Demi Lovato Covers 'Fashion' Magazine August 2013

Demi Lovato goes colorful on the August 2013 issue of Fashion magazine, on newsstands July 8.

Here is what the 20-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag:

On dealing with double standards: “Guys can be scandalous and not get any crap for it. In my song [“Something We’re Not”], I’m saying, ‘girls, have your fun—don’t let anyone let you feel bad about your actions. Ever.’”

On how moving to L.A. helped her transform: “L.A. has opened my eyes. I learned that ignorance stood in the way of my insight. I wasn’t really being honest with the way I used to live. I was pretending to be a role model during the day and turning into a wild child at night. I could remember word for word what my bullies said to me. Last night I had nightmares about it…just degrading things that hurt me and affected self-esteem. It affected the way I look at girls my age. I used to fear them.”

On how The X Factor is keeping her on her toes: “The show made me a tougher critic and better empathizer. I understand artists a lot more now. I get scared for them because we if they don’t make the right decisions right now or if they don’t have the right people around them, they could put their careers in danger. What they never show [on X-Factor] is me backstage crying with certain contestants. I had to walk off a couple of times too because it gets too emotional for me. They never showed that.”

FYI: Demi is wearing a Just Cavalli dress. For more from the issue, visit FashionMagazine.com!

Nice cover but it must be an old picture. Demi is twice this size now.

I really like Demi. She seems to be a thinker, reflecting and learning constantly.

And I love her outfit on the cover.

    Josephine Says:

“‘girls, have your fun—don’t let anyone let you feel bad about your actions. Ever.’” – is not a good massage for her fans. I know what she means about the double standards but her fans are not grown women but teenage girls who tend to take things very literally. I can picture some 13 year olds thinking that Demi told them not to feel bad about boozing, taking drugs and sleeping with some old creeps, because it was their definition of fun. Not every singer has to be a role model but she always talks about incluencing her fans and sending messages through songs so she aims to be.

    @Josephine:
I don’t agree. First all of her fans aren’t teenagers, a lot have grown up with up and are now adults. I’m 20 and I don’t consider myself a teen.
And secondly, her fans know about the fact that she went into rehab, that she doesn’t drink, that she always encourages everybody not to do drugs or to drink so I don’t see how they could take this message the wrong way, or at least not this way. It would just go the opposite way of what she is standing for.

We all know I have a weakness for her hair dark. But any color is fine with me. It’s not the color of her hair , but the person that she is that I love.

    pika Says:

yeah quite a few of her fans are maturer now especially since she went on x factor usa. i think selena will struggle with shaking off her kiddy fans since all 3 of her next movies are still pg13

    Blair Says:

“What they never show [on X-Factor] is me backstage crying with certain contestants. I had to walk off a couple of times too because it gets too emotional for me. They never showed that.” Umm… what was the need to tell everyone that…?

@destiny: It’s not an old picture, just look at her hair! Demi is this size and she’s GORGEOUS! She’s a real girl and her body is amazing!

    Pizza Says:

Why is this so photoshopped? She hasn’t been this thin in a long time. Her body is fine the way it naturally is and they should show it.

    Warren Says:

Demi looks beautiful on the cover.
