Angelina Jolie: United Nations Security Council Meeting!

Angelina Jolie speaks before a United Nations Security Council Meeting on “Women and Peace and Security and Sexual Violence in Conflict” held at the UN Headquarters on Monday morning (June 24) in New York City.

The 38-year-old actress, who is a Special Envoy for the UNCHR, criticized the UN Security Council powers for their lack of action over wartime rapes.

“You set the bar,” Angie told the council (via the Huffington Post). “If the … council sets rape and sexual violence in conflict as a priority it will become one and progress will be made. If you do not, this horror will continue.”

“Let us be clear what we are speaking of: Young girls raped and impregnated before their bodies are able to carry a child, causing fistula,” she continued. “Boys held at gunpoint and forced to sexually assault their mothers and sisters. Women raped with bottles, wood branches and knives to cause as much damage as possible. Toddlers and even babies dragged from their homes, and violated.”

“Meet your commitments, debate this issue in your parliaments, mobilize people in your countries, and build it into all your foreign policy efforts,” she urged. “Together, you can turn the tide of global opinion, shatter impunity and finally put an end to this abhorrence.”

Before the meeting, Angelina was spotted giving a hug to Zainab Hawa Bangura, the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violent in Conflict.

FYI: Angelina is wearing Saint Laurent.

Angle looked beautiful today while bringing her message to the world. Angle is a brave and strong woman. More power to her and Brad.

    Angie Speech in UN Says:

    bring from the other thread…..

Angie made a emotional and powerful speech about “Sexual Violence in Conflict”, in her first time discourse in the UN Security Council.

Angie speech start at : 2:17:00

Angie voice is a beautiful whisper that comfort and give strong to the weakest but the content of her words burn and punch harder all the Politicians that she want to target and make impossible for them to escape the responsibility to take action.

Angie was brilliant and she give visibility to this subject like no other. She was happy to be there, in the UN, helping to change the world.

I imagine that Angie will be in the UN many more times in the future and probably she will be a full time UN Diplomatic.

PS: one of the best parts of the video is just before the beginning of the works, when Angie walk in the room the excitement is so big that even the others participants and assistants want to take a picture of Angie and talk with her. She was surrounded by people and the welcome was incredible.

    @susan 101:

er Angelina became a breakout international star with GIA since it was about true story about a supermodel and at the time of filming supermodels were IT. Fashion, film & music came together with that movie as well as critical acclaim/awards for Angelina which in itself gets you international press. Second: Girl, Interrupted. Everything from the moment she was cast all the way up to her receiving an Academy Award for her performance gave her international visibility. Third: Lara Croft : Tomb Raider this really put her and has kept her an internationally known actress. All of this in addition to Angelina being so stunning (atypical of what a Hollywood actress usually looked like around this time) and blunt speaking has made her an international darling. so please have a seat……

Love the Jolie Pitts – lovely to see you on the board too. You were the first poster on here to welcome me, so I always look out for you.
I agree, the fans on here have been great these last few days. There was a professional risk for Brad this weekend and the fans just took charge. It was like each fan independently decided ‘hmmm, not on MY watch! ‘
So they gathered husbands, children, neighbours, crazy aunt Bertha, the local, homeless drunk and just went and bought cinema tickets by the bucketload!
And look what happened! 66 million +. Great stuff!

Where’ s the loony Phool with his/her A4 lenght post about Jolie being the supreme ruler of Universe. Angie is so desperate to be the new Audrey Hepburn. Too bad she doesn’t have Hepburn’s caring, down to earth character. If her next film doesn’t make huge profit in the box office she can kiss her film career goodbye.

Dem grapes being served up today seem a bit sour……..LMAO……good on Brad for saying eff you to the snarky, nasty attempt to pull him down by the so called HW media……..they should have known better. Build em up, bring ‘em down doesn’t apply to the JP’s…..they are too pure in motive, too rich in talent, too smart and hardworking…….and too rare in the industry. If they are brought down there is literally no couple of their stature to step up.

As for the demons who have taken the time to come to a thread on the rape of babies, children and mothers and make it about a failed marriage almost a decade ago should be dropped into a refugee camp and left to fend for themselves for a few months.

And as for them referencing ‘karma’ for an imagined affair……I would be particularly nervous were I them……in fact I’d crawl into a protective bubble and live out my life intact and shielded because there has to be a ‘special’ level of karmic conviction for those who dismiss this level of horrific human suffering.

    Gold dust woman Says:

As for Lamey, that loser is just a 3rd rate Nikki Finke wannabe. While Nikki dines with Hollywood executives at major industry events like the Oscars, Lamey sits in her dressing gown ‘live tweeting’ from her living room with her other ‘writers’!
She has NO inside info about the industry and has zero standing in it. Watch her get it wrong every awards season. Every box office battle weekend. Every, well every time really!
So, no need to take any nonsense she writes seriously.

God rest Audrey Hepburn soul! Angelina has done much more than Audrey for the UN. Angelina has covered over 25 countries, Audrey was focus was Africa.

    Guerra Mundial Z: entretenimiento puro

    Puro entretenimiento puro.

@Adorkable jolie: Angie and Brad have been together so many years, are clearly so in love, and have six gorgeous babies together, it is very apparent that they both share so much.  I was trying to agree with about how even hot Angie & hot Brad are also very cute, especially when they are laughing, and enjoying each other’s company- it is truly a joy to see.  However, if you want to only focus on Angie, it is this beautiful inner humor, sweetness and nerdiness (what you are calling “adorkable”) that is one of the many reasons that Brad fell deeply in love with Angie and is still so in love with her to this day.  I remember during AMH promo Angie talked about how attractive Brad finds it when she is reading/studying and writing her op-eds.  Here is the link to video I referred to where Angie calls herself a dork. At one point Simon W says, “Of course, Angelina is brilliant, you know, and can do anything”.  We saw the truth in Simon’s words today at the UN, almost 15 years after he spoke them.
