Ellen Pompeo: Emmys 2013 'Felt So Dated'

Ellen Pompeo poses for a pic with Wendi McLendon-Covey as they make an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Monday (September 23) in New York City.

The 43-year-old actress, who appeared on The View earlier in the day, went on the show to promote the new season of Grey’s Anatomy, while Wendi, 42, promoted The Goldbergs.

“I didn’t see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me,” Ellen said (via USA Today). “… That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?”

“I’m extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day,” Ellen added.

Also pictured inside: Ellen, her husband Chris Ivery, and their daughter Stella out in NYC that same day.

FYI: Chris is wearing a Saint Laurent Varsity Jacket. Ellen is wearing a Novis Jumpsuit.

    She looks amazing as always!

And she’s totally right on the Emmys.

  • sweetness

She’s right. It’s was embarrassing. Now that being gay is all the rage in Hollywood, gays don’t care if their is ethnic diversity..their cause has been accepted and won. Kerry Washington was supposed to represented all the thousands of thousands of actors in Hollywood on shows we see in cable and network tv.

Hollywood has always been racist but what else is new.

@Gjj Are you serious?? Not only is your response incredibly unintelligent (I know those are big words, but try to keep up with me) but it’s also narrow-minded and completely unnecessary. I hope you acquire some common sense and decency one day but I bet that’s unlikely. Disagreeing with her views on the Emmys is one thing but calling her a “black lover” is another.

She might be right, I don’t know, I haven’t seen the Emmys. But it just seems like a cheap plug to me, it’s like, ‘I’m going to start talking about one thing and then I’m going to twist it and make it about my show.’

  • Fercat

But Gay is the color of rainbows.

  • LOL

Seriously a hospital without a single major Indian-descent doctor? WHAT A JOKE.

When Grey’s Anatomy has a person of South Asian and or Middle Eastern ethnicity then it’ll truly be diverse and a true representation of modern North America.

  • Domino

    @Fercat: Hahahaha! XD Love this.

  • living in the box

thank you fine lady. absolutely true. but then it Emmy, who care?

  • Bianca

    She is so right!

  • L

She’s married to a black man, and has a biracial child, of course she would wish that when she watch something, there would be a bit of mix of every person. We’re in 2013 after all. That is her opinion, and I don’t see what’s the big deal and people hating on what she’s saying. Everyone is entitled to say what they want.

  • Anna

I think its so weird that people feel the need to say stuff like this, like if people with different skin color were objects that need to be displayed. I do not get it

  • pammiej85

I’m African American and I never watch the Emmys so I don’t really care. But in general Hollywood doesn’t do a good job of representing diversity.

  • Amy

I’m Chinese and I never watch the Emmy’s so I don’t really care. But in general Hollywood doesn’t do a good job of representing diversity.

  • Ava

Why because she married a black guy , the Emmy’s are supposed to prop black people in their awards show as if they have a quota… Black people are 12% American population there more the enough represented in Hollywood … And the next time I go to China or India or Japan I’ll ask we’re all the white people are in their culture events.

  • Gomez

There are never any Hispanics on that dumb show! The only Latinos they have are white when they have them that is. They have a quota against Hispanics unless they are white Hispanics are 80% of the population now so we show be represented. WE have Telemundo and Univision but we need more representation.

  • Tom

“It was so dated”, how superficial and silly, as if racial groups were fades , next year Korean’s are all the rage. Do any people who go into acting have 2 brain cells, they’re all dumb as rocks.

  • yep

Why aren’t we focusing on the talent, wins? There are plenty of awards that focus on color, heritage, Latin awards, Bet awards, I don’t see diversity in those awards show. Also, dont’ see a white award show or tv station. Why do we say, african american, we don’t say irish american, germany american, japanese american, etc… We are all AMERICANS. I am happy for each person/show! Congrats to them as human being for a job well done!

  • Janie

    @Gomez: #18

Hispanics are NOT 80% of the population. Whites are 75% of the popular, so how in the hell could Hispanics be 80%. Truth is Hispanics are about 15% of the population.

  • Janie

The Emmys is VERY racists. They don’t even acknowledge Black shows, or Black Actors.
Being Black myself is why I don’t even watch that racist crap.

  • Devynn

@yep: The reason those shows exist is because POC don’t get recognition anywhere else.

  • Me

Yeah, the non diversity was more embarrassing that her loser husband’s criminal record & jail stints.

  • sharon

im white married and dated white. how dare ellen make such accusation because her marriage is interration. let black tell her shes not worth a sh t. i dont want there influence in my home. its apparent she was never a minority with black. i was and saw the forest through the trees. ellens marriage is not love and caring based.
