Tom Hiddleston Confirms Loki Won't Return for 'Avengers 2'

Tom Hiddleston has confirmed the news that his beloved villain Loki will not be returning for the upcoming film The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“He’s not in it,” the 32-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly. “Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss [Whedon] gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.”

“When I think of all the things I loved as a child, for example, Hans Gruber wasn’t in Die Hard 2. And in Indiana Jones, by the time he moved from the Lost Ark to the Temple of Doom, there was a whole new bad guy. I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers even though it’s a shame for me. And let’s face it, there’s seven or eight of them as it is, and Joss is thinking about adding two more, so the screen’s gonna be a busy place. But I had the time of my life on that film. It was the most fun ever.”

Tom will still return as Loki in the upcoming flick Thor: The Dark World.

It’s no surprisevthat Loki won’t be in it but I’m still sad :( Loki’s the best by far in that movie.

Him and RDJ were the only fleshed out characters in the movie.

How about a stand alone Loki movie. Do something different.

this guy is still talking about loki move on

It is sad that Tom won’t be returning as Loki, but he is right. There simply isn’t much more to offer from Loki at this time . Maybe Loki can come back later and help his big brother, Thor…that would be different!

In the meantime, thanks for such a graceful exit. Hope your career continues by leaps and bounds…you deserve it!!

@jon:
he doesn’t STILL think about the role, its the role that make him more known and he’s just being responsible to people asking! he has many new projects and has been in great movies!!!

At least I don’t have to waste my money on the new Avengers movie now.

There is NO way that I am going to watch the movie then.. No reason!!!

As a HUGE Marvel Comics Fan, I’ll definately be dissapointed to be robbed of Hiddleston’s Loki. His skillful portrayal of the God of Mischief has been brillant and continues to thrill and facinate me the more dynamic and layered his character becomes. I believe villians that are able to compell and attatch to their audiences, are ultimately much more powerful and memorable, than say, one-film-villians are. I will watch Avengers 2 and uphold my long-term involvement in the intricate Marvel Universe, I’ll have to trust that Marvel know’s best, but please, give us more Loki! He is WAY TOO EPIC to not be a part of future Marvel films!! I’m all for a Loki spin-off/stand alone film. He’s a strong enough character to stand on his own, out from the shadow of his brother; he is, afterall, burdened with glorious purpose…
