Lindsay Lohan's Oprah Interview: Admits Addiction & Cocaine Use

Lindsay Lohan‘s candid interview with Oprah Winfrey has finally aired on Sunday (August 18), revealing details of her past drug use and future as an actor and recovering alcoholic.

“I’m an addict,” the 27-year-old actress said of alcohol. “That, in the past, was a gateway to other things for me. I tried cocaine with alcohol,” she added, but explained that she did not enjoy using cocaine. “I never felt good the next day…it allowed me to drink more. It was a party thing. People would have it, and I’d do it.”

“Having all the chaos around me that I was so comfortable with, I somewhere inside knew I wanted to go to jail,” Lindsay said about needing help. “And I think that that was subconsciously being put out there just by my actions, or lack thereof.”

When asked if she was addicted to chaos, Lindsay said, “I think so. Yeah, it was a comfortable choice to me. What was chaotic to other people in the outside looking in was normal. There is something to be said about me learning to be comfortable with things just being OK.”

“[I'm ready] to get the thing that has made me happiest my whole life back, which is to work really hard, stay focused and prove myself,” Lindsay said about looking to the future. “I have to regain trust in people, in my career, that had doubts, and I fully respect that on their behalf. As long as I stay honest in myself and do the work I’m willing to do and have been willing to do and am doing, then nothing can stand in my way. I am my own worst enemy, and I know that.”

She’s finally admitted her addiction, so it’s the first step to getting better. But actions always speak louder than words. They speak volumes. Until her actions mirror her words, until she’s tested and manages to overcome those demons without succumbing to alcohol or drugs, then others might trust in her again. She’s got a hard road ahead of her…regaining people’s trust. Hope she makes it.

I agree with @ Jones. I’m glad she went to rehab and is admitting her problems. But she’s surrounded by people who enable her (her mother included), and she needs to take responsibility for her actions.

I truly love Lindsay. She has been my favorite since Parent Trap. I know I wasn’t the only one that was a fan of hers and was quite disappointed when this all came to the light. I feel like she is worth so much more & she deserves better. I hope she gets better & overcomes this obstacle because I wouldn’t wanna lose her so young.

Oprah is a phony. Addiction is a false doctrine. For example, people who repent from drug abuse are no longer “addicts”.

    mellow Says:

She admitted it, for the first time in her life. That is good and that is the first step to get better.
But if she doesn’t want to be in chaos anymore, if she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight (which, automatically causes chaos) then she should leave behind LA and all this stressful, sick life she was living it. This is the only thing which could help her.
Staying in the spotlight, giving thousands of interviews, go out with the same old friends partying and staying in the whole hollywood environment will NOT help her.
She should get rid of the attention, because it seems like she is still addicted to it.
That would be the only way to stay sober.

    Good luck Lindsay.

@wonderland: I agree with every word you say. I believe her too. I have never ever heard her not blame someone else or something before and she’s taking full responsibility accept, I DO believe her parents are as responsible too and I hope she’s been advised to keep them at a distance.

    Love The Shoes Says:

@S: You may have listened but your failed to hear. She IS taking responsibility for her life and one way is by admitting to herself truths about “herself.” We have no business telling her what she needs to do. She already knows. Why can’t people stop being judgmental and just wish her well without the “but” attached to it?
