Miley Cyrus Receives New Open Letters from Sinead O'Connor & Sufjan Stevens

Miley Cyrus continues to be one of the most talked about celebrities on the planet and she is still getting open letters from some people also in the public eye.

The 20-year-old entertainer has now received her fifth open letter from Sinead O’Connor, who this time responds to a comment Miley made about asking if they are “supposed to kiss” if they decided to “make up.”

Miley also received an open letter from musician Sufjan Stevens, who decided to tell her that her song “Get It Right” contains some incorrect grammar. He did make a point of saying that it is a great song with a great message.

Sinead O’Connor’s Fifth Open Letter to Miley Cyrus

Dear Miley

I hear you’ve asked “Are we supposed to kiss?”.. when someone asked you would we ‘make up’. No, worry not.. there’s no need for kissing.. But let me state again.. You’re supposed to apologise for the mocking of any person who sought help, publicly or privately, to prevent themselves from committing suicide.
You’re also supposed to apologise for mocking people who are mistakenly or otherwise perceived to be mentally ill. Because what you did is extraordinarily dangerous as it contributes to the silences which allow suicide to flourish and also contributes to the bullying of people perceived mistakenly or otherwise to be mentally ill. That bullying causes suicides. Thats why you’re supposed to apologise. Its really very simple. People die every day because of the type of thing you did.
Its not that hard to say sorry. Doing so will save lives.

Sinead.

Sufjan Stevens’ Open Letter to Miley Cyrus

Dear Miley.
I can’t stop listening to #GetItRight (great song, great message, great body), but maybe you need a quick grammar lesson. One particular line causes concern: “I been laying in this bed all night long.” Miley, technically speaking, you’ve been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there’s an object, i.e. “I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long.” Whatever. I’m not the best lyricist, but you know what I mean. #Get It Right The Next Time. But don’t worry, even Faulkner messed it up. We all make mistakes, and surely this isn’t your worst misdemeanor. But also, Miley, did you know the tense here is also totally wrong. Surely you’ve heard of Present Perfect Continuous Tense (I HAVE BEEN LYING in this bed all night long [hopefully getting some beauty sleep?]). It’s a weird, equivocal, almost purgatorial tense, not quite present, not quite past, not quite here, not quite there. Somewhere in between. I feel that way all the time. It kind of sucks. But I have a feeling your “present perfect continuous” involves a lot more excitement than mine. Anyway, doesn’t that also sum up your career right now? Present. Perfect. Continuous. And Tense. Intense? Girl, you work it like Mike Tyson. Miley, I love you because you’re the Queen, grammatically and anatomically speaking. And you’re the hottest cake in the pan. Don’t ever grow old. Live brightly before your fire fades into total darkness.

Inappropriate as Cyrus’ response has been, I’m still surprised O’Conner isn’t taking more heat for her ****-shaming and rape apologetics.

    Jessie Says:

Sinead is right, what Miley did was bullying and if Miley was a decent human being, she would apologize. I also don’t believe Miley is a “queen” as Sufjan points out.

To have this many song writers and producers working on your album means you didn’t have that much input. And to Sufjean, Miley didn’t write the song “#GETITRIGHT”, Michael Williams did, so your letter should be directed to him. And to those who love Wrecking Ball, she didn’t write that song either.

To me a queen is someone like Adele, who pretty much writes all her songs on her own, except maybe for a little extra help. Miley has people writing songs for her and she sticks her name in some songs to make it seems like she really wrote them, even though 10 other people wrote those songs. Her album is nothing but overproduced hyped songs written by other people that she is taking credit for. To be fair though, that is the issue with most pop singers and boy and girl-bands today.

Ugh, people stop. Sinead is right but open letters doesn’t help cause Miley doesn’t care!

  8. 8
    Jessie Says:

@Sarah.: That’s the part I forgot to add in my post. While Sinead is right, she has to realize that Miley is a lost cause.

    JJ THE EXPAT Says:

Wow! Sinead O’Connor is starting to annoy me. She’s harassing Miley. Whatever issue she had with her Miley has obviously moved on. Sinead can’t seem to let it go. Perhaps it’s a desperate attempt to get attention for her stalled music career. This Sufjan guy who I’ve never in my life heard of before seems to be jumping on board with passive aggressive harassment. Since these open letters are public I’m sure Miley will eventually get a lawyer and win!

    eternalozzie Says:

Miley is doing fine … it amazes me that people don’t know this is all to sell music … it’s straight up marketing.

  11. 11
    Red Head Says:

@eternalozzie: Thank you for your condescension. Yes, people realize that but it doesn’t make it any less disgusting.

She is selling sex for money. There is a word for that.

    And so we begin.... Says:

Hey Sinead, she ain’t gonna apologize!! She’s too much of a narcissist admit she said something wrong, and too selfish to give a damn about anyone else’ feelings other than her own.

    McLOVIN Says:

Guess what folks. Mentaly ill people are crazy. Get over it. Or at least make a real effort to get to the root of the problem. Which basically is too much white flour, rice, and sugar… For starters.

    citmyway Says:

    Open Letter to O’Connor:
She’s not going to apologize and bulling someone to apologize for “bulling” doesn’t seem to be the right way to go about it. It’s pretty much just annoying now to keep on about it b/c it’s kinda making you look “crazy”. The first and second open letters were kinda entertaining but now it’s just dumb. I know everyone has heard this but the definition of crazy is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result…….Just saying

    Krist Says:

Everyone is trying to have a ride on Miley’s train. lol. Let her be. She doesn’t read stuff like that. Pathetic.

  16. 16
    tara Says:

McLOVIN, if you think that mentally ill people are crazy, then you must also think that people with cancer are crazy. Who are you to judge a person and call them names for having an illness? Why be hateful and mean?

  17. 17
    McLOVIN Says:

No.16; Suggesting that saying that only crazy people say that you must be crazy if you say that you have cancer are also crazy is a very crazy idea. Breast cancer being the exception of course.

    Yum Says:

Sinead O’Connor is a psycho and Miley was professional in how she responded to her open letters.

  19. 19
    WTF? Says:

I mean I am not a huge Miley fan but for the love of anything holy, leave the girl alone. These open letters tell us all something about the sender rather than the receiver. Wars are being waged so let us move on please.

    nemo Says:

    @Yum: AHAHAHAHAHA

  21. 21
    punkass Says:

    IMHO…Commenting negatively on Miley’s outfits=**** shaming.
Commenting negatively on Miley’s lyric’s/comments=**** shaming.

However, commenting negatively on a 20 yr old who simulates sexual acts on screen, stage etc. (for shock value and not for artistic purposes) deserves to be commented on negatively=not considered **** shaming.

    Have a nice day!

    Domino Says:

Oh my god, when this started I couldn’t care less about Miley. Now I’m starting to like her. Both of these people need to STFU! I have no idea who he is, but his trying to sound smart makes him actually sound like a f*cking a**hole too full of himself. As for Sinead, she’s a lost cause, not Miley. As a grown woman with mental health issues myself, I think Sinead is doing more damge than good, and sounding f*cking insane in the process.

    Benjamin GettinYahoo Says:

    What’s a Sufjan?

  25. 25
    Jo Says:

Enough already Sinead! Not that I thought Miley owed you an apology in the first place, but you definitely owe her one for all this crap! Hey we’re all entitled to our own opinions but 5 “open” letters and how many tv interviews later? It stopped being about your opinion and has become an attack! Not your first (or fifth) open letter is it, ya seem to have made it a habit! One to Trayvon, one to his parents, one to the pope, just to name a few! Albeit this appears to have been the only one’s that have gotten you “just announced tour dates” on this side of the ocean! How empowered you must feel, a woman of your age, cashing in on slamming a 20 year old, repeatedly, have YOU paid her? Mental health issues aside, from one woman in her 40′s to another, lady you are a whack job!!
