Jim Carrey Bashes His Own Film 'Kick-Ass 2' For Violence

Jim Carrey has spoken out on his upcoming film Kick-Ass 2, condemning it for its use of violence following the tragic events at Sandy Hook last year.

“I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence,” the 51-year-old actor tweeted. “I meant to say my apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

Comic book author Mark Millar, who also executive produced the film, wrote a blog post following the tweets to express his opinion on the matter.

“As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay eighteen months ago,” Mark wrote. “Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin. A sequel to the picture that gave us HIT-GIRL was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much.”

“Ultimately, this is his decision, but I’ve never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real-life. Our job as storytellers is to entertain and our toolbox can’t be sabotaged by curtailing the use of guns in an action-movie,” he added. Head on over to his blog to read the full post.

    I still find Jim Carrey funny, but after this latest glob of doodoopoopicaca that came out of his pie hole, I find him even funnier because he’s still going to be getting a great big morbidly obese royalty checque for his work in Kick Ass 2…

    Did the Riddler need guns? Says:

    Adam Peter Lanza, Jared Lee Loughner and James Eagan Holmes had Aspergers among their mental illnesses and not too long ago
    would have been kept locked up in institutions.

    After we stopped locking up most mental cases and tried to “mainstream” them, we made ourselves vulnerable
    to Riddler like evil geniuses doing mass killings.

    China and England have extreme gun control and
    they still have mass shootings by lunatics using
    firearms they were not supposed to have.

    Give it up Says:

    @jim brother:
    Wouldn’t that be supporting the gun industry?? After all they will just make more. I’m more of an advocate for teaching rather than controlling. We need to educate society regarding the repercussions of bulling and hatred.

    Jim Carrey is an idiot. A movie like this with its cartoon violence has nothing to do with Sandy Hook. Donate your money if you feel that way.
