Cory Monteith: 'Glee' to Continue, Writers Hold Emergency Meeting

After Cory Monteith‘s tragic death, it has been speculated what would happen to his hit television show Glee.

It appears as if that despite the 31-year-old actor’s death, the show will continue, according to TMZ. Writers from the show apparently met for an emergency meeting today.

Glee is definitely not canceled. If you look at the dollars and cents of the show and that it was very much an ensemble with new kids being added last year when some graduated. It’s clear that the show wasn’t about one character,” one source said.

“The producers and writers are taking time to meet and figure out how to best address this situation in the context of Glee. No decision has been reached about a script yet, as it’s still early,” they added.

Sorry, but without Finn and Finchel I will never watch Glee again. I will cherish the first 3 seasons and pretend the disaster of the 4th season doesn’t exist. For me Glee is over.

  • snap crackle pop

Tough situation for the writers. Maybe make it explained by a sudden accident (car, etc.) that claimed his life, to emphasize how we never know. If that is too downbeat for the show? Say he got an offer he couldn’t refuse working in another state?

  • lll

the show needs to end .

  • Lea

    R.I.P

  • Duh

@Tom: Then you are not a real fan. You’re going to only stick with one character and claim yourself as a fan then you’re ignorant. The show was his life. It was something he worked so hard for. To just let it go and end because he’s gone, it’s not what he would want. I think they will get through this and the show will continue because the show’s fans needs this. Especially right now.

  • Sherry

Why are people acting like show is being cancelled. When one cast member leaves for any reason it no reason to shut down or cancel the show. The other cast members new and old are just as important as Cory. I can’t wait to start watching S5 it will be nice to see some new blood on the show.

  • Maria

Seriously? The show is continuing. No Finn, no view for me. And trust me, I love them all BUT we ALL knew Finn was the heart of glee. End of story. Plus after last season’s crapola, RIB needs to stop.

  • Sherry

    @Tom: Fine don’t watch.

  • Sherry

@Maria: Wrong he wasn’t the heart of the show. I only watched to see Jane Lynch and Matt Morrison.

  • Nikki

I don’t know… the main draw to the show was Finn and Rachel. Now Finn is gone… I don’t know how Glee will survive and it’s really too bad because it is a well-written and inspirational show.

  • Gilmore

I think no matter what they do its gonna be difficult for everyone To have the cast act through their real friend and person they considered family’s death if they kill finn off will be painful. But if they make up some bull about Finn moving and living happily ever after that would sting too. Maybe they should just do a special episode w/ behind the scene stuff and favourite moments involving cory. Also, if the cast even wishes to speak about it only on camera, have them talk about their memories with him and end it there. Idk, probably dumb but it’s just an idea.

  • Gilmore

    @Sherry:

Andd? Do you want a cookie or something? His character was the leader on the show and many cast members can tell you that it was the same way in real life. Just because you watched for those particular actors doesn’t change that fact.

  • elle

Do you know what I think the worst part of it all is, is that Lea and all of the cast have to relive their emotions all over again when finn dies in the show. Thats gotta be tough

  • Allie

I’m sorry, but I don’t see how you continue. It’s sad. It’s tragic. It’s devastating for the cast and anyone that loved Glee. I just don’t see how they going back to the silly plot lines they were having last season after this.

I was never on board with a whole new cast of kids. They’re storylines aren’t as dynamic. The original kids were a big part of the show’s popularity, including Lea Michele and Cory Monteith. I wish that months down the road they’d have a memorial episode where they’d just talk about him, maybe sing for him.

Other than that, I don’t see many classy ways forward. What are they going to call Lea while she’s grieving this terrible, sudden loss and ask when she’ll be ready to go back to the show and pretend Finn moved away for good…. nobody can do that, including the audience.

  • anna

this will bee last season, Sorry, but without Finn and Finchel I will never want watch Glee again. i think for ”Glee” this is the end. :( and you all think Lea come back after cory death??????

  • remi

    His Show? LOL….

  • fifi

Did they ever think to Lea?? Even if she wants to continue, i don’t imagine how she will film the scene of Finn’s death…
It’s so sad, i tried to watch an episode of season 2 yesterday and it was impossible, still unreal for me….

  • likea

I don’t know, maybe they’re right but even I want to watch I can’t watch this show anymore. I love Glee but I know it will give me pain. I was a huge fan of Cory Monteith. I can’t even imagine Lea’s situation.

  • http://twitter.com/dionicho_yo dio

    It’s just devastating!
But you know what would be even worse? Cancelling the show!
If the show was cancelled and the inspiration Cory worked so hard for is lost, he couldn’t rest in peace…
His tragic death should empower the hope and the light he left behind, so he can be remembered as a HERO and not as a martyr.

  • Yuck Fou

They need to end his character the way he ended his life. Dont sugar coat it. Show the real truth. Show how addiction is out there.

  • what da

They’re right but this statement is so mean. He dead only 5 days ago not months. What will happen Lea Michele? I don’t think she wants to continue Glee, it must be so hard for her. I’m sorry but I just don’t get it. He was the co-star, I mean he was Finn Hudson. And no one like new New Directions members. They are so annoying. I watched last season for “old” New Directions members. If I will watch, I’ll just watch for Kurt. But I think I won’t. Sorry.

    And I’m not a fan. I’m a Gleek.

  • Old Gleek

I enjoy the ENTIRE CAST. Finn wasn’t on much of season 4. Yes, I will miss him and hope Cory is resting in peace. But I think the show should go on.

  • Reality Bites

They have already done a shooting. They already did a car accident with texting. I guess they could have it be a car accident and the other driver be under the influence of drugs. But man.. that is tough.

  • wtd

I can’t see them pretending like he’s at school or something, the show is just too honest….. and everybody knows….. it’s quite a dilemma, but I would prefer no singing tributes – that could get way too smarmy. I think they will spend a few minutes addressing it, calmly and honestly, no need to preach about drugs because the message is so obvious, isn’t it.

  • adamluv1000

I am so sorry about Cory, but in the business world you don’t cancel a show if one character leaves (by whatever means). This year the young kids are being given a bigger story line. Last year they had difficulty weaving them in and still keeping the graduated seniors. Plus I am so looking forward to the addition of Adam Lambert. This should be very interesting to see what part he plays and to hear his gorgeous vocals. He is the best vocalist I have heard and Lea said she wants to sing with him (even if it is off the show.) I realize she isn’t thinking about anything but Cory now, but life does go on. Somewhat changed – but it must go on. Be sad now but don’t give up on what you enjoyed. Surely there is more than one character you like on the show. Don’t penalize the producers for what happened. They definitely have their hands full right now. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THEM.

  • anna

you don’t end the show just because one actor died. Glee is an ensemble show. Don’t watch it if you don’t want to watch that.

  • Ftp

My heart hurts i can’t even handle hearing songs covered by glee right now. I get it cory would want us to support his family and glee right now. He loved them and the show and they loved him. We owe it to ourselves and to glee and to cory to live life and give it a chance. Itll be with great curiousity and great pain to carry on without him. Well always wonder what wouldnshould have been. There will never be an episode that i wont think about our dear finn our wonderful cory. Im so glad to have spent these years watching and loved that he did choose to share himself with the gleeks of the world. Salut my friend and i hope god gave you a good answer….:)

  • Tina

Rachel, Finn and their relationship was the main draw for me. If Lea returns to the show I’ll keep watching it, but I can’t imagine how she could do that to herself. I do care about Blaine, Santana and some of the other characters and would probably watch it regardless, but it’ll never be the same for me.

  • Tina

I do wonder if perhaps the writers shouldn’t kill Rachel off with Finn. Have them get into an accident together. It’s too sad to think about her without him.

  • nunu

hopefully they have the character die from a drug overdose to emphasize the reality of what happened. I’m guessing he’ll just go “away to college”

  • nunu

lol, you think leah michele wouldn’t return. Girls all about the $$$

  • GregV

The writers need to deal with Finn to give gleeks permission to grieve. The storyline needs to be something with parallels to what actually happened to Cory but it can’t be exactly the same.
This show has a unique ensemble cast of both regular and recurring characters, and from one moment to the next I can edge toward very different characters and relationships becoming my favorites for that moment. Finchel, Furt, Rachel and Kurt, Mr. Shu and April Rhodes, Kurt and his dad, Kurt and Blaine, Blaine and his brother, Miss Sylvester and her sister, Santana and Brittany, etc., etc.
There is a lot of intentional goofiness in the storylines, but we always know that there is something that is on some level true to life that inspires everything, from Kurt not being allowed to sing the high notes in Defying Gravity to Rachel and Finn falling in love.

Millions of viewers have lost someone in real life and millions of others will. We don’t want to feel like life goes on at McKinley High and Finn is forgotten.
We all lost Cory (and, by extension, Finn) and we want a storyline that helps us feel like that loss is being respected and addressed. I really don’t think the writers will have Finn, for example, having moved away to open the first Taco Bell in Siberia never to be heard from again, because that would not be in keeping with their tradition of letting Glee stare at real life issues in the face.

  • NealB

Maybe now the show can get back to where it started out as a show about losers looking to win at godforsaken-McKinley high school, LIma, Ohio. I’d had just about enough of the graduates last year, including dear Ms. Michele. She needs to worry about over-exposure and take this chance to wind down her presence on Glee as an overaged actress playing a college kid. Love her, and can’t wait to see her in whatever she gets next, but enough Rachel Barry. Almost enough Kurt Hummel and Santana and bless them for moving on Heather Morris and Mark Saling. They’re all pushing 30 now and they look like it and they need to move on. The talent back at McKinley now is better than it was four years ago when the series began. They call all dance and most of them are great singers. It’s 2013 now, 2008 when the show started is long gone. No one will ever match Cory Monteith’s sincerity and heart and raw power as an actor and singer. But his character’s arc on Glee was at an end. Nothing wrong with the show moving on into the future and leaving the “first class” of Glee to fade away in the distance. Here’s to four more years of Glee!

  • ferdinand

    RECAST him already!

  • Broadwayfan

I can’t do it. I can’t watch the show, knowing Finn didn’t just move away someplace and calls his mom every few days.
They are going to make Finn die.
Those young people, and Lea…professionals or not, I can’t watch them have their hearts torn out in front of a camera.
I have to leave GLEE. Personally, I didn’t care for last season very much.
So I won’t miss it much. But, I’ll surely miss Cory.

  • Michael

    @Duh:

obviously wasn’t a big enough part of his life. he took his own life, accidentally or not. people need to stop looking at it as “oh poor corey”. he made his choice.

  • rocky

they killed off charlie sheen’s character in 2 and a half men and it’s on the air. and that crap aint much better than glee.

  • Wendy

Glee is all about not being a loser, no matter how hard the situation you find yourself in. I am hoping the show-producers, writers, cast and crew will help the fans make sense of what happened, help us to grieve with them and say goodbye to Cory/Finn.
I tried to watch”you make my dreams come true”video, and it was so hard. I am only a fan and knew Cory as Finn. I can’t even start to imagine what the people who knew him and worked with him almost everyday, what they must be going through.
Just a suggestion, but maybe the producers can just give us that Cory memorial that all the fans need and then end the show. And start another show with a different title-set a few years later, like someone’s broadway/movie debut or what the characters we love are doing to achieve their dreams and Mckinley will just be memories of how what they did then affect who they are today. You know, like give the characters a fresh start. A second chance. And then maybe it won’t be so hard for all of us to get through this.

  • MysterWright

C’mon! How marginal is it to say that you only like the show because of one star?! This is why people with money are thought brainless. o.O If you act shallow and marginal then you only get out of something what you put in. Nobody said success was easy. In fact, shows preceding Glee like Fame let you know first THING that being successful is like going the distance boxing 15 rounds with Sylvester Stallone. Its a workout! You like gym? Then apply that hunger to this show being a success too. Do it for Cory.
