    They are both wonderful. So I am not sure why one would be excited that Marion Cotillard replaced Natalie Portman in this role. Marion might be a bit of a better actress then Natalie. But who cares this film will only fine a small audience anyway,

  • alaia

    @dddff: Probably because Natalie is not that great, and her playing the scheming, manipulative Lady MacBeth would’ve been laughable. She can only do Black Swan type roles.

  • Mary

    Huge upgrade in my opinion. Not enamored with Natalie Portman’s acting in the least.

  • Seraphine

    YES WE ARE! Marion is super talented, super beautiful and super nice person. I just love her. So, yes, I am very excited and I can’t wait to see her in this movie with Michael Fassbender!

  • Gigi

    They wised up and realized Natalie Portman is majorly overrated. Not much of a Cotillard fan, but anyone but NP will do.

  • Everhart

    LOL! Portman really wants to be Keira so bad. She needed a good period piece under her belt, other than being the other boleyn girl

  • well

    Great news!

  • Kelly

    betting Portman is pregnant!

  • Rachel

    Portman is busy doing Thor 3.

  • sally

    @Mary . I completely concur . Most of today’s young A-list movie stars are not classically trained , and I can always notice their acting weaknesses . I see it in Portman , Jennifer Lawrence , Ashton Kutcher , Scarlett Johansson , Brad Pitt , the wooden Channing Tatum , etc….

    I saw a live production of Henry V with Jude Law , and he was marvelous ( he is a very underrated actor ) . Also, I saw a live production of Shakespeare In The Park’s Twelfth Night with Anne Hathaway and Hamish Linklater , and they both were very good .

  • Bebe

    @Rachel:Why was little whiney jewish girl cast in this role to begin with?

  • sally

    @Rachel. Stop making excuses. Thor 3 is not filming. They just finished Thor 2 .

  • Michelle

    So great! Marion, love u!

  • Danae

    Ouch. I hope they will also apply this rule as it comes to the upcoming Marvel movies.

    Much better choice. Portman is too young, and her voice is undeveloped. Cotillard has more range.

  • Ruth

    @alaia:

    That is a really unfair comment. Natalie has given some amazing performances throughout the years and is an excellent actress.

    Obviously Marion is very talented though I have seen her give some rather mediocre performances. Hopefully she will be an excellent Lady Macbeth, especially because she is much older. Natalie looks far too young for the part.

  • Ruth

    @Bebe:

    Why don’t you wash your mouth out with soap, you disgusting racist!

  • Ruth

    @Everhart:

    “Be Keira” – nice one. Especially since Portman has about 100% more talent than Keira who can only give one performance which is constantly repeated from film to film.

  • Marla

    @Seraphine:

    How do you know she is so nice? Yes, she is an amazing actress but she has made some very anti-American comments on various occasions. Lucky she has such good PR people to cover up her political opinions.

  • sally

    @Ruth . I always see Natalie Portman acting . Great acting is never seeing the thespian act . It has to always feel real . That is why training is important .

  • QueenOfTrashin

    “That play”, JJ, “that play”. The name is never spoken in theatre circles.

  • SunnyAutumn

    She should’ve been the first choice. Marion looks the part.

  • yuck

    Marion is so much prettier and more talented than that ugly Jew. Truth is, the only reason Portman is famous is because she’s Jewish. Those people disgust me.

  • Mel

    A french playing a scottish? Hell no.

  • Dee

    @yuck:

    Racist much? Talk about disgusting….Yuck you take the yuck-cake!

  • Yuck

    @Dee: Jews are not a race you dum wit! and nothing you say or do will make me like your disgusting big-nosed, ugly kind!

  • really?

    I don´t care if she is jew or not, I just don´t like her and even less her acting. She is just fake to me, she has been pushed into this buisness with fake name etc. She has never managed to get talent or a sense for acting like Scarlett J. or Kirsten D.

  • fredli

    Good choice. Portman acting is limited, and she can’t do scottish/british/irish if anyone has seen The Other Bolyen girl.
    Not to mention Natalie looks like a a teenger, and she is only 5ft 2. Lady Macbeth should be average height or tall.
    I bet this hurt her ego.

  • Sarah

    Marion is a great actress. She’ll make it worth watching.

  • UrsTruly

    Iv seen most of Natalie Portman movies… And I noticed everytime she has a crying scene She makes the ugliest squirmy face as if she’s trying to take a hard dump. I think she tries really hard to make it look genuine but it looks fake… Then again she mentioned once she never cries in real life. I call Marion for the part :)
    T

  • Everhart

    @UrsTruly: She is not worthy of royalty type roles, or most any role requiring decent range and a crying scene.

  • Everhart

    @Ruth: Natalie is twice the actress Keira is? LMAO. I take it you’ve seen star wars episodes 1-3? Keira should have been queen amidala the ENTIRE TIME

  • fake

    Portman is fugly. She looks like an adult stuck in a 10 year old girl’s body. The 5-head is ginormous. She can’t act to save her life. Her personality also sux – she’s sooooo fake!
    Whatever happened to her pure virgin-like image she tried to hard to fake? She got knocked up by her ballerina boyfriend and then had a shot gun wedding. The worst hores are the ones who pretend to be virgins, and Natalie is one of them. Plus, we all know she spent a heck of a lot of time on a casting couch with producers in order to get roles.

  • Vepoa

    @sally:

    “Ashton Kutcher , Scarlett Johansson , Brad Pitt , the wooden Channing Tatum”

    These are far from being A-list stars! But yes, none of them can act.

  • Vepoa

    Honestly though, while Marion is a good (not great) actor, her voice is just awful. It distracts you when you’re trying to enjoy the film. She’s so cute though, so it’s a pity.

  • scottie

    @Vepoa: I’d have to agree, and even KK’s voice would not be right for this (too light British, not hard Scottish). I’ve heard Natalie do a few different accents in her films, she of course isn’t always perfect but of the three I have a feeling she would pull off the hard Scottish best.

  • scottie

    @Everhart: There I think you are totally wrong. The role required a combination of regal composure with a kind of plebeian compassion. Personally I really liked Natalie for the role in the star wars presequals.

  • Lily

    I screamed when i saw this news! omg I love Natalie but Marion is going to be wonderful in this role! omg cant wait to see her with Michael!

  • Bebe

    @scottie: You want a jewish runt playing a scot? She can stick to Ann Frank. Or Hellen Keller.

  • Natalie, like most American jews, is an Ashkenazi jew. And scientifically there is no such thing as “race” so you could very well claim jews (askhenazi) are a race since “race” technically does not exist. Variations of the human exterior exists but that is as far as it goes most of the time, and sure there are some diseases and mutations that are more common in certain regions but that is all. We are more alike than we are different.

  • Valentina

    This is going to be ONE HELL OF A MOVIE, with Marion and Fassbender!

  • Sarah

    @Marla: Shut up! Marion never did anti-american comments! When she won the Oscar, americans were so jealous of her that they had to take her comments out of context to make people hate her! She just said she had doubts about what really happened on 9/11 (many people around the world have doubts about it too!), is anti-american to have doubts? Come on!
    @Mel: “A french playing a scottish? Hell no.” – And Michael Fassbender is irish! so what? Hollywood IS ALWAYS making movies with american actors playing characthers from different nationalities, speaking english with american accent and no one cares about it!

  • Sarah

    @really?: “She has never managed to get talent or a sense for acting like Scarlett J” – Are you kidding, right? lol
    Since when Scarlett has sense for acting?! she only has the sense for showing her silicon boobs!

  • Kelly

    BRILLIANT CHOICE.

    Marion is a GREAT actress and I just dont see Portman as McBeth besides I think Portman is a bit overrated.

    Love me some Marion!

  • Lindiwe

    @yuck:

    and moronic racists like you disgust most people

  • Mary

    I like Natalie but Marion is a far better actress! she is a great choice to play Lady Macbeth!
    A curious fact: Ian McKellen (Magneto in X-Men) played Macbeth in 1979, and now Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men First Class) will play Macbeth too! lol

  • Julie

    Marion and Fassbender together it’s amazing! I can’t wait to see this movie!

  • Jane

    @Vepoa: “Honestly though, while Marion is a good (not great) actor, her voice is just awful” – Have you seen her in A Very Long Engagement? where she stole every scene and had a more interesting character than Audrey Tautou who was the lead! or La Vie en Rose? or Rust and Bone? and even Inception? she was great in those movies! and yes, she is a GREAT ACTRESS, not “good” like you said!
    Btw, Marion already changed her voice for a movie! she did that in La Vie en Rose, this is not a problem! :D

  • Chris

    Great news! I love Marion and Fassbender!
