The release date puts the film adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s acclaimed 2010 book in the heart of awards season.

Universal has set a Christmas Day 2014 release for World War II drama Unbroken, which marks Angelina Jolie’s second directorial effort.
    OUR EDITOR RECOMMENDS

Coen Brothers to Rewrite Angelina Jolie’s ‘Unbroken’ (Exclusive)
The coveted release positions the film — an adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s acclaimed 2010 book book about World War II hero Lou Zamperini — for an awards run. Ethan and Joel Coen are writing the script from previous drafts by William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese.
Universal picked up the rights to the book in January 2011, initially for Francis Lawrence to direct. Jolie boarded the project last December.
STORY: Angelina Jolie to Direct WWII Drama ‘Unbroken’
Zamperini was a Los Angeles high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In 1943, his Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific. He survived without food and water for 47 days, enduring shark attacks, aerial attacks and hunger before washing ashore on a Japanese island behind enemy lines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years and tortured by his captors.
“I’ve had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Louie Zamperini, who is a hero of mine, and now — I am proud to say — a dear friend,” said Jolie. “I am deeply honored to be telling his extraordinary story, and I will do my absolute best to give him the film he deserves. I am grateful to Universal for making this film a priority.”
Jolie, who previously directed In the Land of Blood and Honey, is producing with Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff. Walden Media will co-finance the film, which is set to start production in September. Roger Deakins has boarded the project as cinematographer.

Roger Deakins Will Shoot Angelina Jolie & Coens’ ‘Unbroken,’ Set For Late 2014 Release
Posted by Jack Cunliffe, on July 10, 2013 at 1:30 pm

It’s rare when a cinematographer gets us more intrigued in a project than anything else, but someone like Roger Deakins will do just that. Coming off his biggest hit yet with Skyfall, the No Country For Old Men and Assassination of Jesse James director of photography has Prisoners arriving this fall and now his next film has been confirmed.
According to a press release, Deakins will shoot Unbroken, based the true story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini. Directed by Angelina Jolie in her follow-up to her 2011 debut In the Land of Blood and Honey, the script was given a pass by Joel and Ethan Coen, which might hint to Deakins’ involvement. Universal Pictures have also announced it’ll open on December 25th, 2014, alongside Annie, Into the Woods and Night at the Museum 3. Check out the press release below.
Universal City, CA, July 10, 2013—Universal Pictures today announced that Unbroken, the new film directed by Angelina Jolie, will be released in North American theaters on December 25, 2014. Unbroken marks Jolie’s second turn behind the camera, after her critically acclaimed directorial debut, 2011’s Golden Globe Award-nominated In the Land of Blood and Honey.
Based on The New York Times bestselling book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” by Laura Hillenbrand (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”), Unbroken is set to begin production in late September 2013. Jolie, who is joined on the project by fellow producers Matthew Baer (City by the Sea) and Erwin Stoff (The Day the Earth Stood Still), has been a fierce champion of bringing this incredible story of Louis “Louie” Zamperini’s bravery and heroism to the big screen. Joining the behind-the-scenes crew are an accomplished team, led by ten-time Oscar®-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall), who comes aboard as director of photography, and Jon Hutman (In the Land of Blood and Honey), who reteams with Jolie as the film’s production designer.
“I’ve had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Louie Zamperini, who is a hero of mine, and now—I am proud to say—a dear friend,” said Jolie. “I am deeply honored to be telling his extraordinary story, and I will do my absolute best to give him the film he deserves. I am grateful to Universal for making this film a priority.”
Originally published by Random House in 2010, the book follows the incredible life story of Olympian and war hero Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. The book has sat atop The New York Times bestseller list for more than 135 consecutive weeks and is the sixth best-selling nonfiction title ever since the list began in 1942. It was also the winner of the Los Angeles Times Book of the Year Award for Nonfiction.
The project has a long history with the studio, which first acquired the rights to tell the life story of Zamperini in 1957 and optioned the rights to Hillenbrand’s book in December 2010. Jolie was attached to direct in December 2012.
Academy Award® winners Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men) rewrote the screenplay from earlier drafts by William Nicholson (Les Misérables) and Richard LaGravenese (HBO’s Behind the Candelabra). Mick Garris and David Crockett serve as executive producers.
Are you looking forward to Jolie’s next film?

    Good morning Phool and Rose,
    How are you two today?
It seems like the trolls stole your moniker again, rose. I knew that wasn’t you :p.
Ladies, our Angie will own 2014! I can’t wait for Unbroken to begin filming. Also, I can’t wait to see Maleficient! Our Angie is doing big thangs!

Congratulations to Angie on such wonderful news!

She is amazing. I really am so proud to be a fan.

  • were the morons

@Wonderbust: Not until you mentioned it right now lol. Lmao, that’s funny! Seems like squiggs family loves them some Angelina. I also believe squiggs crush on Agie hasn’t gone away either… Maybe squiggs is using ticky to get closer to angelina? Hmmm, who knows…

    bravo,anjie.all the best.bless u.

Christmas Day, then the Studio is expecting Angelina to have an award contender. Let’s see how the Trolls handle this. LOL

  • Ⱦamsin

And this is news because??? LOL, all movies have release dates. Jared should know better that making another paid post aimed at promoting a much maligned, 50 year old, stuck-in-development-hell production only because the Ho is desperate to attach herself to it, to the point of working for free. We know Ho ruined her directorial debut with her glorification of rape. No one paid to see that movie, so it’s not like she’s got a huge hit to live up to.

Why should anyone have expectations about this at all anyway? No one in Hollywood cares, otherwise this would’ve been made eons ago. How many times over the course of 50 years has a release date been announced? That’s my question. LOL.

  • anustin

awwww…the killer /murderer is on board.

  • http://cellphone Susan

This is how the Pros roll, no sitting around twisting the hair extensions.

  • Dc

I will be at the theatre the day it opens. With Angelina directing, it will be the absolute best! That’s for sure!!! <3

  • anustin

my question is…..why do you want to murder anjie?????

  • Ⱦamsin

    @Rose:

Oh wow… it’s refreshing it is to see another person whose first language is not loonish. How’s it going? :)

The previous occupant of that moniker is a seriously mentally ill person who uses multiple aliases to posts lies, accusations, threats, tries to pin them on others, and has a borderline pedo fascination with this vapid celebrity couple’s offspring. I’ve realized that she’s not above physically or morally harming people on behalf of her idols either. I don’t think she’ll be missing that screen name, as she has plenty of them to choose from, isn’t that right Valis5150? :D

  • valis202

Congratulations Angie. Can’t wait to see this film. It sounds like it will be one hell of a film with Angie, the Coen Brothers and now Roger Deakins on board.

Not bad for somebody who no longer has a career in Hollywood anymore (as the trolls would say).

  • carol Lee

Yuk!!!!!! She should play a witch because that is what she looks like. Freak!!!!

Fanaticism is the passion of the fan, a person who tenaciously defended their beliefs or opinions unmeasured. A fanatic is one who is too excited or worried about something blindly.
Fanaticism is a unqualified commitment to a cause. The aforementioned blindness that produces the passion leads the fan behaves sometimes way violent and irrational. The fan is convinced that their idea is the best and only valid, so belittles the opinions of others.
The lack of rationality can reach such an extent that, by fanaticism, a person kills another.
Psychology says that fanaticism comes from the need for security experienced by people who, exactly, are insecure. It is a kind of compensation against a feeling of inferiority.
I love this, It’s the perfect definition of these losers.

Have you read about Celebrity Worship Syndrome? This also describes the JP trolls to a tee.

    http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/new-age-celebrity-worship

“… there are an increasing number of us for whom the fascination with celebrities is a substitution for real life — with the focus on a celebrity replacing the focus that should be on our own lives. And that, he says, is the point at which some folks begin to get into trouble.

Depression, anxiety, and a decrease in self-esteem are just some of the documented problems that can result when we take the focus off our own lives and instead focus all our energy on the life of a celebrity.”

And this bit reminds me of Passing Poop’s email exchange with the paid loon.

“Information about the celebrity, or any little thing from their life, is like a fix the worshipper must have — they are almost compelled to learn more, read more, know more. And it’s nonending,” says Long Island, N.Y. psychologist Abby Aronowitz, PhD. Experts say some even begin to believe they have some special connection to the celebrity.”

Is the idiot tampon troll still saying Unbroken isn’t genlited? lol

  • Lol

    I meant ” greenlited”

  • valis202

    LOL.

Tamshit calm down. Again I am not Rose but it’s path of the course for you to get this wrong just like everything that you post here is wrong.

The thing is, I find really disturbing that you thought you could threaten to murder Angie and that other people on this post wouldn’t be horrified. I don’t know if in your ‘normal’ world premeditated murder is path of the course but in the world that us loons inhabit it isn’t.

I think that your 2 minutes of fame on this thread are up. I adore the fact that Rose (again not me) has decided to go all gangster on your a** and call you out for the piece of scum that you are and hopefully Angie’s lawyers will start monitoring this thread so that they can get a look at the disgusting bile that you write.

You get everything wrong about the JPs, you haven’t converted one poster to your delusional way of thinking and you just repeat the same s**t over and over again.

Why don’t you just call it quits and put us but more importantly yourself out of your self imposed misery.

  • Ⱦamsin

Oh but wasn’t “Cleopatra” greenlit as well? And please enlighten me, what happened to “Gravity”? LOLOLOLOL.

  • Geez

Hey Tamcrap there’s a new boring Aniston post for you, why don’t you go pollute your idol’s thread!! She need all the help she can get shucking her polluted lake water.

Pitt in England filming Fury in September

Jolie will be in Hawaii in September

They will be separated for months

    Explain that one will you?

  • Roseanne

    @Ⱦamsin:

she turned down Gravity.. not once, not twice but 3 times. if she wanted to do it she could have. She didn’t want to do it.

  • Mr and Mrs Smith

OMG, do people live in dream worlds? LMAO.

‘Never right’ should be some people’s motto.

  • valis202

    Tamshit

Why does it rile you so much that the people on this threat like and respect Brad and Angie. People’s fascination with movie stars has existed since Hollywood began so there is nothing unique about this thread.

So you think that the JP fans have mental health problems. Fine so don’t come here. If our so called ‘fanaticism’ is too much for your delicate drug hating, adultery loathing but premeditated murder loving disposition then leave and don’t come back, simple as.

  • Lol

Angie will do Cleopatra after she gets Unbroken done, she turned down Gravity twice. She wasn’t interested in that one.

  • Mr and Mrs Smith

Jack O’Connell Lands Lead in Angelina Jolie-Helmed ‘Unbroken’

Angelina Jolie has settled on her leading man to anchor the Universal drama Unbroken. Jack O’Connell, best known for his role on the British series Skins, will tackle that role of real-life World War II hero Lou Zamperini.

The actor, who will be seen as Calisto in 300: Rise of an Empire, beat out a bevy of up-and-comers for the coveted part of the Los Angeles high school track star-turned-Olympian (he raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics). In 1943, Zamperini’s Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific. He survived without food and water for 47 days, enduring shark attacks, aerial attacks and hunger before washing ashore on a Japanese island behind enemy lines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years and tortured by his captors.

Ethan and Joel Coen penned a recent draft of the screenplay, which is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s 2010 best-seller. Universal picked up the rights to the book in January 2011, and William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese worked on previous drafts before Jolie took the film’s reins in December.

Jolie is producing with Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff. Walden Media is onboard to co-finance.

O’Connell is repped by CAA and Conway van Gelder Grant in the U.K.

It is a waste of time to respond to tsmsin or whoever it is. They obviously are Aniston fanatic and hate Angie. Besides the fact that all its info about Angie is wrong. So please JP fans do not waste time or patience responding to this pathetic dangerous person. I say again with fans like this no wonder Aniston is considered such a loser.
