Claudia has had a recurring role on the CW series Hart of Dixie for the past two seasons, but she is moving on to the new Fox comedy Surviving Jack, which will debut mid-season.

JJ: Congratulations on your first movie, Kick-Ass 2! Could you tell us about your character?

CL: Thank you so much! I play Brooke, a nemesis to Hit-Girl aka Mindy. She’s a very manipulative teenage girl that soon realizes there’s something different about Mindy. Brooke is the ultimate queen bee and she doesn’t want anyone to steal her limelight. Once she realizes there is something unique about Mindy; even more special than her own self, that’s when the tables turn and the claws come out. It’s a pretty exciting relationship between Mindy and Brooke and I’m thrilled to see the fans reaction to the scenes!

JJ: Did you have any fight scenes? Any cool stunts? Any injuries?

CL: I have a very unique “fight scene” with Chloe in this film. I believe that people won’t be expecting it, which makes it even more of a surprise! This scene had a lot of special effects and it took time getting used to using the props and being comfortable with them. I also had to learn a very intense choreographed dance and after three days of rehearsal my knees were trashed. The makeup team had to work on my bruises during almost every take.

JJ: What was your favorite part of filming?

CL: It’s difficult to narrow it down and choose my favorite part of filming because this is my first feature film, and I had such a wonderful time creating this character and bringing it to life! I would have to say besides working with Chloe and having a blast filming our scenes, I loved working with Jeff Wadlow. He’s truly an amazing director that is so passionate about his work. It’s infectious! I will never forget the wonderful memories that I made while working on this film.

JJ: Do you have a favorite off screen moment from shooting?

CL: My favorite off screen moment (without spoiling the film) would have been during the filming our “fight” scene. We literally had to shoot this scene in segments but the goal was that each segment would only be one take. The purpose for shooting each segment in one take was time and the clean up. That whole day was pretty much high energy and it was awesome! Also when you have four teenage girls together, it’s impossible to avoid the fact that we’re all going to get loud and joke around.

JJ: Fave prop from set?

CL: Brooke’s bedroom is a shrine made to idolize her. She’s vain and basks in her beauty and power. Russell De Rozario, our insanely talented production designer wanted to create Brooke’s bedroom to have an “Ice Princess” vibe. The colors, the photos, it’s all in your face and there is something above her bed; you can’t miss it! That was my favorite prop on set.

JJ: Hart of Dixie recently started back into production. What’s your involvement going to be this season?

CL: My involvement this season unfortunately won’t be as intense as last season. I’m definitely returning to the show, but Magnolia will be more of a pleasant surprise rather than carrying on with her usual mischief.

JJ: How did you catch the acting bug?

CL: As a child, I knew that I wanted to act. I would constantly ask my parents why I wasn’t on TV and when we were going to move to “Hollywood”. I believe when you know that you’re destined to create something, it is only a matter of time for it to take place. Thankfully I have amazing parents who support and believe in me, otherwise I wouldn’t be here today. They keep me grounded with their honesty and it’s refreshing to have people surrounding you that you can trust!

JJ: Tell us about Surviving Jack. What’s your character like?

CL: I have to pinch myself because I’m so blessed to be working on such an amazing project like Surviving Jack. There is just such a positive energy that surrounds the whole project that makes me anxious to begin production! Surviving Jack takes place in the 90’s and it follows the story of a man becoming a father, and a son becoming a man, in a time when “coming of age” was something that you couldn’t Google. Rachel Dunlevy is the girl who has done everything right. She achieves in school, makes all of the right choices, and listens to her parents. That all changes once she is no longer under the watchful eye of her mother and her father begins to take on the role of the parent in charge. Rachel takes advantage of her father’s lack of comprehension to the ‘teenage girl mind’ and explores what it’s like to push the limits.

JJ: What has been the most memorable off-camera moment you’ve had?

CL: We were filming late at night on Hart of Dixie, and we all were extremely ‘slap’ happy. This was around the time when it was flu season too, and we were trying to get this one shot and all of the sudden Jaime, Laura Bell, and myself we all just started cracking up for no apparent reason. It was infectious because then everyone began laughing. After the major laugh attack we all just went back to filming.

JJ: You also sing. How would you describe your own sound?

CL: I’ve been singing from a very young age and it’s something that I truly enjoy. I believe it is such a powerful art form that incorporates mood and melody. It’s captivating and so honest. Growing up, my parents always had amazing music playing through our house so perhaps that is what sparked my interest of singing and songwriting. As an artist you grow, and I’m learning so much about my sound and what I want to sing and write about. I’m enjoying taking risks and pushing myself as an artist and that’s what I’m doing now. I’m writing and working with many different people to explore my sound and create something new.

JJ: Who are your musical influences?

CL: With music I believe that you can get inspiration from anything. That’s what I love about song writing. It’s so innocent and real that a song could be created while watching a film or talking to a friend. I love listening to Patti Smith and Bob Dylan. Their work inspires me to push myself and to write about my feelings. I also enjoy listening to Lana Del Rey because her work is like poetry and cinematic scores mixed together. I often catch myself listening to one of her records in pure amazement by how beautiful the music melodies are.

JJ: Would you make a record one day? What kind?

CL: I would love to make another record one day, but when I’m not sure. I’m rediscovering myself as an artist and I want to create work that I’m happy with and that I feel is the best quality. So at the moment, I’m focusing on writing and just having fun creating music that is somewhat out of my comfort zone. I’m having a blast and that’s the most important thing is to have fun doing what you love to do!
