Last week, the 37-year-old Swedish actor was spotted posing with a fan while taking a stroll in the Big Apple.

“I’m very excited to meet [Prince Harry]. I’ll be with my U.S. teammates at the South Pole welcoming him,” Alexander recently told People about his upcoming South Pole race against the British royal. “I’ll be happy to see him when he arrives. We will be there first though!”

    Should be an interesting trek. I wonder if he will have an Australian vacation too

  • Strange

    Hello again you gorgeous hunk of man !!

  • ladybug

    @Peanut Gallery: If he’s doing an Australian vacation it would be afterward, since they’re leaving from South Africa:

    You can tell he has been training because his biceps are so much more defined. I wonder if his hiking trip to Iceland was really a training trip? He is yummy!!!

    Miles and miles of leg porn going on here. That’s to say nothing of the arm porn, the chest porn, the neck porn…Pornapalooza up in here!

  • Losers

    Why are no Americans doing this trek? Why has it taken a Swede to step in for “Team USA”? Shame on you…

  • Alliana

    @Losers: Four American wounded in war soldiers are doing the trek. Therese Frenz, air force, is walking for wounded female soldiers. Mark Wise, army,is an amputee and victim of burns. Margaux Mange was hit by an IED while serving the US as a gunner in Baghdad. Ivan Castro, was the first blind graduate of the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Are these four American enough for you? Wounded enough? Alex is ex-Swedish military and went through boot camp for Generation Kill. He knows how to train and understands the military. And the team is happy to have him. As Ivan said: “Now that we have Alex to complete our team I am confident we are on our way. Alex is genuine, easy to talk to, and displayed his willingness to be a team player. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and was eager to train in order to be an asset… and an asset he will be as he is in excellent physical condition!”

    HOT HOT HOT!!! SMOOOKING HOT ALEX!!!!!

  • ladybug

    @Alliana: She might be referring to why the celebrity actor for Team USA is a Swede, and not an American, not why is there no American team.
    A similar question could be asked of the Commonwealth Team, consisting of Australia and Canada, and whose celebrity mentor is British.

  • Peanut Gallery

    @ladybug: Er, but Australia & Canada are members of the Commonwealth of Nations

  • Good Point

    I agree, it is not the wounded walking this trek that is being questioned here is it? It is disappointing that none of our home grown celebrities are willing or able to support their own servicemen/women. Kudos to Alexander for doing so. It does make sense, however, that a British actor would partake in the British Commonwealth team. It would be refreshing to see one of our politicians volunteering to mentor.

  • Alliana

    @ladybug: well I think both Alex and Prince Harry, while valuable team members, have also been brought in to raise awareness of the cause which will hopefully translate into funding/donations. There aren’t that many actors or politicians that could actually find the time to train and build up the strength to complete this trek not to mention handle the cold. Alex being ex-military, Swedish and used to the cold and snow, a man who exercises a lot and a free spirit (i.e. chooses his own path) seems like a good choice for this.

  • EVI

    If Alexander Skarsgard has something it’s time he has nothing better to do . It’s not that he will play in a movie soon

  • Cafélady

    @EVI: well, a upcoming movie project to do in the next time or not – anyway, it’s great that he will join the team and gives his name, time and energy for a charity project like this. It’s not as if this would be only a walk in a summery city park…
    I have to research once again, what date they announced for the shooting-start of ‘Tarzan’ – as far as I know, it was confirmed that he got that role. But may be, they postponed the start of the shootings or whatever.
    Either way, it’s great that he accepted this challenge.

  • Slinky the Cat

    Alex has two movies coming up. One begins filming at the end of this month in South Africa (where WWTW is set to start) and the other is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in May.

  • Cadulech

    @Slinky the Cat:
    The giver was to be film in November for what i knew.Now has changed?

  • ladybug

    @Peanut Gallery: I know that, but why couldn’t they get a Canadian or Australian celebrity to do this?

    That question is in part rhetorical, it isn’t just the time, but the idea of spending nearly a month trekking across the Antarctic is probably pretty intimidating.

    @Alliania: While Alex’s fitness and previous military experience are helpful, as well has having a sense of adventure, the Antarctic isn’t normal cold weather. Even Prince Harry, who’s done part of the WwtW North Pole trek, is still having to do cold weather training.

    It’s not that he can’t do it or that he’s not a good choice-I’m presuming they’ve made sure that he’s mentally and physically capable of it, but this sort of trek still takes a lot of training, and that’s true for the vets as well.

    And The Giver is not confirmed. If he does take the role it will be shooting in South Africa in October. And it’s a supporting role, so it wouldn’t take that long to film.

    Tarzan is also not officially greenlit, but if it is the tentative start date is May 2014.

  • rambler

    ladybug your comments about the Commonwealth team make no sense. It’s a Commonwealth team, does it really matter which part the members are from??

  • Warped

    Honestly, does it really matter where any of them come from? It’s an awesome charity and I give huge props to all the soldiers and celebs involved. Alex being involved is a bonus. Alex owns a home in the US, so his involvement with the US team makes sense.

  • ladybug

    @rambler: Obviously not.
    But it’s just a question-since there is already a British team, with a British mentor, and a separate Commonwealth team consisting of Australia and Canada, was there a reason their celebrity isn’t from Canada or Australia. Same thing with the US team, our celebrity mentor is a Swede, not an American. I’m just curious.

  • Famewhoring

    which twiggy model who’s legswould just snap in the cold will skars be trekking with to this charity event? , got nothing else 2 get some fame for him and his model.
    Phoney and faux not nice Alex not cool .

    I give this guy 4 days then he will cry and quit. He is not going to make it. That’s for sure!!
    @Alliana: Free-spirit??!! If I had as much money as he has. I would be a “free-spirit” too.

  • Joan

    I saw The East recently, what a terribly written, self indulgent piece of crap! How was this movie not panned by everyone? I was struggling to watch the whoe thing, it seemed like a soap opera in some parts, there was nothing for Alex to work with when the script and other actors are that bad, it was embarrassing to watch. I really don’t know how Brit Marling is getting her films made.

  • Harry

    agree about The East – politically naïve film

  • pretty kitty

    @Joan:
    brit gets her movies made by sleeping w/ financiers and “co-writers”
    and bedding stars like alex to get them to do crap movies they normally wouldn’t do.

  • Joan

    @pretty kitty: Haha, it’s funny you say that cause that’s exactly what my friend said, she must be banging someone rich and connected to get that crap made, it’s the only explanation!

  • http://@BJCottuli BJ

    OUCH! So many scathing remarks! US, Brit, Swede, Aussie, Canuck, I don’t care! Just proud of the cause and those that are helping! Go Alex, Go TeamUS!

  • Cafélady

    @ladybug: #27 I also think that’s a good question of @rambler – does it really matter what nationality the supporting celebs actually are? I thought this trek is a challenge for itself and goes for a good purpose, which is supported by mentioned celebs – shouldn’t this be the only thing that counts here? I mean, I thought the focus would be the charity action – and not the race/contest as itself.
    That’s why I wish EVERYONE in the team success, even though I’m always Team Alex (or in this case team US)… :)

    @Bjorne Larson says…: #29 Really? And why do you think so? Because he looks so much like a couchpotato? *ironic laugh* Not in good shape, or something?
    And what’s with the unneccessary remark about his potentially personal fortune? (Which isn’t sooo much as some people obviously seems to believe, if I can trust the last article about his salary in TB which I could read recently…)
    I would say your personal fortune has nothing to do with being a ‘free-spirit’…

    @Joan: Unfortunately I couldn’t see The East up to now. (I have to wait to November for the dvd-release) :(( *sigh*
    But according to the critics I could read up to – you (and your friend) are obviously the only people who didn’t liked it and gave a bad assessment…

  • All about Brit marling

    I still want to know how Brit marling gets acting gigs let alone her movies to be financed ?????? she looks the same in all her movies no change in hair style down and swept on the side no changes is facial expression bland and wooden nothing spectacular. tries to be hippie girl low maintance no way

    And no it has nothing to do with Alex ,and the east etc

  • pretty kitty

    @All about Brit marling: 2nd verse same as the 1st

  • Joan

    @Cafélady: Well I suggest you don’t waste your money and time on this crap, and no, a lot of people don’t like Brit and her pretentious, self indulgent films, and even if some people do, it still doesn’t mean it’s a good film, it just means they have very poor taste. I mean heaps of people like Miley cyrus and Britney spears music, but does that mean its any good?
    @All about Brit marling: Well she doesn’t get a lot, that’s why she started making her own films, even though she’s never studied writing or film making, or even acting for that matter, but that’s how pretentious and high her sense of entitlement is.
    I read an interview with her ages ago but this quote from her stuck in my mind ‘some people say life is short, but my life is a universe that shrugs her shoulders’, wtf? who the hell talks like that??

  • maya

    if the East is a bad movie then I wonder why alexander wanted to play that role

  • Harry

    I did not think it was a “bad movie” – I think it was a good thriller in that you did want to see how it all ended – but the so called message of the film was sophomoric and simplistic and quite a few reviews I read agreed. AS was good in it – he is always credible in his roles but in the end it received no awards at any of the film fests it competed in and did not exactly do so well even on the indie circuit.

    I think if he is really doing it – it really is great that he is doing this polar expedition. But I agree – he better get serious about training for it and spend time with the team on some glaciers.

  • Not so serious about training

    Serious about training I don’t think so he has no excuse not to train He has time on his hands if harry and other participants appear to be training whats alexs excuse filming , auditions, interviews, model jobs well he was spotted @the chateau marmont with a friend who appears to be in the music industry.

  • Cafélady

    @Joan: Like I said, I still couldn’t see the movie. And I don’t need suggestions of you, for what I should spend my money or shouldn’t spend it. Actually I think, the movie is about a important topic, and interests me also alone for that – aside of it, that alex is part of the cast. Sure, you are free to give Brit’s acting skills a bad assessment – if this is your opinion. But even if she was as bad as you claim – this doesn’t mean automatically, that the entire movie is bad.

    Up to now, I was never disappointed by one of his movies, respectively one of his performances – no matter what movie it was. And I’m sure, I will be thrilled about his performance again – also this time.
    At least, I can’t wait to see WMK and The East and all the other movies he made recently – and I’m happy if I can see them finally.

  • Bjorne Larson says…

    @35 Cafélady: I don’t think he is a couch potato. Quite the contrary, I see this expedition as about stamina than strength. It doesn’t look like he is taking this thing very seriously at all.
    He is a trust fund baby. He comes from money. Regardless if he is from another country. You shouldn’t believe the things he says about his childhood. It’s all B.S.
    Of course he sleeps around to get roles. I thought this was common knowledge.

  • It’s all hearsay

    Alex , gustav, sam wasn’t from a privilege background with his parents bank account loaded with pots of gold..there mom was a medical student and dad a theatre actor hardly well paied
    They are well travelled because of stellan and the film locations but they were certainly not wealthy enough to afford the latest gadgets top private school, universities ,mansions , cars it all comes down to hard work and grafting long hours I think stellan and family live fairly low key lifestyle compared to some actors there not lavished in gold everyday .

    However his sister and brothers bill, eija, valter , Ossian , kolbjorn probabaly had a better up bringing as stellans fame increased

    As for a alex sleeping around with producers to get work I call it hearsay like so many rumors on other actors sleeping around for work.

  • Keiko

    @Joan:

    Look at the stills from various scenes in the movie. Brit looks the same in every single still, no matter what the scene is. She has only one expression. C-list actress at best who has only gotten where she is because she’s a woman and a Leftist. Hollywood loves to promote left-wing celebrities, especially women.

  • Keiko

    @maya:

    He wanted to pander to the Eco-left in Hollywood. he thought it was a hot topic and that the film would be a hit because of the topic, but he misjudged. They all misjudged.

  • Tanter

    I can’t say I’m superimpressed with Brit or The East either but I think Alex took the part because he thought it was interesting – like many of the parts he’s been taking the last couple of years. I’m guessing the money from TB gave him some room to experiment at little. It’s always good for an artist to experiment, I think, otherwise they go stale. What will be interesting is what parts he’ll be getting now (or post-TB). I hope he gets The Giver – am wondering about Tarzan..

  • Keiko

    @Tanter:

    Yes, it is good to experiment. It shows bravery, too. It takes a lot of courage to try without having a good guarantee of success. But I don’t think he ever thought all three of his last movies would do as poorly as they did. Well, at least he didn’t get bad reviews as an actor.

    I am personally holding out for the horror movie…Hidden? That’s the one I’ve been waiting for all along. It genuinely sounds really interesting.

  • Tanter

    TBH I’ve got little interest in most of the movies he’s done the last couple of years, though I do think What Maisie Knew was great and he did an exellent job in it. I think he’s got a lot of talent but it’s suffering under the fact that he’s primarily doing American movies. I think he’s having a hard time being cast as anything else that the hot guy (boring) or in too small movies, that doesn’t make much difference for various reasons. I would love it if he tried to do things back home or in Europe in general or more for tv in shhorter series. I’m not convinced he’ll be given a shot at super-stardom (or how else to describe it).

  • Cadulech

    Sweden would love to have Alex back doing swedish movies on that i have no doubt as well any European country would love made movies with Alex.
