Vanessa Hudgens: 'Gimme Shelter' Official Trailer - Watch Now!

Check out a totally transformed Vanessa Hudgens in the trailer for her new film Gimme Shelter!

The film is based on a true story and centers on pregnant 16-year-old Agnes “Apple” Bailey (Hudgens) through the struggle for survival and the hope of redemption through the harsh realities of life on the streets.

As a pregnant teenager, Apple’s journey plummets her into a perilous struggle until finding salvation in a suburban shelter for homeless teens. With provisions of unprecedented comfort, a collective sisterhood connection and female empowerment, the shelter elevates Apple to break the shackles of her past and inspires her to embrace the future with clarity, maturity and hope not only for herself but her unborn child.

Rosario Dawson and Brendan Fraser also star in the movie, which will open in select theaters on January 24.

@emma: Overreacts? Did you actually watch this? Staring? You must be confused with the ex. This trailer shows EMOTION, pure and simple. I think she nails it. Rosario’s performance looks good too, and in all fairness, she should. She’s older, has been around a lot longer, and has more experience than Vanessa. It’s not fair to pit them against each other. They BOTH look very impressive in their roles.

  • broohaha

good to see an ex-disney actress taking up more challenging roles and making an effort to improve and hone her talent unlike some others who would rather torture people with a poor mans britney spears act

  • lol

@maria Why do you want to bring her ex up here? This is a Vanessa Hudgens post and let’s not deviate and give his fans an excuse to come rushing over here.

  • emma

@maria Why bring up Zac??? Still hung up on the past i see. Tbh tho he has been very relaxed in his acting of the recent roles. Both have improved their acting skills.

@lol: @emma: My point was completely missed. Miss Emma is thinking of the wrong actor if she is thinking of staring. That’s all I said. I certainly see Vanessa’s progress though. And this post is about her. Emma was being ridiculous. Overreacting, my a$$.

  • lol

3 mentions from reviews comes from the same critic

  • lol

@maria: I love to see all of you dreaming that Vanessa will win an Oscar, you dream too high, you said that about Spring Breakers and now no one is talking about this piece of sh*t, ooh you said the same thing about “The Frozen Ground” and where is this movie now?

  • Whonessa

@maria: Please, don’t make me laugh, Vanessa is STARING EVEN ON THE POSTER!!!! HAHAHAHA

In the trailer she is just alternating between stare and do “ugly faces”… “oh guys, take a look, I become ugly, give me an Oscar”, what a loser lol

Can’t wait for this movie to be released just to come here and laugh so hard in the face of everyone

I just want to see everyone frustrated with the ‘reviews’

The movie will be released in January, after soooooo long, it is likely that neither the studio believes in that “Oscar buzz”

  • Haters Suck!

    @lol
Spring breakers is getting Oscar attention and might get a nomination, lol.

  • HAHA12

She was very good in Spring Breakers despite Franco getting all the credit. She looks good in this, I’m intrigued to see how far she goes with her acting in the future.

  • tina

@lol: Yet another alias? Step up and be a man. What the hell do you expect her to do on a poster? This isn’t Hogwarts, pictures don’t move. Grow up. This isn’t Disney so I expect little girls not to think it’s acting. Every time you bring up Oscars you expose yourself. You really need to move out of your mothers house and get a life.

  • maria

@Whonessa: Oh, just put a sock in it, moron. Did I ever mention oscars? No, I simply said there were good performances from Vanessa AND Rosario. Quit whining. If and when she gives a performance that does get recognition, we will be the last ones laughing at you. The rest of your comment is just asinine.

  • fan

van your the best actress for me, i dont care what other would say…i luv u and so proud of for this project…stay as what you are and never mind your haters…im olways your no. 1 and last fan…i luv you vanessa…

  • Whonessa

@Haters Suck!: A movie from July, that no one watch, and that no one is talking about anymore, a movie that gets 66% of approval from critics (and 40% from audience) according to Rotten Tomatoes, and a 5.4 average in imdb, a movie that have to compete with 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, Captain Phillips, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks, The Butler, Inside Llewyn Davis, All is Lost, Her, Dallas Buyers Club, Blue Jasmine, Fruitvale Station, Rush, Labor Day, Before Midnight, Prisoners… seriously? Don’t dream…

  • Nightwish

Guys, this flick is too painful to watch. Too depressing, too difficult to keep watching vanessa. She doesnt play anguished in a way that compels you to stick it out with the film. I know she tried hard but i doubt this will do well. Hudgie doesnt have the right character about her to charm you into bonding with her screwed up persona. And she just looks too weird and unrecognizable. Wrong casting.

  • Nightwish

Im exhausted and depressed from watching the trailer alone. Hudgens is tolerable being whiney and super angry in short doses, but not for more than 5 minutes. Its her least marketable emotion in terms of her acting. It gets too tiring. Dramatic roles with psychotic anger are clearly not her forte. Someone should pass it along. If she doesnt care about the success of the film and just wants it on her resume, fine.

  • Emily

@Nightwish: there u go again, always complaining, always searching for her flaws and her mistakes. u know what, how i wish that all of us could be better and just pray for the best to one another. doesnt care if they are a celebrity or not, try to be kind please. dont let your heart be covered up by pitch black hole that u dont want to accept the truth and be tolerable.

  • Jd

@daisy: Well i don’t give crap about what your audience thought, the only opinion that matters to me is mine and she sucks major bal*s at acting.

  • JD

@maria: You must know nothing about good acting! Her terrible acting is painful to watch and mainly because she is trying so hard.

  • daisy

@Jd: chill kid. if u personally think she “sucks balls” then cool dont cry about it its just a movie lol

  • truth

Spring Breakers was nominated in the 2014 Indie Spirit Awards for Best Cinematography.

  • daisy

@JD: i think she has improved cuz she wasnt that good before. if u look on the comments on youtube for the trailer quite a lot of ppl have said they were surprised she seemed good so clearly you are assuming the majority think she is bad just like you do but its all a matter of opinion.

  • snazzy

i havent ever seen an ethnic woman do better than a white man in hollywood so i have no idea why you guys are saying “she cant hold a movie bla bla bla shes only ever been supporting”. maybe shes always supporting because shes aware that not only will her disney past hold her back, but her ethnicity is fairly obvious. you can disagree but you know its true that ethnics in general struggle in hollywood if they are talented. The ratings are much lower i think the exceptions include Precious and that was just watching a black girl get tortured by her parents. Its not exactly the most positive message to reinforce about Black families is it? Some attain to white culture such as lightening the skin (a big issue in asia),bleaching the hair and just getting rid of ethnic features. if this does well then well done to her because i specifically remember that she said she finds it difficult when she goes for roles since because shes technically mixed race she doesn’t know if she should go for caucasian roles because its obvious shes not full or go for asain/latina roles since shes only half. i applaud her for getting this far since Gimme Shelter was originally looking for a Caucasian female age 16 – 22 and she managed to get it. Do I think she is a good actress? Yeah. Its just whether she will get accepted into the clutches of Hollywood.
And Im not defending her personally because if I thought she wasnt a good actress I would happily say, but if you’re comparing her chances to getting far to others who clearly have a better chance is kinda silly. Leading ladies of blockbuster films are mostly white and color does matter in marketing. Remember when people complained that Rue in Hunger Games was too dark and was supposed to be a lighter brown? Some even said they were kind of happy she died. Remember when people said that the Indian girl who won Miss America was probably a terrorist so why did she win? And that she didnt represent Americans even though the first civilization of America were the Native Americans and some of the Caribs? Don’t tell me its not difficult.

  • maria

@Nightwish: You have to be certifiably nuts. She is excellent in this trailer, and you KNOW it. I completely disagree with your ridiculous assessment. I think the trailer draws you in instantly to her pain, her horrific circumstances, and then her journey to being at peace. It’s NOT a depressing movie, it is inspirational and moving. But since you prefer crap frat boy and teen twilight movies and think that is exceptional acting, i don’t expect you to get it. Geez. Don’t be such a loosier, dude.

  • maria

@snazzy: Thanks for that. I have been saying that forever. Jennifer Lawrence, Chloe Moretz, Kristen Stewart, etc., are HANDED roles, not because they are uber talented. It’s because they are white. Hollywood is run by wealthy Jewish men, and that’s just how it is. Does that make it right? No, but it does make it extremely difficult for a girl like Vanessa to succeed. She will spend many more years establishing her creds, and it’s because of her looks. But she is determined, and THAT is why I applaud and follow her. In a world of white starlets, she is different, and I like her fight.

  • Whonessa

@snazzy: This is bullshit, Vanessa won’t get roles because she is a girl that cames from a Disney Channel telefilm, nobody takes her serious, and Zac have the same difficulties

  • JD

@daisy: Well you need to chill when you read a comment you don’t like about your precious crappy actress instead of attcaking ppl.

  • Nightwish

@maria: Boy did i miss your pushiness about hudgens. Such conviction my dear

  • daisy

@JD: LOL how am i attacking you? are u actually serious? i said to chill and not get so agitated how is that attacking? you guys always assuming just because someone else disagrees its automatically attacking lol. shes not my precious actress but its like when i hear people say for example ariana grande cant sing and im like “whhuut” because although arianas not some amazing singer shes good then they try and say im some die hard fan trying to defend her crappy singing. no. i just think shes good. not as good and entertaining as others but nonetheless good.
and i then said that you saying she “sucks balls” is a personal opinion which is completely fine but not everyone thinks that so you saying to maria that she knows nothing about good acting is pretty ironic since quite a few people have commented on other sites saying vanessa seems quite good. not amazing but better than they expected. dont cry about it sheesh.

  • snazzy

@Whonessa: yeah i already said that. did u read it all or just skip parts? disney is a difficult but ethnicity and gender also come into play. did i deny zac had difficulties? not at all. he has difficulties according to what he is used to and vanessa has difficulties according to what she is used to. zac is a white jewish male in a white jewish male dominated industry. his difficulties lie in his disney background. thats pretty much it. vanessa has difficulties according to her disney background, mixed ethnicity and gender e.g. double standards. i remember in the movie django unchained dicaprio had difficulties saying the n word to the blacks on set whilst filming and had to take a break because he just wasnt used to it. but samuel l jackson came up to him and said that him and other black people get this everyday but they just have to get used to it. im more than certain vanessa has been turned down a role for looking too ethnic. it seems very likely in this industry.

  • maria

@snazzy: I agree on the Disney stigma as well. Lawrence, Fanning, Moretz, Stewart, etc. do not have that to overcome. On one hand, it makes you a household name with kids, but it is a nightmare to move on. Very few have done it successfully. Throw in ethnic looks and being female, the odds are nearly insurmountable. I really give her props for any successes she’s had. Her last performances have been well praised. But look at the road actresses like Halle Berry and Rosario have experienced. Nowadays, all you need is a rich Jewish sugardaddy like Weinstein, and you got yourself an Oscar. Smh.

  • Nightwish

@maria: What a crock. Ethic looks are important. There are such things as ethnic roles, this world is inhabited by non whites too you know lol

  • Nightwish

Who mentioned that they casted for a white chick for gs? The character is hispanic, no? Man the garbage put out to pump hudgens on this site is just insurmountable at times. You guys constantly need to be check and balanced. btw, hudgens was lucky enough to land the hsm part and now you guys whine about her not being able to make a career afterwards? if she s good enough, shell get parts. If not, then its rough going. give it a rest.

  • Nightwish

@maria: i also am no fan of jew hollywood, but you guys are the ones pointing fingers at others being ‘racist’ around here. The hypocrisy is just unbearable lol

  • snazzy

@Nightwish: i said they originally were looking for a caucasian female aged 16 – 18 (but they stretched it to 22) but the director said she had the best audition hence why she was chosen. The girls of the shelter also chose her and none had ever seen her before so it was based on her acting purely.
    http://www.auditionsfree.com/2011/movie-audition-teen-girl-gimme-shelter/
here is the audition details from 2011. Rosario and Vanessa have the same team/agent and were keen on working together so this project seemed to fit.

  • lol

@snazzy: I watched Spring Breakers and in it she played a white girl with blonde hair just like Ash Benzo did!! The truth is she doesn’t look very ethnic like Frieda Pinto does. In fact Vanessa looks like Mila Kunis. She totally resembles her! And Mila doesn’t seem to have any problem with having roles!

  • maria

@Nightwish: Oh, honey. Where is the hypocrisy? I am saying it exists bigtime in Hollywood. How is that being hypocritical? Chill, man. Go have some pre-Thanksgiving spirits. You need some.

  • tina

@lol: So everyone who has dyed blonde hair is automatically “playing white?” Do you realize how inane that statement was?

  • zacfan

@maria: nightwish exists to discredit any achievements/looks/talent of vanessa just because…. he’s the biggest hypocrite! Acknowledging that “prejudice exists” is not racist unlike calling asians/filipinos “maid” or banana-eating which he has said in the past! vanessa showed in this film that she’s got it and that irks him while his jaw-wired cokehead is still a ham actor!

  • zacfan

@lol: mila kunis didn’t start with disney and she is jewish. big difference there…

  • Eduardo

In this interview she said that a director told her she was not white or Asian enough for any role.

    so proud of you V,

  • aly

its like theres no inbetweens. its either shes terrible or deserves an oscar. how about this? shes an actress, and looks like she could turn out to be a great one if she pulls this off. done.

  • maria

@aly: Amen, aly. Like anything, it takes time and experience to get to each level, and she’s working at it. Every actor has blips along the way. I think she’s moving in a good direction.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We have so much to be grateful for, even our detractors who give us our fight! May you all have a wonderful day with your families and friends. Back to the kitchen!

  • TT

@zacfan lol I don’t think Freida is either! Freida started off her career with an oscar winning film and so did Vanessa. It’s like Vanessa couldn’t keep up with the headstart she had and her career went spiraling down since then.

  • Glamour

hello girls how ar you ? hello NW , how are u ? are u preparing for Xmas these days ?

  • zacfan

@TT: once again, you don’t get the point. frieda didn’t start with disney. she got famous playing a mumbai girl, in a british film that became a big hit. once in a while some international film or its star makes it big. but again, we are talking only about what vanessa has to contend with..however, she’s doing just fine and she has shown a lot of improvement. if something happens along the way – awards or bigger movies – that’s beside the point. the thing is she is working hard and she is happy.

  • maria

@TT: Spiraling? Upward maybe. Her last 3 roles got very nice reviews. I don’t call that a downward spiral. Also. Vanessa did not start her career in an oscar winning movie. Not sure where you get your information. Making it up as you go along.
