causing fistula,” she continued. “Boys held at gunpoint and forced to sexually assault their mothers and sisters. Women raped with bottles, wood branches and knives to cause as much damage as possible. Toddlers and even babies dragged from their homes, and violated.”

“Meet your commitments, debate this issue in your parliaments, mobilize people in your countries, and build it into all your foreign policy efforts,” she urged. “Together, you can turn the tide of global opinion, shatter impunity and finally put an end to this abhorrence.”

Before the meeting, Angelina was spotted giving a hug to Zainab Hawa Bangura, the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violent in Conflict.

FYI: Angelina is wearing Saint Laurent.

@Susan: Btw Susan, I believed Lamey was pushing MOS to bear WWZ over the weekend. How come she did not say anything about MOS taking in half of MU box office $s and WWZ beat MOS by about $17m. Strange Lamey did not make any reference to her baby MOS dropping over 65% it’s second weekend.

The Internet has certainly opened the floodgates for all the nasty, embittered, know it all, misfits to make themselves known.
Perhaps we should all be grateful they are nothing more than imagery on the net and not inflicting their real sorry selves onto the world.
All this talk about what WWZ needs to make a profit – unless these people know what contracts have been signed and their contents they have no idea when Z will turn a profit. All their generalities are meaningless with a movie like WWZ and with a star like Brad Pitt.
I wonder of the theaters are getting anything yet and if they are then it’s no more than 30%. That’s been the standard for many years now for just regular first run, big studio films. Back in 1999, the studios were able to demand 70% of all proceeds from the first week for The Talented Mr. Ripley and a guarantee of a 4 week run. Can you imagine what Paramount was able to get for WWZ? Z may be one of those movies that gets 100% of the OW and then a high percentage like 70% the rest of the week.
Theaters do not make their profits from ticket sales. But they do need a movie that draws a crowd and they want that crowd to buy buy buy at the concession stands.

Rose- don’t forget that both MOS and MU were in hundreds more theaters than WWZ.

Please. Cinesnark is a MOS fangirl. She’s hyping that flick and naturally she’s gong to diss WWZ. As if her ridiculous tweet warning people not to see it has any effect at all. What a silly girl.
It’s MOS which has been the bigger disappointment to filmgoers. MOS fangirls and fanbois are all over trying to diss WWZ hoping that will help MOS.

Yesss! I’m so happy that World War Z has turned out to be a really big tent-pole for Brad, Plan B and Paramount. This means, of course, that Brad and I will be working together on new projects long into the future. Brad’s tent-pole will serve us very well, if you know what I mean.

You and Sarah are so stupid that you don’t know that WWZ were released in only 30% of international markets. If it has the same numbers in other markets, it’ll be a 600 million picture (200 million USA, 400 international). if with 30% of the markets it gets 46 million, with 100% it will get more than 150 million first weekend. I think that it’ll do less in some markets, and probably it’ll be a 500 million picture, great anyway.
But one thing is assured: it’ll do more than 400million.
    You can cry know, loosers.
    WWZ is a hit.

Berlusconi is sentenced to seven years in jail and banned from politics for life, after being found Guilty of paying an underage teenager for sex.
Did he think he was above the law? because he is millioniare.
Dolce and Gabbana sentenced to twenty months for tax evasion, 1.3 billion give the government a cut man.

    Wonderbust Says:

can these trolls and hens STFU with the $100mil in marketing. Newsflash, WWZ will make a killing in DVD sales, VOD, rentals, tv. That money is more than enough to cover marketing. and Sarah is dumb as hell because she said the international number were not impressive. Newsflash the movie did better than MOS in Korea and is on par with Inception in the international market thus far.

  14. 89
    Etta Says:

Lol at Sarah as well for saying it’s going to take a couple of weeks for wwz to reach $100m domestically. Well duh, it’s going to reach that amount this weekend.

    susan 101 Says:

The only reason angie is well known now, is because she hook-up with the more famous brad. Angie was no where on the radar until she cheated with him and broke up a marraige. God will punish her when the time is right. No one should be given praise to someone that has committed adultery. And brad is a non believer.

  16. 91
    Wonderbust Says:

hmm you all remember how tamshiit is always talking about how Channing Tatum is a bigger draw than Brad. Well his movie is coming out this weekend(budget $150mil). If it makes less than $66mil according to tammy’s logic that means its a flop, so I will be looking out for those numbers this weekend.

    Rose Says:

@Susan: Hi Susan, I see a troll stole your name. Life is tuff, trolls cannot think up an original moniker. WWZ with $66.5M is sending the Jen hens over the edge.

Angelina and Brad are the boss. Love them. Trolls are on melt down mode. But it’s all good. Trolls crying and Brad and Angelina laughing all the way to the bank.

    groundcontrol Says:

The 30% of the foreign markets WWZ has been released in does not mean it’s 30% of the foreign BO. Not all foreign markets are equal. It still hasn’t opened in the biggest markets.
So, yes. WWZ’s performance in the opened foreign markets so far is a great sign.
