Leonardo DiCaprio: Woodrow Wilson Biopic Star & Producer!

Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in a Woodrow Wilson biopic, based on A. Scott Berg’s new book “Wilson,” according to Variety!

The 38-year-old actor will also be producing with Jennifer Davisson Killoran on the project, which does not have any other actors attached yet.

The flick will center on Woodrow Wilson, who became president after winning the election in 1912, and oversaw the U.S. joining the Allies in World War I. After the war, he pushed for a peace treaty that would have the U.S. joining the League of Nations but the senate refused to ratify the treaty.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Leonardo DiCaprio starring in a Woodrow Wilson biopic?

    I’ll repost what I said in the previous thread:
    I’m becoming more positive Leo WON’T end up starring in this. Maybe produce it, but that’s it. He’s been reported to produce atleast 2 other biopics this year(Rasputin being one of them) as well as starring in atleast 4 different projects(Jamie Foxx cop movie) and yet we have no real confirmation on any of them. And I really think after the flop of the J. Edgar film with the critics he has learned his lesson maybe to stay away from the Oscar baity biopics for awhile. Man, when will there be a REAL confirmation on his next project? Because personally I really hope it’s not this project or the Rasputin biopic. I’m really nervous one of them will end up being though..

  • YES!!!!

    Great news! Another historic biopic for Leo and it’s going to be fantastic, I’m sure:):).

  • Leo as a US President

    Thanks Jared. I wonder what happened to the Theodore Roosevelt movie project he was supposed to be attached to a couple of years ago.

  • Sasha

    Congrats for another great role, LEO!

    Hey Zzzz where are you? Wanna know your thoughts on this, I have a feeling you might be in the same camp as me. I’m hoping he just ends up producing this instead of starring..

  • Franklin

    I would rather see a Philip Dru: Administrator movie.

  • Laura

    Risk a little Leo

  • also…

    I was surprised ( not in a good way ) to see this post. Another biopic? After Django and WOWS I thought he will continue to change it up a bit… I hoped he will do Devil in the White City and now it`s… Woodrow Wilson.

  • HAHA12

    @also…:
    Exactly, which is why I am not really buying this piece of news. I know it’s been reported, but wasn’t he reported to play Frank Sinatra, Teddy Roosevelt years ago, and recently Rasputin and yet we never heard anything about those former projects again? And so far no word on the Rasputin biopic either. I feel like he’s only going to be producing this, I remember on BZ someone posted a tweet that WB is also planning to make Satori with Leo starring very soon. He’s been attached to a dozen different projects and yet no real word on anything so far. Really would prefer the Viking biopic or The Devil In The White City. Another Oscar baity biopic is NO, imo. I really hope this news isn’t true, otherwise he’ll just be disappointed come awards season again. These roles are meant for actors like Daniel Day Lewis or somebody, not Leo.

  • Zzzzzz

    @HAHA12: I’m here! Would have to agree with you. Also, like you said, he has so many projects that he is attached to. Remember, two months ago he was confirmed for Rasputin. Even though I haven’t seen a lot of Leo’s movies (I’m slowly seeing them!), it seems to me movie this is similar to his other movies. With Django and WOWS it appeared he was taking baby steps toward more edgy roles and getting out of his comfort zone. I’m hoping he does Devil in the White City before this.

  • HAHA12

    @Zzzzzz:
    Hey did you get to watch Catch Me If You Can, thoughts on it?? :p And agreed, I really don’t know what to believe anymore in regards to whatever he plans to star in and I hope this is not his next project. I mean look at what he has in development:

    Legacy of Secrecy
    Mean Business on North Ganson Street
    Satori
    Travis McGee
    Untitled Filmauro/Truman Capote Project
    Portofino
    Beat the Reaper
    Akira
    Aquaman
    Atari
    Brave New World
    Conspiracy of Fools
    Fleming
    Gorbachev
    Harker
    King Harald
    Ninja Scroll
    Rasputin
    Running Out of Dog
    The Chancellor Manuscript
    The Devil in the White City
    The Infiltrator
    The Island of Dr. Moreau
    The Many Deaths of Barnaby James
    The NeverEnding Story
    The Road Home
    The Shining Girls
    Untitled Animal Poaching Project
    Untitled Twilight Zone Project

    @HAHA12: I’m actually going to watch it when I finish my dinner. I’ll let you know what I think after it’s over.

    @also…:

    I’m with you guys. I hope he just produces this Wilson biopic. You know for someone who doesn’t get into the politics of winning an Oscar he sure does pick the movies that would be nominated for oscars.

  • Leo’s fantasy soulmate

    Oh the suspense of which movie is next . So excited that Leo has so many options. Leo, please make sure I can stay awake and its not a sleeper.

  • HAHA12

    @Zzzzzz:
    Oh alright enjoy the movie then :) I’m out for now, see ya.
    @####:
    I do think he really wants an Oscar, but he doesn’t want to play the game to win one. He wants the role/performance to speak for itself i guess. But a big history buff like him should publish articles or produce a TV series about an important historical figure instead of trying to play the actual people I think. I think it’s cool how he interested he is in these historical figures but he’s really going to regret taking this role if he ever does. Sounds like J. Edgar #2. Leo, just don’t do it. The ‘he’s so desperate for an Oscar’ comments have already came back with this piece of news.

    Leonardo DiCaprio is playing Woodrow Wilson? JUST GIVE HIM THE OSCAR SO HE DOES A COMEDY.

    I guess we’re not the only one who doesn’t want him to take this role.

    WHERE IS LUKAS!?

    One of Toni’s model friends madison stephens posted a pic of toni on the Hudson River running path so she is still in NYC. I guess she’s not doing the VS Xmas commercial.

  • @####

    Looks like Leo’s latest barely legal catalogue selection is putting her career on hold so she can act as the “official willing obedient puppy of the season”. Like the others before and like the ones to come.
    Anyway, thanks Jared for the news of Leo’s probable new movie project.

  • http://@kulsuzi34 ####

    @@####:

    I think she knows if she doesn’t he’ll stray! LOL

    I just can’t believe a girl who is 21 years old would put her modeling on hold for a guy who’s almost twice her age.

  • http://@kulsuzi34 ####

    @HAHA12:

    Not all the tweets are positive for this movie.

  • Zzzzzz

    @HAHA12 & @Léonie: Good movie. It’s really nice to see him in a light movie where he doesn’t die! Most of his movies of late have a very heavy theme. He shows versatility and good comedic timing. You’re right HAHA12 – he definitely can do comedy and should. Love the scene where he and Amy are making out and they call his name over the PA. Hopefully if WOWS gets good reviews, then he will take more chances. Which movie would you recommend next to see – Gilbert or Boy’s life?
    @####: Maybe Toni wasn’t ask to do the VS commercial since she isn’t a regular. I know she wasn’t in last years Xmas commercial. If she is turning down jobs to stay close to Leo, then she’s being incredibly foolish. Also, it seems Leo is not the kind of guy that wants a clingy girlfriend around 24/7. It’s like he can handle that for awhile and then he has enough and will take off and leave the gf behind and go party with just his buds.

  • Léonie

    Omg no. This was obviously NOT what I was expecting after of all the exciting projects he was rumored to play in. Geez Leo. Not another historical biopic. I swear he’s gonna prove everyone right who say he’s desperate for an Oscar. Just no.

  • Zzzzzz

    @HAHA12: Also, re CMIYC – when he is in the classroom and he takes charge as the substitute teacher was wonderful the way you see him transform. Great story – it’s amazing that it is actually true.

  • Zzzzzz

    @Léonie: You know everyone says that, but I don’t think he really is. He would be campaigning and butt kissing if he wanted an Oscar that bad. But he never does that. I think he picks those movies because he is comfortable playing in them. But, who knows if and when it will be made – remember he’s supposedly signed to star in Rasputin. Still hoping for Devil in the White City to be up next – such a great book – it will be interesting to see how they shoot it. Hey Lady – I finally figured out how to put the accent mark over the e! hehehehe!

  • Léonie

    @Z: Heyy! Yeah I know I don’t think he is desperate. I think he wants one (who doesn’t?) but he isn’t desperate, but a lot of people are going to see it like that. I remember the critics being so harsh on him in that regard when he did J. Edgar. They were really convinced Leo did that movie only because he was desperate for an Oscar. I agree with you I think he feels comfortable in these characters. They’re somewhat risk-free and Leo is used to them. So yeah. Here’s hoping he’ll end up just producing it. I am really looking forward to see something unexpected from Leo.
    The accent. I remember I started posting here without the accent on my e haha! It was totally fine without as well though. ;)
    Oh and good to hear you liked Catch Me If You Can. How adorable, charming and hilarious is Frank Jr?
    I’m gonna catch this thread later today. Goodnight to you I guess? xo

  • Page Six sighting

    ”Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington and Miranda Kerr in the audience during previews of “Romeo and Juliet,” starring Orlando Bloom . . .”

  • Zzzzzz

    @Léonie: Frank Jr. was charming and sweet! Catch ya later – Have a great day! xo
    @Page Six: I believe this was from Friday night. (Or what ever day he was at Coney Island!) There were several tweets about seeing him there.

  • HAHA12

    Hey Zzzz I’m glad you liked Catch Me If You Can :) It’s a great and hilarious movie, and yes Leo needs to more comedy ASAP.
    @####:
    I figured this would get a mixed response, I wonder if Leo’s people may be aware of this. If word gets to him I hope it convinces him NOT to do this role. Again, I find it hard to believe after starring in Django and WOWS, both of his riskiest roles in awhile, he’d go immediately back to Oscar bait? He’s always being ‘reported’ to play like 5 different roles every few months but never ends up doing them so I don’t know, I really am not sure this will be his next project. Remember back in 2010 he was reported by Variety and other websites to play the lead in The Devil In The White City and it’s been almost 4 years and so far that project hasn’t even been discussed by him.

  • @Page Six Sighting

    So are we going to see a tweet from Toni soon telling the world that she was there, too?

  • @#30

    Possibly. People were surprised she didn’t tweet about it right after but back then only people who follow sightings on JJ or BZ knew he went. Now it’s become news via P6 so I think we can expect a tweet. Lol.

  • @31

    I bet there was a reason why her friend put up a photo of her in NYC yesterday. All the FW parties are over and she is not mentioned anywhere just like Leo. I just think she works the social media to get attention.

  • http://@kulsuzi34 ####

    @HAHA12:

    I wish we had a definite project that he’s going to start filming in 2014.

  • .
  • Usually when both Variety and Hollywood Reported confirm a movie project with an actor starring in it, it happens to be reliable.
    So go for it, Leo!
    After all these news and pictures reported of him dating another barely legal blonde obedient puppy, it is such refreshing news.

  • .

    @: It is rather dissappointing to be honest. After being predictable in his personal life Leo also continues his predictability in his professional life. It would’ve been a refreshement if it wasn’t a biopic AGAIN. Zero excitement for this movie to be quite frank.

  • also…

    It seems like it`s confirmed. Bummer! His professional life is just as predictable as his personal life and not in a positive way. He is becoming incredibly boring on and off screen. It seemed like he was changing it up a big with Django and WOWS but apparently that was enough of an adventure and now we are back to boring and to Oscar chase. I`m not looking forward to this movie at all. He said he was a `history buff`. Ok, we get it. You like history and yo want an Oscar but this is just another letdown.

  • ####

    @also…:

    I agree. One tweet I read last night likened it to Lincoln which obviously won Daniel Day Lewis an Oscar for lead actor and received several nominations.

    This is so frustrating to hear that he’s going to take on this role. I don’t know why he keeps sticking with safe and predictable because it gets him nowhere.

  • also…

    @####: He may not be willing to play the game in the Oscar race and kiss a** but picking his projects so he can get nominated won`t help him either. It`s becoming desperate. Scorsese movies, Eastwood with Hoover and now this again? He should let it go and just do movies for the love of making movies and that`s when he would get it. JMO. I don`t like where his professional life is going ( not to mention his love life ). He is such a letdown.
    I liked that tweet that said just give him an Oscar already so he can do a comedy!

  • .

    If I’m correct that was Day-Lewis’ first biopic which won him not his first but 3rd Osar because Day-Lewis is so versatile he can play anything and everything and never plays the same characters. With this Leo just proves again he doesn’t want to get off his regular predictable and safe track

  • vagabond

    I hate to rag on Leo’s movie role choices,but is he trying to bore us?I can already feel the sleep coming on.lol!I was really starting to get into the Viking movie idea.I’m planning on reading Devil in the white city and the shinning girls,looks like I’ll plenty of time to finish those.lol!
    @ZZzzzz watch This boy’s life first then Gilbert grape.Hey, no mention of R&J?That was my Leo movie plus GGrape, till the movies from the 2000′s came out.

  • ####

    @also…:

    LOL I read that tweet last night too and so agree with it!

    I get that he likes working with these great directors but come on. He seriously needs to spice it up a bit! He’s nearing 40 and he’s stuck doing the same thing over and over again in his personal life and his professional life.

    If he even wants to compete with these other great actors, he’s got to stop sticking with the safe movies that are comparable to what he’s done in the past. Ugh….he’s got to break out of this rut! :-(

  • LOL

    @vagabond:
    Agreed. I would have thought with more exciting guns around Leo’s age being provocative or exciting in their choices Fassbender, Gosling, Ijiwere Leo would break the mould and do something out there. More supporting roles. Work with an auteuer or hell, a director no one has ever heard of but its not likley to happen. Even female BFF Kate Winslet who rocketed to fame with Titanic has been far more risk prone with her choices in both in TV & movies and has the awards to show for it. Le Sigh

  • Missy

    There are so many projects which Leo is brought into connection in the last years/months/weeks (most of them are from Warner) I’m very curious which one he chooses… or whether it is something completely different!

  • Vera

    Gee..he gives new meaning to insecurity. If I wouldn’t know he is actually incredibly talented I would put him in the same category as Jason Statham and Bruce Willis like one-note ”actors” who always play the same persons in the same kind of movies. Why so insecure? A little bit of challenge won’t hurt, Leo. It didn’t hurt with Django Unchained, did it? Or should we blame the Oscar snub for Django that you’re back to picking these kind of stories? Shame.

  • @all

    maybe this was the reason it was quiet around Leo in regards of sightings. cos he was busy finalizing the negotiations of this movie.

  • So

    The Viking movie is out and Woodrow is in? Kind of dissapointed but I’m sure it’ll still be worth seeing.

  • LOL

    @@all:
    Its been quiet around Leo before. He can finalise a deal by phone, he does not need to take a week out to do it.

  • also…

    Maybe it’s a new strategy. Bore the members of the Acadeny to give him an Oscar. So far I always felt how much he loved movies and making movies. Now it feels like how much he would love a statue. Similar characters, historic backgroubd, big name directors. He us not taking chances. So Django and WOWS were a breath of fresh air and now back to predictable.

  • LOL

    @Vera:
    Its that insecurity which means he has to take himself so seriously in all aspects and can never cut loose except when he’s in a nightclub. It’s the same insecurity which saw him snub promo for the film that gave him worldwide fame because as his pal put it ‘he’s so above that now’. And its the same insecurity that shows hell will freeze over before Leo works with a director on an introductory level, a new face with a different dimension rather than those who are already acclaimed or already showered with awards. NOTHING wrong with working with the best but after 20 years why not try to find more diamond in the rough work or do a projects where you don’t frown and then die?
