Brad Pitt: '12 Years a Slave' Cuts to the Base of Humanity

Brad Pitt sits down for an interview with the Today show to discuss his new movie 12 Years a Slave on Wednesday (October 16).

“I’m a moviegoer,” the 49-year-old actor said. “That was a place that was a big escape for me, to open my eyes up to the world when I was a little, little kid. I loved going to see films. So I think of it from that side of it, and I know the impact of this film.”

“It’s one of those few films that … cuts to the base of our humanity,” Brad continued. “And it was not until I saw Solomon Northup’s story that I fully, fully (grasped) the utter horror of losing your freedom or denying another one their freedom, taking their freedom, splitting their family apart.”

Whenever I read these stories I’m always afraid my eyes are going to get stuck in the back of my head. First they claimed Brad and Angie were getting married in Hawaii and by the end of the article they were back to saying they’re getting married in France. And I’m confused about her mother being able to be part of the wedding if it’s in Hawaii, which her mother loved, but not France, which her mother also loved…but when Marcheline died they claimed her ashes were skattered in the Bahamas…because Marcheline loved the Bahamas…but that was before the video and pix of Angie, James and Marcheline in Hawaii surfaced. Now the Bahamas has been supplanted by Hawaii. Next the tabs will be saying that Brad and Angie are getting married in Oz on his 50th b-day or moving to Oz because Angie and the kids fell in love with it while they were there. The people who work at these rags must have brains like a bowl of oatmeal – total mush.

Ironic that BrAnge are working the entertainment angle of the NWO that seeks to collectivise, control, and enslave the earth’s population at the feet of its corporate masters with pretty little utopian promises and stories of “change”. Divide us.Tell us all how bad we are Bradley. Help make us feel guilty for the crimes of others. Make us cave in to political correctness & conform, thus easier to control.

Vindication for Brad? I just saw a story on THR about the problems with Darren Aronofsky’s biblical pic Noah. Apparently the test screenings have been very mixed and the 3rd act sucks. This is another big budget Paramount movie – although they’re only footing half of the bill. According to THR they’re bickering with Aronofsky of the trajectory and editing of the movie and it’s gone over it’s $125MIL budget. The main source says that Aronofsky doesn’t want to listen to Par’s suggestions for how to fix the movie and wants to do everything his way. They also noted that this is Aronofsky’s first big budget studio movie in a long time – since the debacle that was The Fountain. Everyone is always pointing their finger at Brad for backing out of that movie but even Aronofsky admits that he got carried away and changed the script and scope after the studio gave him a ton of money because Brad was going to star in the movie. By the time it was ready to film it was no longer the movie Brad had agreed to star in so Brad bailed…the studio took back most of their money and Aronfosky ended up making a movie very close to the original that Brad had agreed to star in. Now it looks like he’s doing the same thing. Brad and everyone involved in WWZ was able to fix that movie and Brad marketing the hell out of it and it was win for Par. But Noah doesn’t have Brad. It stars Russell Crowe and a bunch of CGI animals and water. Russell ain’t exactly on fire at the BO these days, so it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out – and whether or not the rest of the entertainment media and VF will turn on Aronofsky the way they turned on Brad. “Game on, fvckers.”

Yes I’m sure that tanning, red carpets, trips to Mexico and lying on a sofa getting stoned out of your head is so much more appealing than raising beautiful children, learning about foreign cultures, designing furniture, wine making and starring in and producing award winning films.

12 years A Slave has 16 reviews on MC. 10 100 already. We already know Peter trevers and Michael Phillips gave this movie raves so you might as well say 12 100. With around 34-40 reviews total this movie should have close to 25 100 by the end. With 45 reviews its score at RT is 96 with a perfect 10/10 top critics rating. 5 of the raves from MC has not been added yet and Hitflix review has not been added so expect the avg and score to rise. BFCA is sitting great around 95. 12 years is living up to the hype. With The director, and two actors being British this should do very well with them and I can see this movie winning Sag, DGA, WGA and PGA thanks to the cast and Brad Pitt. To say this movie is looking great would be an understatement. Critics are saying it is a must see after all.

Review: 12 Years a Slave (Steve McQueen, 2013)
Posted by: Erik Anderson 33 mins ago

In matters regarding a historical time frame, accuracy is key in presenting a story so that people can understand what occurred, and to give us all proper perspective to reflect upon and try not to repeat the horrors of the past. In British director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, if you are familiar with his film style from Hunger and Shame, you know that he breaks down a story in its most raw form to show the true pain and torture of the protagonist of the film. After watching 12 Years, you will know that this is the most tragic depiction of the American slave trade ever told. It is no wonder that it took a British director, along with the top three actors of this drama, also being non-American, to tell the story of America’s colonial times of shame and inhumanity.
The film is based on a true story, and knowing this makes it part unbelievable, because you cannot believe just how frightfully cruel humans can be towards one another, and the other part is believable because you know exactly how cruel humans can be towards another. A free black man, Solomon Northup, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, living in the northern state of New York is tricked and drugged by two men falsely promising him a violinist performance job in Washington, DC. He wakes up bound in chains like an animal, and is severely beaten into submission for daring to try to explain who he is, and where he comes from. He then learns the hard way that fate played a cruel joke on him and his life is changed, 360 degrees, forever. What may startle some viewers is that the use of the N-word is introduced within the first 90 seconds of the film and is repeated approximately 300 times throughout the film, and the bulk of that repetition comes from a disgusting song that is proudly sang loudly by a plantation hand played by Paul Dano. McQueen probably did this to set the tone immediately that this film was going to be very different than any other film about slavery, and he was right.
As Solomon comes to terms with his situation, he is advised by other slaves that he needs to play dumb and subservient or he will be hurt in unimaginable ways if his master(s) knew he spoke eloquently, and could read and write. Every passing second he sees the horror of what it is to be a slave when he witnesses other slaves being lynched, beaten, whipped, and raped. At one moment, the camera focuses in on Solomon’s face for several minutes as he has a blank distant look of disbelief and fear, while cicadas sing in the background. A beautifully frightful moment where the viewer would imagine that Solomon is giving up hope and his life could soon come to an end. That is the constant fear of each slave. Will today be my last day alive? There was one scene in particular that was prolonged and left you on the edge of your seat in wondering how long was Solomon going to be left in that condition before someone helped him. Other slaves were too petrified to offer help – he just had to hang in there, literally, and hope he survived. A traumatic scene that would make you wince with absolute empathy.
Solomon is traded off from one master to pay off a debt to Edwin Epps, who is played by Michael Fassbender. As we have been forewarned, the Epps character will be the most brutal and dangerous slave owner ever presented on film. And that warning was accurate. Edwin did not see his slaves as human beings, they were simply property; possessions to torture and treat worse than dogs. When he was bored, he would wake them all up in the middle of the night (after spending 12 hours in the hot sun picking cotton), to dance for him. And each day, he would weigh the pounds of cotton picked by each person, and if they did not meet their quota, they would get whippings. There was one slave that was fodder for lust and hate by Epps, and it was the young girl Patsy, excellently played by Lupita N’yongo. This poor girl was constantly tormented and brutalized by Epps, and despised by his jealous wife. It becomes obvious in due time that Epps was obsessed and in mad love with her, he wanted complete control over her as his number one best worker slave, and his sex slave. The 18th century did not have a diagnosis for manic depressive personality disorders, but there was something more sinister about Epps than his racist evil behavior, foul temper, sadistic games, and alcoholism. What he did to Patsy makes you forget about Solomon Northup, if just for a few moments.
Have you ever seen someone being hurt and you feel their pain too? Well, if you’re susceptible to that level of empathy, you may avert your eyes or cover your ears when you see the heightened level of absolute cruelty placed upon Patsy. It is so heartbreaking and I think this scene could cause people to walk out the theater, if just to have a break from this S&M slavery drama. Michael Fassbender was on fire as Epps and I say this because he completely

yeah…we are sure he is thinking of boring, brain-dead, shallow and dead-end of x-past. Sitting on the couch…sharing a joint with the “beautiful Jennifer Aniston” talking non-stop about hair products, beauty tips, dogs, booze and self-help dribble. Oh I know, maybe Brad can finance that Goree Girls flick finally for Ms. Aniston. …and leave those kids with Angie, cause kids are waaayy too messy for good old Jen.

    dayum.

    Continuing from the article

disappeared into this role effortlessly. As brutal, evil, and pathetic Epps is, Fassbender brought to life a man that today would not be considered a human being. But for Solomon North, eventually, he found the trust in one man, played by Brad Pitt, who could help him deliver an important message to his wife about his circumstances and whereabouts. Solomon was able to escape once he was identified by his friend from New York. And in the scene where Epps was so enraged and tried to stop them from taking away Solomon, his property, Epps hit the summit in demonstrating how volatile, and monstrous he was. And as Solomon departed, the rear view scene was so sad.
Throughout 12 Years, I was impressed by the score from Hans Zimmer. I usually don’t care much about a film’s score, but this film had my attention so completely, that I noticed the score and felt its loud and jarring modern sound, which fit very well with the film. Steve McQueen is obviously the director to make this film. His being British helps to remove him from having a personal ethnocentric bias in softening the movie for American audiences. Being British, he took the bull by the horns and told the story as it is. I dare say that ’12 Years’ is the type of film that should be required viewing in high school or college American history. It is so well made and such a thorough depiction of a true story, it is important for people to see it. In order to move forward as a compassionate and humane society, we have to acknowledge our horrible past. McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave is a very hard film to watch, and it will leave many people in tears at the end. But we all need to see this. Not only is this an important film, but it’s a masterpiece. – Simone Cromer
    Oscar Chances
In regards to the film’s Oscar chances, it is automatically a Best Picture nominee, along with director, actor, supporting actor, supporting actress, editing, adapted screenplay, sound, and cinematography. Putting weight on the history this important film will make by being recognized by the Academy to win at least five Oscars is a bet I’m willing to make. No other film this year is equally heavy and important. My only trepidation is that Years is so realistically brutal, a guilt inducing that many AMPAS members may not have the courage to watch the film. Some may have to walk away for a break, but may not have the energy to go back and finish it. They may just write it off as something just too harsh. And what about Michael Fassbender’s chances of being nominated for an Oscar after being ignored for both ‘Hunger’ and ‘Shame’? The supporting actor category has a strong record of awarding evil characters. The question is could Edwin Epps perhaps be too horrible of a character to be nominated?

Troll is in so much pain that it can’t recall the facts- Brad said life with fat tick old manny was a DEADEND- over & over again. Even manny herself said that she liked it when he was gone. Vince Vaughn, John Mayer and several others also ran away from fat tick old manny- THAT’S beautiful- karma coming home to roost for a nasty old has been whose biggest achievement is being 1/6 of an ensemble tv sitcom. Time for another dirtbag award.

    Excerpt from Michael Fassbender’s interview:

Why did it take a British director in 2013 to make the first Hollywood film to expose the brutality of slavery?

That’s really down to Brad Pitt and Plan B [the producers]. We’re working in the movie business, and it is very much that, so there are people that go out to malls and gauge demographics, what sort of endings people want to see, and that sort of thing, and this doesn’t tick the right boxes. It’s a money thing, that’s number one. And it’s difficult to see this sort of stuff and deal with it because maybe there’s some shame involved. It’s something that is 150 years old, but that’s not too far away. It took Oliver Hirschbiegel until 2004 to make Downfall in Germany about the last days of Hitler, so perhaps it hit a little too close to the bone. We wouldn’t be having this conversation without Brad Pitt and Plan B.

Hillary Clinton has blasted Angelina Jolie as a “fake” and a “home-wrecker,” according to an insider who predicts that the simmering tension between the two powerhouse women will soon explode!

The former first lady is said to have bared her claws at the Hollywood femme fatale after learning that Angelina wanted to seduce her husband, former president Bill Clinton. And the friction has grown worse in recent years as the two became prominent in international politics – Angelina as a United Nations goodwill ambassador and Hillary as President Obama’s secretary of state.

“Not even a world’s stage is big enough for these two women,” declared a source. “Hillary has gotten more and more riled up as she saw Angelina continually trying to steal her thunder.

“The last straw came when Hillary heard that Angelina was going to get involved with the 2016 (presidential) election. While she hasn’t officially announced her run for the White House, it’s pretty clear Hillary sees herself as the leading Democratic candidate, and she doesn’t want Angie running off her mouth.”

Last April, when both of them were at the Women in the World summit in New York, an insider says Angelina got word to Hillary that she wanted to meet her privately “to discuss important matters” in an empty room at the Lincoln Center.

Added the source: “Hillary was fit to be tied. ‘Why on earth would I want to see HER!’ she raged. Hillary made it clear Angelina was not her favorite person and that if they met she would probably end up telling her, ‘You’re a fake!’”

“Angie was mystified by Hillary’s cold snub.”

Hillary’s animosity stretches back years. Sources say she believes her skirt-chasing husband became infatuated with the now 38-year-old “Salt” actress in 2007 after Angelina attended an annual meeting for his foundation. And journalist Ian Halperin wrote in his book, “Brangelina: The Untold Story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie,” that the sexpot had stated she wanted to seduce Bill Clinton.

“Hillary believes Angelina encouraged Bill’s attention and that’s something she will never forget. When it comes to bearing a grudge, Hillary has a long memory. She’s also described Angie to some of her closest aides as a ‘homewrecker’ for the way she stole Brad from Jennifer Aniston.

“To Hillary, working in politics is a lot more complex than being a part-time U.N. ambassador in between acting gigs and she firmly believes that Angie should stick to making movies.”

The situation almost came to a head in 2009, when Angelina and Hillary were scheduled to meet at the White House for World Refugee Day. But Hillary suffered a mysterious fall and broke her elbow, forcing her to cancel the meeting. That fall was “highly suspicious,” a source told author Halperin at the time.

“So far, Hillary and Angelina’s bitter feelings have stayed below the public radar,” the source noted. “But it’s only a matter of time before the gloves come off.”

I read there was an accident yesterday on Brad’s movie. I heard heard the man will be ok. There was a new photo of Angelina this morning over at BRANGELINA forum. I believe Angelina started directing yesterday. Hopefully brad will be wrapping up by next month. Have a great day.

Just had lunch, so I’m trying to control myself from LOL.
Talk about stupid not the writer, you, because the writer is trying to make money from his propaganda.
Here is a tip for you, Hillary is not the Secretary of State, I saw John Kerry at a Summit with Angie telling her “Good Job”, oops you did not know he was Secretary of State.
And another tip for you, Angie will work with Republicans or Democrats.
Only sheep will believe that nonsense, you trip over yourself bringing to this thread, now running along and bring back something credible, ass wipe.
