Natalie Portman: Directorial Debut with 'Tale of Love & Darkness'!

Natalie Portman is set to make her directorial debut in a film adaptation of the memoir “A Tale of Love and Darkness” by Israeli novelist Amos Oz, Reuters UK reports.

The 32-year-old Oscar winner is also set to star in and write the script.

“She read ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’ and asked me for the rights to make a film adaptation around five or six years ago,” Amos said. “I agreed because of my high esteem for her work. She’s an excellent actor.” Natalie will portray Amos‘ mother in the film, who committed suicide when he was 12.

Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2014.

Love you Natalie!! Only hope the best for all you do!!

# 2

She is very brave, said no to the David Fincher movie for that.

# 3

So she wanted to do her own movie! That’s great for her! She is getting money to do it to.Great!

# 4

She is a horrible actress. How could it be a good movie if she is acting and directing???

# 5

@sial: She’s so bad that David Fincher asked her to do his movie…

# 6

I guess she’s tired of directors quitting or going AWOL…

# 7

This movie will flop like Angelina Jolies directorial debut. Portman doesn’t have much range as an actress, so how will she direct a movie? I guess the Oscar went to her head so much, that she think she ca direct now. Sorry but she will never be a sucessful woman director like Sofia Cappola, Kathryn Bigolow, Sarah Polly, etc.
Also, she looks too young to play the mother of a 12 year old kid. She herself looks permenantly 18. How laughable. They will no doubt look like brother and sister.

@ALG: LOL. She must be tired of co-stars walking out on her too.

# 9

Yeah, she just should wear her own clothes and she will look that old. I donĀ“t like her as an actress, she ruins it always with her own character. She needs to get real actors if she wants to make a good movie.
I heard that Aronofsky had to be really harsh on her while working with her on Black Swan, Girl had no clue how to act. Anyone can direct something but only real Directors know how it works.

Great to see her still sticking to things she’s passionate about. I’m sure she will make this a great portrayal of the era as I think is Oz’s intent. Congrats for her.

@really?: Agree. Only actor-turned-director that really knows how to direct is Ben Affleck. Portman and Jolie have no talent in these kinds of things. If Jolie gets an Oscar for directing before Sofia Cappola or Sarah Polley or any other real talented female director, then you know that Hollywood has gone crazy.
