Teen Choice Awards Ratings Down Despite Lea Michele Speech

It was a night full of memorable moments at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, but it didn’t translate into great ratings for the annual awards show.

The highlight of the evening was Lea Michele stepping out in public for the first time to accept an award following the death of her boyfriend Cory Monteith. While the appearance was never officially announced, it was highly anticipated that it would happen.

The show only ended up garnering 2.6 million viewers and marks the first time the show has not reached 3 million viewers since 2006, according to Deadline.

and this is Lea’s fault or what? this is ridiculous. justjared your headlines and style of writing articles suck.

# 2

it rigged anyways…

# 3

Your headline indicates that Ms. Michele may have been present only to boost ratings. Wrong … she was there to accept an award for her fantastic work. http://wp.me/p1se8R-3qQ.

hahhaha not even One Direction could it hahahaha

# 5

Well this is the first year that none of the core cast of Twilight were there. Nothing has teens amped up this year.

# 6

What it wasn’t like it was promoting that lea would be there. Stupid headline.

@Rose: That is it, no real big teen movie. Pitch Perfect was decent but not a big blockbuster

# 8

That’s a horrible way to phrase it. Like she commented on his death in order to garner ratings.

Maybe because Twilight received nine nominations people were expecting another Twilight award show and decided not to tune in? That’s has always been the complaint when Twilight swept the awards in the past. The producers should have known better. The scandal and the break up have put non-Twihards off (and lost some fans in the process). Some people are p.o.’d that the cast didn’t show up for the awards they did win. Badly handled all around.

Lea and Ashton were the best moments of the entire show
The rest of it was an absolute DISASTER!!!!!

This and the People’s Choice Awards are two award shows that could disappear and no one would care would they?

Dear Just Jared,

The total number of viewers are not important. The demo is important. According to TV By the Numbers it was a 0.9,

The title is kind of disrespectful…

The cast of Twilight didn’t show up..maybe because they are OVER it. Unlike fans who live in a permanent state of things can’t change..the two leads have moved on…and want t distance themselves from those characters and rigged tv show that fed the twi frenzy.
Not to mention if the leads who have reportedly broken up why would they endure total awkwardness…Had the producers been smart they should have offered a huge monetary payment to entice them to show up.

no twilight no audience.

@aquarius64: hardly anyone turned up to accept awards e.g robert downey jr, emma watson, nicholas hoult, johnny depp, justin beiber, taylor swift, hunter hayes, maroon 5 etc and the list goes on. people didn’t watch the show probably because they don’t really care who wins

Because it sucked!

“Like she commented on his death in order to garner ratings.”

It’s possible. We don’t know her. It’s show business after all. It was an interesting platform to publicly speak about this death, you will have to admit

@Ann: what he means is that the ratings were low and the only highlight was Lea’s speech, read the article properly before commenting because you just look like a tool with that comment. Plus the show was **** because less than half of the awards were presented and the twilight cast weren’t there.

Because everyone was watching Breaking Bad. haha

They should have magically gone up thanks to this b*tch because… ???

What??? you tell me the big promotion of the TRIBUTE of A++++ start Cory Monteith and the appearance in public for the first time of his widow of 20 years Lea Michele didn’t boost the ratings? How come????

That was the only thing FOX and TCA promoted, and look? nobody care. EMMYS just take note.

i don’t think it’s proper to write “Teen Choice Awards Ratings Down Despite Lea Michele Speech” as your title. Much better if you wrote “Teen Choice Awards Ratings Went Down”… that’s all. Lea has nothing to do with that. WITH or WITHOUT her speech the ratings will be the same.. I guess. #justsaying

I haven’t seen it yet, but it has really been a disaster since –i personally think— Miley’s hosting gig. I mean after miley’s TCAs, the stage got smaller until 2011, where from then on they literally used the same stage. Kayley C. did an okay job at hosting, but the main problem of the TCAs now was, they don’t exactly call out a lot of winners anymore. Like when one celebrity wins more than one awards they only say the other ones when he or she is going up to accept the board.

and barely all the good RELEVANT celebrities attend it anymore. One Direction came in the wrong year…and wrong time cause their voice is absolutely dead from the singing almost every night and because all the **** IRRELEVANT actors like Bella Thorne.

AND ALSO BECAUSE OF THE LAST 4 YEARS EVERY FUUCKING WINNER OF ALMOST EVERY CATEGORY IS TWILIGHT.

REALLY?

but aside from that we can all die in peace now because that shiits over, meaning we can actually get more PROPER winners next year.

& GAWD FORBID i hope next year ought to be better.

all that is my point of view.

kthanksbyes. ^.^

The media should try putting some of the blame on part of Glee that WAS responsible. Darren Criss. He’s not the star, nor the draw, they were hoping for. Unless you are part of a select fans from Glee (Blarrenstans) no one knows who he is, or really cares. Add on to the fact that the West Coast heard from the East Coast just how badly he bombed as a host – awkward, trying too hard and not funny – and they didn’t tune in. If anything, Lea was the most heartfelt part of the show and everyone knew they could watch it in YouTube.
