Lily Collins: 'Mortal Instruments' Sequel Delayed

Lily Collins makes her exit out of LAX Airport on Tuesday evening (September 10) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old actress had been set to film the sequel to The Mortal Instruments later this year, but now production has been delayed.

It was recently announced by Constantin Film that principal photography on the sequel, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, has been postponed indefinitely, due to box office numbers of the first film.

“Constantin Film has a long tradition of adapting books to the big screen. Pushing back the start of production of City of Ashes was a decision we did not take lightly,” producer and exec Martin Moszkowicz said in a statement. “After speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place.”

FYI: Lily is carrying a Zadig & Voltaire bag.

by delayed they mean waiting to see if dvd sales will be high enough to warrant a lower budget sequel and if not, this thing is done

I feel that in this case delayed is code for cancelled.

No, it is not cancelled. The script was not finished and it was far from the books so they decided (probably due to complaints on changes in the film) to somewhat re-do the script. I’m a TMI fan and I actually loved the first film (it wasn’t perfect but I’ve seen worse adaptions) and actually think this will be a good thing for the films so they can correct some things they previously got wrong, especially the marketing team. I just feel bad for the cast and how this will mess up their schedules and it’s probably a disappointment as they’ve been anticipating going back to Toronto to film again. Either way, Lily looks gorgeous as usual even just in a casual outfit and after a flight :)

Lily looks so gorgeous even after a long flight. I love her wrap-jacket .

I’m a big Lily Collins fan but I knew City of Bones would bomb just like The Host and Beautiful Creatures so I’m not surprised by the delay/ cancellation. The production company were idiots to greenlight a sequel before the first movie was released. It’s sad for the cast and crew who worked hard on this but Cassandra Clare is a plagiarising hack and her books are derivative rubbish so it’s no surprise a movie based on her work underperformed.

I didn’t expect to, but I actually liked the movie. Intersting story, good actors, great SGI, and one pretty brilliant action scene(the one with the vampires). Everyone in the theatre seemed to enjoy it, and I left feeling impressed and excited. I hope they don’t cancel it.

I love how Lily doesn’t feel the need to get a tan or pluck her eyebrows thin like a lot of other people in Hollywood. She looks good the way she is. I like her naturally fair complexion & her thicker brows… They’re more natural and suit her. She looks good in these pics… I actually think she looks better when she doesn’t have a lot of eye makeup on (I wish she would wear less eye makeup more often). As for the film, I kind of hope the do make a sequel. The film is not as bad as some critics say! It is very fast paced and stuff, so some people may not be able to get everything, but it is interesting and fun to watch. Its better than that horror remake Evil Dead – and that got better reviews from critics, but it wasn’t scary at all and didn’t even entertain me. So I guess different movies work for different people.

The book was better than the movie. but regardless, I was hoping they would go through with the sequel. This book series is far better than Twilight, and it deserves to made into a movie. Its a shame that the first one didn’t do very well. I guess we don’t get to meet Sebastian, her real brother. =(

As someone who never read the books or even heard of the series before, I loved the movie and in fact have seen it three times already. I am so disappointed, especially for the cast who worked so hard. They were brilliant and I was really looking forward to City of Ashes. Hopefully it’s just on hold and not cancelled.

They need to rework the script. They need to seriously rework the script and tell the story more effectively. Make it smoother and make things less difficult to understand, while fixing the the things they left out or eff-ed up in the first movie.
