'Prisoners' Tops Weekend Box Office Over 'Insidious 2'
Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s new dark crime thriller Prisoners has topped this weekend’s box office with a gross of $21.4 million, according to THR!
Insidious 2, starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, fell 64 percent with $14.5 million to take second place.
Coming in at No. 3 was The Family, starring Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Dianna Agron, which brought in an additional $7 million.
Rounding out the top five were the Spanish-language film Instructions Not Included and Chris Brown‘s 3D dance movie Battle of the Year, which brought in $5.7 million and $5 million, respectively.
At the specialty box office, the romantic comedy Enough Said, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini, opened to a strong $240,000 from five theaters. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth‘s new film Rush earned $200,000 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles.
