“I’m very excited to meet [Prince Harry]. I’ll be with my U.S. teammates at the South Pole welcoming him,” Alexander recently told People about his upcoming South Pole race against the British royal. “I’ll be happy to see him when he arrives. We will be there first though!”

You can tell he has been training because his biceps are so much more defined. I wonder if his hiking trip to Iceland was really a training trip? He is yummy!!!

    Losers Says:

Why are no Americans doing this trek? Why has it taken a Swede to step in for “Team USA”? Shame on you…

  10. 10
    Alliana Says:

@Losers: Four American wounded in war soldiers are doing the trek. Therese Frenz, air force, is walking for wounded female soldiers. Mark Wise, army,is an amputee and victim of burns. Margaux Mange was hit by an IED while serving the US as a gunner in Baghdad. Ivan Castro, was the first blind graduate of the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Are these four American enough for you? Wounded enough? Alex is ex-Swedish military and went through boot camp for Generation Kill. He knows how to train and understands the military. And the team is happy to have him. As Ivan said: “Now that we have Alex to complete our team I am confident we are on our way. Alex is genuine, easy to talk to, and displayed his willingness to be a team player. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and was eager to train in order to be an asset… and an asset he will be as he is in excellent physical condition!”

@Alliana: She might be referring to why the celebrity actor for Team USA is a Swede, and not an American, not why is there no American team.
A similar question could be asked of the Commonwealth Team, consisting of Australia and Canada, and whose celebrity mentor is British.

  13. 13
    Peanut Gallery Says:

@ladybug: Er, but Australia & Canada are members of the Commonwealth of Nations

    Good Point Says:

I agree, it is not the wounded walking this trek that is being questioned here is it? It is disappointing that none of our home grown celebrities are willing or able to support their own servicemen/women. Kudos to Alexander for doing so. It does make sense, however, that a British actor would partake in the British Commonwealth team. It would be refreshing to see one of our politicians volunteering to mentor.

    Alliana Says:

@ladybug: well I think both Alex and Prince Harry, while valuable team members, have also been brought in to raise awareness of the cause which will hopefully translate into funding/donations. There aren’t that many actors or politicians that could actually find the time to train and build up the strength to complete this trek not to mention handle the cold. Alex being ex-military, Swedish and used to the cold and snow, a man who exercises a lot and a free spirit (i.e. chooses his own path) seems like a good choice for this.

    EVI Says:

If Alexander Skarsgard has something it’s time he has nothing better to do . It’s not that he will play in a movie soon

  18. 18
    Cafélady Says:

@EVI: well, a upcoming movie project to do in the next time or not – anyway, it’s great that he will join the team and gives his name, time and energy for a charity project like this. It’s not as if this would be only a walk in a summery city park…
I have to research once again, what date they announced for the shooting-start of ‘Tarzan’ – as far as I know, it was confirmed that he got that role. But may be, they postponed the start of the shootings or whatever.
Either way, it’s great that he accepted this challenge.

    Slinky the Cat Says:

Alex has two movies coming up. One begins filming at the end of this month in South Africa (where WWTW is set to start) and the other is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in May.

The giver was to be film in November for what i knew. Now has changed?

  24. 24
    ladybug Says:

@Peanut Gallery: I know that, but why couldn’t they get a Canadian or Australian celebrity to do this?

That question is in part rhetorical, it isn’t just the time, but the idea of spending nearly a month trekking across the Antarctic is probably pretty intimidating.

@Alliania: While Alex’s fitness and previous military experience are helpful, as well has having a sense of adventure, the Antarctic isn’t normal cold weather. Even Prince Harry, who’s done part of the WwtW North Pole trek, is still having to do cold weather training.

It’s not that he can’t do it or that he’s not a good choice-I’m presuming they’ve made sure that he’s mentally and physically capable of it, but this sort of trek still takes a lot of training, and that’s true for the vets as well.

And The Giver is not confirmed. If he does take the role it will be shooting in South Africa in October. And it’s a supporting role, so it wouldn’t take that long to film.

Tarzan is also not officially greenlit, but if it is the tentative start date is May 2014.

ladybug your comments about the Commonwealth team make no sense. It’s a Commonwealth team, does it really matter which part the members are from??
