'Homeland' Season 3 Finale Recap - Who Was Killed Off?

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

Throughout the last few episodes of Homeland‘s third season, Damian Lewis‘ character Brody has been on a mission working with the CIA and Claire Danes‘ Carrie to kill General Akbari, one of the high ranking terrorists.

He was sent over to Iran to try and get asylum, telling them that he couldn’t go back to America where he is wanted for the bombing of Langley. They take him in under the supervision of Majid Javadi, a man that the CIA had turned into a double agent on their side.

At the end of last week’s episode, Brody had worked his way into Akbari’s office and completed the mission to kill him… but then he needed a way out of country.

The episode started with Brody trying to clean up the damage that he did in Akbari’s office while also trying to come up with a plan with Carrie. He moves the dead body into a corner and cleans up the blood before grabbing a gun and leaving the office. He gets into his car when people in the building realize what happened and he puts a gun on the driver to make him speed away. He makes the driver get out of the car eventually and then he goes to where he is to meet Carrie. They then go to the safe house together.

Back in the United States, Saul, Dar, and the rest of the CIA are trying to figure out the extraction plan. They get a call from Javadi who tells them he needs to capture Brody so that he can look strong and increase his chances of getting the promotion into Akbari’s position. It is the last few hours of Saul’s reign as the director of the agency and he wants to extract Carrie and Brody from the country.

At the safe house, Carrie tells Brody that she is pregnant with his child. Saul informs them of the extraction plan they have come up with. Hours later, they hear helicopters and exit the building where Iranian military forces are waiting for them. It was really a false noise coming from loudspeakers on the vehicles to get them to exit the building. They take Brody and leave Carrie behind. We find out that Dar betrayed Saul and communicated with Senator Lockhart, who got the president to agree to let him take command of the CIA eleven hours early. He was the one who called off the extraction plan and alerted Javadi of the safe house location.

Brody is given a speedy trial and he is hanged at a public execution, which Carrie goes to watch.

FOUR MONTHS LATER

Carrie is now eight months pregnant and she confides in Quinn that she is not ready for motherhood. She goes to a meeting with Lockhart where she is promoted to station chief in Istanbul, which is a very prestigious station and this makes her the youngest station chief in the CIA history. While chatting with her father and sister, Carrie tells them that she does not want to keep her baby. Her father offers to adopt the baby.

Saul was fired after Lockhart was made the director of the CIA. He decides to go into the private sector where the pay is higher. At a memorial held at the CIA, he meets up with Carrie and Dar where he tells them that he still respects the CIA over the private industry.

Carrie had tried to get Lockhart to agree to honor Brody at the memorial, but he refused. After the memorial is held, Carrie goes to the CIA’s halls late at night to draw one extra star on the memorial wall in his remembrance.
