Gary Ross is complete **** as a director and I don’t think Jennifer’s acting capability will allow her to play such a role. So over this girl.

I like Jennifer, but her being cast as Cathy Ames is a joke. She’s nowhere near old enough to be taking on this part. Mother of two sons who are old enough to be competing for their father’s attention? Estranged wife? She’s 23 years old.

There is already a film adaptation of East of Eden, it starred James Dean. And it’s an iconic movie. Why do a new film adaptation?! I don’t like this. Leave classic movies alone. And I really can’t see Jennifer Lawrence as Cathy.

    Ha Says:

Why do they bother remaking all the CLASSICS? Is there no such thing as originality anymore? ugh

@Sarah. This version of East of Eden is more similar to the previous ABC’s tv mini-series version , that had a great performance by Jane Seymour ( in the Cathy Ames’ role ) . Trust me , Jennifer Lawrence cannot come close to Seymour’s unforgettable turn . Sadly, Jennifer is another A-list movie star with a very limited acting range and a lack of training .

    CC Says:

Wait they’re remaking East of Eden…the classic film that I adored in my film class or the miniseries which was good?

Maybe this is a remake of the miniseries and not just the later half of the novel like the 1955 version. I’m slightly intrigued but as great as Jennifer is, she seems way too young to play the part of Cathy, unless she’s the younger version of Cathy maybe.

    Courtney Says:

most modern day actors lack training as they never went to acting school or haven’t successfully done a Broadway show. this remake will fizzle at the box office Jennifer having won an Oscar doesn’t make her an A lister she’s too young

    i Says:

The Hunger Games in boring cheap primitive film which is Gary Ross fault. Its not Matrix or Inception but overrated childish trash. Across whole career Ross made only one(!) good movie Pleasantville, Seabiscuit is a snoozefest. And why JLaw AGAIN play caracter in late 30 while still 23?

    haha Says:

nooooo!!! no remake!! JLaw is great but not for this movie!

Surprise surprise, Lawrence is cast in the role of a wife AGAIN, wish she would do a film where she is not playing someone so much older than her age

i think she is a really nice Person but i am not anfan of her acting

  24. 24
    LaCroix Says:

Why are they casting her as a mother? Jennifer is too young for that..

    sighnomore Says:

It’s not a remake of the movie, it’s an adaptation of the book. While I loved the 1955 version, there was a lot left out of it. It even left out one of the main characters who holds the Trask family together (Lee) it also left Lee’s speech about Timshel which plays a huge significance on Cal in the ending of the book. The 1955 version is great on it’s own, the book is life changing! So I hope they do not change to much of the story. Also, to those who are complaining about Jennifer let’s not forget that Kristen Stewart wanted the part of Cathy Ames and her crazy fan base thought that she could pull it off (when let’s be honest here she can’t act her way out of a paper bag) so fans of the book & movie be thankful that K-Stew isn’t in it!
