Zoe Saldana: I Avoid Answering Personal Questions About Myself

Zoe Saldana is striped and fabulous on the cover of Ocean Drive magazine’s December 2013 issue.

Here’s what the 35-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On keeping private about her personal life: “I love what I do so much, but I love my [personal] life more. And I realized throughout the years of being in this business that the only way to maintain some kind of sanity is to protect that which is most dear to you, which is your life and everyone that’s in it. [It] provides a sanity that gives me the ability to be insane by playing other people and living in other bodies for a long period of time, and then coming back home and knowing that my roots are so grounded that it’s easy for me to go back to being myself. The only way I can continue having that is by absolutely avoiding the questions that are asked.”

On the backlash of being cast as Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic: “I can’t stop to think about who thinks me to be black enough or not black enough. I know who I am. I like who I am. And I’m not going to explain who I am. I’ve always been like that—I was raised to be that way.”

On how that controversy made her stronger: “It’s one of the scariest projects I’ve ever been involved with because it was about an iconic figure, and there were so many political [issues] around it from the beginning, but I really wanted it to be a love song to Nina Simone and I wanted it to just come from a place of absolute love.”

She looks so pretty in the striped and red outfit. She grew too tall to be a ballerina so good she turned to acting.

She looks fantastic.

She is the one who tells everyone she is not African American but an Latina then has the nerve to get upset when people want an African American to play the very proud to be African American Nina Simone. STFU Zoe

She isn’t latina, Latinas are white with Spanish European ancestry. She can only play the roles for African Americans because of her looks. African Americans do not like her and she isn’t American either.
