Zoe Saldana: 'It's Very Hard Being a Woman in a Man's World'

Zoe Saldana strikes a pose on the cover of Manhattan magazine’s December 2013 issue.

Here’s what the 35-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On believing in gender equality: “It’s very hard being a woman in a man’s world, and I recognized it was a man’s world even when I was a kid. It’s an inequality and injustice that drove me crazy, and which I always spoke out against- and I’ve always been outspoken.”

On selecting movie roles: “I’m known for being selective in part I either pick or pursue, and what matters most is that they be good female roles where the character isn’t cardboard or objectified, and where there’s real substance. No generic girlfriend or wife, and no sexy bombshell. Enough of that already!”

On landing her breakout role in 2000′s Center Stage: “I heard about it, auditioned, and… Wow, Nicholas Hytner [the director] cast me. Of course it helped I had a background in ballet.”

Lol on her claiming she doesn’t play the generic girlfriend/wife. She’s been the generic girlfriend/wife in:

Drumline
Guess Who
The Words
Death at a Funeral

This woman is so phoney. She’s always trying to project this confident, empowered woman image but all I feel in all of her interviews is insecurity. I lost major respect for her when she claimed gender inequality is more of an issue for her than racism.

She looks so great.

Oh, good Lord, what does she have to complain about. It’s hard being a woman, it’s hard to be black. I’m both. And, you know what? Just deal with it and stop complaining. It was HARD to be a woman back in the 50′s and 60′s. Today, not so much, thanks to affirmative action and the radical feminist movement.

You idiot. Shes talking about sexism and you dismiss her opinion and say it’s not true. You just showed the sexism she’s talking about. STFU

It’s good that women can be strong. I respect what she’s saying although at times there is nothing wrong with being sexy.

She’s living in a man’s world? WTH is she talking about? Seriously! Give me just three examples! Just three!
