Angelina Jolie: I Frightened Kids on the 'Maleficent' Set!

Angelina Jolie looks positively glowing while making an appearance on stage during the Maleficent presentation at the 2013 Disney D23 Expo on Saturday morning (August 10) at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

The 38-year-old actress told a story about how her costume scared all the children visiting the set except her own daughter Vivienne, who has a small part in the film as Young Aurora.

“The strange thing was people with little kids would visit the set and I would think, ‘I’m a Disney character!’” Angelina said (via EW). “I’d go over to the children and say hi. And they would scream and run off. One little boy actually said Mommy, ‘Please, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me.’”

“She was the only 4-year-old who wouldn’t scream,” Angie added of Vivi.

FYI: Angelina is wearing a Versace top with Saint Laurent pants and shoes.

I love how they seem to be keeping the Dark element of the movie. That is what I loved about Sleeping Beauty. As a kid I loved to be scared..

Angie looks amazing . So beautiful. She could wear anything and that beauty is just there. Everyone that sees her is in awe.. Always the same. She is stunning.

“Mommy, Please, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me.”

ROTFLMAOOOO, you gotta love kids; they never lie, do they? XD

@LooseLipz:

Her anorexia is as obvious as her nose jobs. And she is a mental patient after all. What kind of examples is she setting for her children? Cosmetic procedures, boob jobs, drugs, PR stunts, eating disorders. I feel sorry for them.

After her stint in a mental institution, Heroina claims that she didn’t need therapy because becoming a mother solved her life problems, it’s dangerous when people go about their lives with an untreated mental condition, especially when they have children.

The hags are upset.

Good..

Maleficent was introduced next. It’ll star Angelina Jolie as the infamous villain. Joiie shocked the crowd when she took the stage.

Hi Sunny,
.
I have been wanting to thank you for the information you brought over about more theatres being added in Japan to show ITLOBAH and also for the lovely comments so many of the people at the premiere made about Brad and Angelina.
.
Both Brad and Angelina are so gracious when they approach their fans here and abroad it is no wonder the fans flock to them and love them.
.
And how sweet it was of Brad to request the lady to interpret for him and how gracious she was to do it, and for so many years, and to make such lovely comments about him and Angelina.
.
Thank you for bringing us such an enlightening look at Japan and its culture. Your comments are always so very much appreciated.

Worldwide? If the full movie is as good as snippets they’ve shown, then it should easily do $1BIL. DOmestically? I’m thinking $300-$350MIL. If this comes to pass, then Ticky’s next movie will be a full-out p 0 r n o…”Ticky Does Movie Financiers”

3rd UPDATE, 11:55 PM: Angelina Jolie surprised the crowd at D23 today by turning up at live action panel. “Since I was a little girl, I was drawn to her. But I was also terrified by her, but she had this elegance and grace,” said Jolie about playing Maleficent in the upcoming backstory to the Sleeping Beauty character. “When I heard Disney was making the film, my brother encouraged me to take the role.” Jolie’s appearance came after Walt Disney live action production head Sean Bailey spoke about casting Jolie for Maleficent. “You can pencil out a list of all the amazing actresses in the world and for us this list only had one name for the role, Angelina Jolie,” exclaimed Bailey over as sketches from the film played on the big screen. “We’ll see the events that drove her to be evil. The film will intersect with scenes from the classic animated film. We initially meet Maleficent as a teenage fairy and how she’s betrayed,” he added of the Joe Roth production, directed by Robert Stromberg. After Jolie left the stage, Bailey showed the audience exclusive footage from Maleficent. In the clip, Jolie’s British-accented wicked Queen enters amidst CGI human faced fairies and green steam rising to curse the baby Sleeping Beauty. “Without a doubt, Maleficent will be a powerful movie experience when it comes to theaters next summer,” Bailey told the crowd.

Angelina Jolie Reveals How Daughter Vivienne Made Her Way Into ‘Maleficent’
By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – 17 minutes ago

Five-year-old Vivienne Jolie-Pitt pretty much stumbled into a plum role in Disney’s upcoming live action film “Maleficent.”

And while her mom Angelina Jolie, who stars in the film, had a lot to do with it, sheer nepotism wasn’t the reason. The real reason: Jolie scared all the little kids on set.

Jolie appeared before a shocked crowd at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, on Saturday to introduce new footage from the film, and was greeted by a standing ovation. And onstage, Jolie revealed why daughter Vivienne was cast: because she was the only kid on the film set who wasn’t frightened of Jolie while in full costume as the evil Maleficent — horns and all.

“The strange thing was people with little kids would visit the set and I would think, ‘I’m a Disney character!’” Jolie told the crowd filled with Disney fans. “I’d go over to the children and say hi, and they would scream and run off,” the 38-year-old actress said. “One little boy actually said, ‘Mommy, Please, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me.’”

In the film Vivienne plays the young Aurora (with the older version played by Elle Fanning). And yeah, she was cast because, as Jolie put it, “She was the only 4-year-old who wouldn’t scream.”

“Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was always drawn to her,” Jolie told the crowd, adding that it was her brother (James Haven, who was her date to the 2000 Oscars) who first urged her to take the role. “She had this elegance and this grace, and yet she was so cruel — just wonderfully and deliciously cruel.”

The film is an origins story, and Disney’s presentation illuminated just what sets it apart from the more traditional tale of “Sleeping Beauty” we all know. “We initially meet Maleficent as a teenage fairy and how she’s betrayed,” said Disney’s live action head executive Sean Bailey.

The footage seen at D23 on Saturday was of Maleficent casting a spell on Aurora.

“Maleficent” casts it spell on theaters starting July 2, 2014.

INSIDE MOVIES
by Anthony Breznican
-
excerpt…………….. The film, directed by Oscar-winning production designer Robert Stromberg, is a shift on the Disney animated version from 1959. Jolie said he brought a particularly acute sense of detail to the fairy tale world. “But It has to be from the point of view of the villain, so as beautiful as it was it also needed the edge, and to be a little sexy and little darker.”
Studio production chief Sean Bailey said it will include many allusions to that earlier film, however. “We’ll see the epic battle with of the dragon, but this time, just maybe, we may find ourselves rooting for the other side,” he says.
-
…………………………….. The footage previewed at D23 corresponded closely to the animated classic.
It begins with good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, flitting through the castle on their way to bestow gifts on the newborn Princess Aurora while a sinister looking king played by Sharlto Copely (District 9) glowers on.
While they bless her with spells wishing for a happy life, a dark wind blows through the castle, swaying iron chandeliers and sending the inhabitants cowering. A shadow rises, with two familiar curled horns.
Jolie’s black-clad Maleficent, who had a much earlier, uglier encounter with the king, has arrived before the court.
“Well, well …” she says, and smiles. “I must say I really felt quite distressed at not receiving an invitation.”
“You’re not welcome here,” the king snarls.
Maleficent sighs, looking back at the frightened court denizens. “What an awkward situation!” she says, as her crow lands on the baby’s bassinet.
“Listen well, all of you,” she says, in a voice eerily reminiscent of Eleanor Audley, who voiced the animated character. “The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty. But before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel — and fall into a sleeplike death … woken only by true love’s kiss.”
She cackles as the footage fades to the title: MALEFICENT.
The film opens July 2, 2014.
