Katy Perry on Lady Gaga Chart Battle: It Keeps Us On Our Toes

Katy Perry has opened up about going up against fellow superstar Lady Gaga on the charts, as both of their songs “Roar” and “Applause” have just been released!

“It’s all about the music and I really agree with her message,” Katy said of Lady Gaga‘s song to AMP Radio. “I’ve always been a fan of hers and I like to see her evolution.”

“I think that it’s also nice that we’re all in the same kind of cycle together because it really keeps us both on our toes,” Katy added. “It’s not that we feel competition, it’s that we keep each other on each other’s toes and it’s a healthy thing.”

“Roar” is currently at #1 on iTunes, with “Applause” right behind at #2.

To be honest I am not a fan of Lady gaga, but for some odd reason, I like Applause, It’s really catchy!!, hahaha. I didn’t like it, It is kinda boring!

  • Jo

I love both but I have to be honest, Roar is better.
    Really disappointed in Applause.

  • lucia

I am sorry, I meant to say I didn’t like Roar!

  • Duh.

@lucia: What song were you even listening to?! Roar is exciting, a great message and upbeat. I couldn’t get through “Applause” entirely and had to turn it off. There’s nothing boring about a song that actually has meaning behind it.

going by livepopbars right now, Katy is selling double what gaga is, those little monsters must be getting out their razor blades and running hot baths.

I have to agree with the previous poster. I find “Roar” a little bland, though that’s not to say it won’t grow on me. I think part of the problem is that I can really hear the Bareilles influence and Katy doesn’t do the chill vibe as well as she does the upbeat, dancy pop anthems (in my opinion, at least.) As for “Applause” I’m officially hooked. Gaga really hit it out of the park for me on this one, even though she can be pretty hit or miss for me.

Neither artist is a personal favorite, but in terms of this “battle” I definitely prefer Gaga’s new one.

Roar isn’t that great of a song. I like Katy and I’m glad that her and Gaga don’t have any hard feelings for each other.

STOP THE DRAMA! START THE MUSIC! xoxo

“Applause” is just a great dance tune. Gaga knows how to give it. Love it.

I can’t stand “Roar”. I really wanted to like it but ugh…it just awful. Perry could do better.

ROAR IS A RIP OFF OF SARA BAREILLE’S “BRAVE”. i am not a lady gaga fan, but applause is way better. catchy but with smart, original lyrics.
