Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Covers 'Essence' August 2013

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson flexes his muscles on the cover of Essence‘s August 2013 issue, on newsstands now.

Here is what the 41-year-old Fast & Furious 6 actor had to share with the mag:

On how his divorce made him a better man: “I want to be a man who is truthful and who won’t let pride get in the way of my ripping myself open to my partner and saying, ‘Here I am. This is me.’ I feel there’s something powerful when a man reaches a point in his life when he can be completely vulnerable.”

On what he wants in a relationship: “I want someone who can trust that my big hands are going to take care of them.”

What exactly does he know of “The Beauty of Black Women”? His ex-wife is Latina and his current girlfriend is white. Did I miss something?
    Nice cover though.

DEFINITELY AGREE with VERITY!! I read the article today and he just FLAT OUT LIED about dating black women. This man has never dated a black woman in his ENTIRE ADULTHOOD!!

I won’t be buying this month’s edition of ESSENCE. What a waste of a cover. There were sooooooooooooo many other DESERVING men of that cover and they “gave” it to him. UGH!!!

Dwayne The Rock Johnson does not like black women because of his dad’s BAD relationship with his mother. He’s NEVER had an emotional relationship with his paternal grandmother. This is ONE of the main reason he doesn’t like black women.

I was disappointed and a little insulted in Dwayne Johnson’s answer to the question “What do you love about Black Women?” which is really code for “What do you find sexy about us?”, especially since the previous questions were about sex and love. His answer was our love of family and culture…???? He then went on to comment about what he likes about women in general. His answer was plutonic and safe and basically told black women that he doesn’t find us sexy or attractive at all. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t expect him to objectify our body parts (we get enough of that from rappers..sadly). But from the grace of our walk to the sweet curl of our lips to the rich honeyed tones that color our words…not to mention the kaleidscope of hues ranging from wheat to blue black, and he could not find ONE THING alluring or appealing about us? Too many black women have him on their top ten lists of sexy and fine and for him to give such a lackluster answer to that all important question was less than gentlemanly of him.

What’s more troubling is why black women need affirmation from a cheesy celebrity wrestler in a magazine?
You expect too much of these people..he just wants your $!

I completely agree. He’s a handsome guy and decent at what he does, but I’m not looking for him to validate me as a black woman. Lol.

@Jessica either.. he’s cool though for what it’s worth..don’t take it too literal and keep it movin….
