Kerry Washington Covers 'Vanity Fair' August 2013

Kerry Washington shows off her swimsuit body on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s August 2013 issue, on newsstands July 9.

Here’s what the 36-year-old Scandal star had to share with the mag:

On Scandal being a profound show: ““It’s especially profound in a place like South Africa. It’s called The Fixer over there, and it just started its second season. The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an aspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television. I don’t think white women would feel that way about Olivia if her identity as a woman, period, wasn’t first in their mind.”

On celebrating being able to vote when she turned 18: “My becoming a voting citizen was celebrated the way other people would celebrate a Sweet 16. My parents took me out to dinner, and we talked about who I was going to vote for.”

On what she loves about her Scandal character: “What I think is cool about Olivia is that she fully owns being a woman. There’s a very nurturing sense of ‘I’m going to take care of you—don’t worry about it. I’m gonna be your mom in this situation. You come stay in my office, have a cup of tea, and let my gladiators take care of you.’ There’s something very maternal about it. But there’s also something very executive about her, and I mean ‘executive’ in a presidential way.”

She is gorgeous, smart, has a good show but I have heard she really is not nice to other women. Her image is all an act. Too bad. Also don’t find her too be that great of an actress.

@Beth: I’ve never heard that. All I ever hear about is how nice and sweet she is…

# 5

That’s right KERRY, you make us all women proud white women respect you too!!

@Beth: That’s bull her co stars say she’s been nothing but awesome to them, Darby said Kerrie the type to randomly send her wine and flowers just to say good job on set today, I think that’s pretty nice AND she is to much of a feminist to disrespect other women

This is amazing for Kerry to get the cover. I never would have thought signing up to a TV show would boost her career so much.

@harhar: “bleaching cream”? Yeah “right”.
If anything it’s the magazine and/or lighting.
Bleaching doesn’t make you look like that, you need to study about how harmful bleaching is and what effects it has, I’ll say this: It’s not anything natural and glowing like Kerry’s skin, that’s for sure.

She looks AMAZING!! Can’t wait for the new season of Scandal!

Kerry Washington is highly intelligent and represents women of all nationalities with dignity and grace. I look forward to the next series of “Scandal.” I wish her marriage to be blessed and her continued success on representing and encouraging women all around the world to be the best of who they are starting with their inner self and projecting that beauty outward as she has done thus far.
