Wentworth Miller Talks Suicide: 'I Tried to Kill Myself at 15'

Wentworth Miller speaks out about his past attempt at suicide as the special guest speaker at a dinner for the Human Rights Campaign on Saturday (September 7) in Seattle, Wash.

“The first time I tried to kill myself, I was 15,” the 41-year-old Prison Break actor said. “I waited until my family went away for the weekend. I was alone and I swallowed a bottle of pills. I don’t remember what happened over the next couple of days, but I’m pretty sure come Monday, I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine.”

“When someone asks me if that was a cry for help, I say no. Because I’ve told no one. You only cry for help if you believe there is help to calm you. And I didn’t need it, I wanted out… at 15,” he added.

Wentworth publicly came out as a gay man last month while denying an invitation from a film festival in Russia.

What an inspiration! I wonder what made him decide to do this. One thing I must continue to remind myself is to never give up!

I’m a 35 year old post-op transgender female who after becoming a woman I completely live what is known as ‘deep stealth’ among our community, no one knows about me that is currently in my life. I came out as a gay boy at 15, and lived that way 15-20 years old, when I started to transition from male to female I was abandoned by everyone in the gay community. So I was a fish out of water, had a few surgeries done, and became flawlessly passable and assimilated into the straight world (after all, all my personal documents, including my birth certificate now read female), so I only dated straight men (because gay people wouldn’t have ANYTHING to do with me). I was married and divorced to my soul mate for SIX years, he didn’t have any idea, he wanted children and a family, and I couldn’t provide that for him for obvious reasons. But at the beginning when he proposed I told him I would never, ever, EVER want children… so I didn’t lead him on in that regard. I also am the daughter of a white father and black mother, but look completely 110% white. So I really, REALLY relate to Wentworth’s struggles with race and sexuality. I really hope one day being trans is more acceptable, because I don’t fit ANY of the stereotypes one would think goes along with it. I wish so badly I could speak to Wentworth Miller, I’m not into celebrity adulation, nor do I want money, fame, etc, he is an awesome person that would make an amazing super private friend, as that’s my personality as well. A girl can dream… -Danielle

A bit too much drama at his age. But kudos up to a certain point. Isn’t he involved in the mankind project now?

The only surprise is that he’s 41. He looks amazing. But when you think that he was over 30 when 1st season of Prison Break started and he looked almost like a kid, and being in his late 20s when Human Stain was shot and looking like a teen… Good genes. Just hope he hasn’t given up acting career for good. Screenwriting’s fine and he’s a talented intelligent man but also a brilliant actor. Go back to acting, Went.

IMDB is down in many places, has been for hours. Can’t read pm’s from my friends. (If you read this Wenty you know why i don’t reply to your pm’s!)
