Lea Michele Honors Cory Monteith with Memorial Service

Lea Michele and Ryan Murphy joined forces on Thursday (July 25) to honor and remember the late Cory Monteith with a memorial service.

“Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith,” producer 20th Century Fox Television said in a statement (via THR). “We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time.”

Cory passed away on July 13 at the age of 31 due to a “mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol” while in a Vancouver hotel. The fifth season premiere of Glee has been pushed back by a week to give the cast and crew time to grieve.

    This was organized by Fox, Lea wasn’t even in LA (or Canada, let’s stop the lies) this past week. Just ask people at the hamptons

  • well

    lea was at the service today, anyway it was nice for them to have this ceremony with the cast and crew. Best wishes for them

  • Maria

    Lea must be going through so much right now. I can’t even begin to imagine. But i’m glad she was able to attend and plan this out with Ryan today. Much love to you and everyone on the set Lea. I’ve been praying for you the most. Love you.

  • Kaitlyn

    So sweet that Lea organized this memorial. It must have been so hard for her. She seemed to love Corey very much. Much love to all the cast and crew.

  • Pauline

    dah can we please stop talking about this ? he’s dead and yes that’s sad but let her grief . Many people died yesterday in spain that deserves attention not a drug addict-so-called-singer

  • @5

    The why don’t you go share your condolences in a Spanish Forum. I’m sure many people died yesterday somewhere in Africa too, I dare say I’m sure some even died in the USA. People will mourn and cherish who they want. No one should police them and demand empathy it does not work that way

  • stay strong lea

    @:(: oh but actually in a recent interview with Ryan he actually did say that he and Lea have been planning for this memorial so yes, Lea did plan this memorial and this article is true. So so very sad. :((( I love them all. rip Cory

    @Pauline: You’re an ass… a heartless insensitive ass.

  • Marie

    I’m glad Lea is starting to heal. I will support her. Love her.

  • Devynn

    @Pauline: That’s probably the dumbest reasoning ever. So many people die everywhere in the world, every single day. BUT not many of them touched lives like Cory did. Yes, he was addicted to drugs. That being said, it doesn’t take away from the fact that he died way too early and that his death has hurt so many people.

  • gally

    @Pauline: your stupid and stfu

  • Jamie

    @ :( First of all, Ryan himself gave an interview saying Lea was planning the memorial with him. So, that’s your first fail. Second, Lea was in Canada considering Cory’s own cousin has said she was in the same area he was and ‘lying low.’ Not to mention, the first person to tweet about her being in Vancouver surrounded by five bodyguards was actually a photog who was good friends with Cory (BEFORE Radar printed the story with any details). Second fail. But yes, let’s believe random people in the Hamptons (by the way it was ONE person who said her mother said she saw Lea in Montauk and when the girl was asked questions about it, she never answered lol). Because we all know, we’ve never mistaken someone for a celebrity before, geez it’s not like Lea’s the only short, petite brunette out there. I’d take Ryan and Cory’s words about what Lea has been doing or where she’s been over you. And, I’m not even a fan. I’ve never watched an episode of Glee in my life, but this entire situation is very tragic and my heart breaks for Lea. :(

  • Jamie

    Typo. I meant, Cory’s cousin Richard’s words, not Cory obviously.

    Have you never hear of email or telephones?
    What does it matter where she was? I am sure she had input in the planning for the service, But none of this matters. What matters is a lovely talented guy called Cory died and his friends, family, fans and most of all Lea are mourning him. I really feel for Lea at this time – its so hard to go through something like this anyway but to do it with media attention must be even harder. And to make it even worse she has to return to work soon – hard enough after berievement but even harder when your work was with your partner who died. My heart goes out to her.

    @Pauline: It’s best you keep silent and only let people think you may be an insensitive, self-righteous b***h, not to post what you did and prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt!

  • Nat

    LOL @ people fighting over the whereabouts of someone they have never, will never meet, someone who doesn’t even know or care that they exist.

    What sad, pathetic lives you must lead.

  • British Latin American

    @Nat: Yet you dignify that behaviour by posting in the thread instead of ignoring it!.

    Whether or not Cory knew of his fans existence is not that important; he still touched many lives.

    Oh, and the people in Spain never knew we existed either, what is your response for that?

  • JT

    They were a wonderful couple, and both so talented. He especially for his acting and she for her singing–and they helped make “Glee” the juggernaut that it is. I’m saddened for Lea, but I hope she continues on her extraordinary career path and finds love and happiness again. We love you, Lea!
