Phil Robertson's Family Refuses to Film 'Duck Dynasty' Without Him

The Robertson Family has just released a statement saying that they refuse to film their hit reality show Duck Dynasty without patriarch Phil Robertson, who was suspended by A&E over anti-gay comments he made to GQ.

“As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty,” the family said. Read the full statement inside the post.

A&E announced the suspension on Wednesday night and said “we are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson‘s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty.”

The suspension has elicited a debate all across the country about first amendment rights and whether Phil should have been suspended for voicing his own opinion.

DO YOU THINK Phil Robertson should have been suspended from Duck Dynasty?

Click inside to read the Robertson Family‘s full statement…

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

    Stand strong against those jerks! You were rich before them and you’ll be richer without them.

    It’s time for Christians to stop being afraid to speak the truth of God’s Word because the world sure don’t mind shoving their beliefs down ours.

    God’s Word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow!

    I hope they do quit and get taken up by another network. I will never rest my television on the A&E channel again. Funny how tolerance is all great and fine on one side but not the other. This is America and agree or disagree he has a right to his beliefs and values and to express them as much as anyone else does. A&E screwed up and they will pay big in the end.

    goodbye racist homophobic hillbilly rednecks

    if only major networks like NBC would boycott rapper EMINEM

    @Great!:

    Back in the south, Way before all of us remember, African-Americans were discriminated against. They were not allowed to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, or engage with whites. The belief was that they carried diseases and other stuff whites did not, and they were punished and killed for going against those laws. Laws that were cast in the name of god and from passages in the bible. Laws encouraged and passed by men who thought they were better and more godly than African-Americans. In most places and in most minds, those thoughts and beliefs no longer stand true. To encourage and accept comments like Phil’s, you essentially are doing the same for LGBT people. Sure, he was with-in his right to express his beliefs, but when you are in a place of celebrity and power, as Phil is, as in the case of Paula Deen, EXPECT consequences. Kids watch that show, they market products to our kids at school time for Duck Dynasty. If your child went to school tomorrow and repeated his comment, your child would be suspended/punished for it. Is this what you want for your children? Is this intolerance and bigotry the lesson you want your child to carry on from some guy on TV?? I sure the hell don’t.

    Please, he has an opinion, he said something his work doesn’t like, he was suspended for it, now it is about free speech? He is a loon, his show just shows how low the intelligence level of the US has sunk. It is pathetic and people could care less, sad sad sad, that a show, in which there have been many things done that Leviticus condemns in the same exact way, would dictate the moral compass of a nation. As far as his comments about blacks? Anyone thinking what he said is ok has a screw loose.

  • Jordy

    @Great!: you do realize your beloved bible is full of hateful, murdering ideas that are so off current times. Slaves are okay in the bible. Eating shellfish or touching pig skin is cause for being stoned or burned. Your bible is shit. Stop acting like Christians are so much better than any other hateful religion. I’m all for believing in a higher power but to pick specific hateful passages from an outdated and unreasonable source but ignore the others is just ridiculous and moronic.

  • Tracy

    Good! These hicks need to be gone from TV! Maybe FOX news can pick them up.

  • Great!

    @Vee:

    You cannot compare Racism with the movement of a personal lifestyle choice. That dog won’t hunt. It is an insult to even go there.

    Also, your example of children learning the truth is nothing compared to the alternate lifestyle that is being shoved upon innocent children everyday. Making a generation of confusion! You can do as you will in your bedroom, that you’ll have to answer to God for but our children don’t need to see Harry and Larry or Mary and Carla kissing in public or on tv! I would say that is MORE damaging than what you’re trying to make of what Phil said.

  • Idiots

    The bible doesn’t give you the right to discriminate. End of story. The bible says Jews are going to hell because they don’t believe Jesus is the son of god. If he had made these statements about Jews it would be wrong. It’s just as wrong to say it about gays.

  • Ash

    You bigots are hilarious. “Why won’t you support my opinion that you’re not equal?!” A&E doesn’t stand by dehumanizing opinions and neither do I. Old B got what he deserved.

  • Ash

    Why do Christians keep saying how unfair it is that the media only supports one side of gay right. Supporters are doing no harm. Christians opinion stops people from marrying who they want. It’s discriminatory and hateful. It is not the same as supporting love. I can’t wait til you all die out.

  • ummm

    When did being homosexual become a race/ethinic class?????

  • soy

    who let these rednecks loose, they are all over the internet defending this crap.

  • Em

    @April: Amen. My thoughts exactly.

  • Ash

    Ole you bigots keep threatening to not watch A&E anymore. No one cares. I’ll watch it twice as much. Your boycott means nothing.

  • Sunshine

    @ummm:

    No one said it was a race or ethnic class, but it is a minority group represented in our population. I find it interesting that Christians are taking up arms against something like this, when they should be looking within at what has recently come to light about the Catholic church. I don’t remember reading anywhere in the Bible that it is okay to molest children.

  • as if

    @Great!: If he had said women should be stoned according to the bible would you still be praising him?
    In the past Christians said that the bible allowed for whites (who were considered superior) to enslave blacks.
    Man interprets the bible to fit their wants and needs not always to follow God’s will.
    You can believe what you want but others have the right to push back.
    @ummm: Don’t go there. According to Mr Robertson interview about Jim Crow, he is a racist. What man is happy to be told you are a second class human being. We will spit on you. We will tell you where you can eat. You will sit on the back of the bus and if a white person wants your sit you have to get up and give it to him.
    No God fearing person should believe that in the first place. Except if you are racist.

  • Healbone

    Lots of gay in Hollywood o well I guise if you are not gay you are not to voice your opinion

  • Will

    @Great!:
    If God’s word is the “same yesterday, today, and tomorrow” we should deny divorced people from remarrying, deny people from working on the Sabbath, and deny people from having tattoos.
    Are you also speaking out against those acts as well or just what you deem to be sinful?

  • Joya

    This bent dick should have been fired IMO just like Alec Baldwin.

    Martin Bashir was made to grovel and resign for stating the truth about Sarah Palin but this jerk is only :|”suspended”.

    I remember when A&E was actually quality TV. Disgusting!!!!!!

  • Sheyenne

    I don’t agree with what he said but you can’t get mad at the guy because of what he believes in. Everyone has different beliefs and people shouldn’t get mad at you just because they don’t agree with you. They should be happy he told the truth instead of lied. I don’t blame his family I wouldn’t film without him either. But I hope they put him back on the show and start filming again because I love the show.

    Every religion is against Homosexuality Christianity, Islam, Buddhist etc.. And even Secular society, Communism outlawed homosexuality . In 2013 in every muslin country you can be sentenced to death if you are caught in a gay act.. There are over 1 billion Muslims living under Islamic law, in places like Russia any gay act is criminalized, in most of Asia from China to India homosexuality is not to approved in public life… G A Y S in the West demand this demand that and want to take away some else’s rights if they are against what they believe .. Keep pushing because when the other side has enough and pushes back you wouldn’t like the results.. Homosexuality isn’t increasing in acceptance around the world , it is decreasing , only in the West, until people realize they want their rights above others.

    Why are people here who have a agenda calling them racist, funny how if you don’t believe G a Y sexuality and are white and southern you’re a racist too, when it’s blacks people in polls that are 2 times less likely to believe in G A Y lifestyle and marriage then whites…. Guess you can’t call then racist , poor G A Y PC police .

  • as if

    @Tommy: You must not have read Robertson’s entire interview. Read what he said about Jim Crow law and African Americans.

  • Lucy

    This whole ordeal comes down to freedom of speech and freedom of religion. What Phil Robertson thinks is what Phil Robertson thinks. When gov. and tv stations, producers, etc start throwing people out the door for expressing their opinions due to what their religious beliefs are, there is trouble. Although many don’t believe the same way as Phil or selectively interpret the bible differently due to the time and period it was written, or find that interpretation is different due to personal feelings and personal experience, there shouldn’t be punishment because the 1st amendment of the constitution ‘protects’ him.

  • one of us here

    I believe the Bible is God’s word, and I do not believe that people who are “practicing” a homosexual lifestyle at the time they die (or when Christ returns) will receive eternal life with our Lord. God made sure it was so plain and clear in the bible. You can’t even “try” to interpret it differently. However, I know God loves gay people. Of course he does, and Christians are also required to love them and tell them about God’s love and how deep it is for mankind. A gay person cannot decide to be straight and change who they are sexually attracted to. But they can stop burning in lust for one another, especially if they live long enough. This goes for straight people too. A lot of the sins of youth can and will be overcome with age. Many people simply lose interest in sex and many sinful practices as they grow old. The body and mind is no longer willing. That is a huge help to someone fighting those urges, as sexual lust is a common hurdle keeping many people from going toward the Lord when they are young. I personally believe that there will be gay people who give up the lifestyle and follow Christ before they die and they will make it into the next life. They have to give up the lifestyle, just like straight people have to give up the lifestyle of fornicating (sleeping around) while they are NOT married. You know how many straight people are locked into THAT lifestyle… even those in churches! Many live with people, have children out of wedlock and don’t even bat an eye. With the divorce rate so high, the majority of people fornicate on a regular basis. They do it and think that because they’re straight, God’s isn’t watching and they’re going to get a “free pass” into the pearly gates. No, they won’t. In fact, they are going to get a rude awakening as they beg and try to plead their innocence to the Almighty God who already knows the truth in their hearts. That is also very clear in the bible. People have to sacrifice something. Jesus gave his life for us, so that we can have life with him. People must change their thinking and lifestyles with God’s help. Actually God is the one who changes hearts & thoughts, but people have to want the change and beg him to do it. If straight people can’t find a spouse and stay married, they have no right to the benefits of marriage — and that includes sex. Sounds very restrictive, but to a person who really loves God and wants to be found worthy to receive eternal life, it’s something to desire. Anything we are afflicted with here — the worst of the worst — abuse, pain, suffering, mental diseases, sickness, depression — you name it, will be worth it if we are able to be with the Lord in the future. We will finally forget this life, all our tears, and have joy unspeakable. God promises us that.

  • Thank You!!

    @one of us here:

    That was very eloquently stated and a true explanation of the Word of God!

    God bless you!!

  • Mike

    I’ve read every single comment on here and I’ realized how many people didn’t read the interview. He was asked what a sin was and he said he determines a sin by the bible and it is a fact the bible said homosexuality is wrong. That is not hate speech, he did not say gays need to die. That would be hate speech. He also said that he would never treat a gay person badly, or treat them badly. I really wish people would figure out to distinguish the difference. Also, people are bring up Bashir. He said someone should do to Palin what they used to do to slaves and pooh in her mouth. That is a violent statement, and ridden with hate. There’s a difference between hate and disagreement. In regards to black people. He was speaking about personal experience. Yes people were violent against minorities but that was not the case everywhere. You’re talking about a place here where everyone is poor.

  • no

    Yes, he has a right to his backward beliefs. And I have a right to never tune into his show again. To never buy any of their merchandise for my sons. And to boycott any of their sponsors. Promoting hate goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Or were you guys not paying attention to that part of the Bible?
    Hate in the name of religion is what is wrong with this world.
    What has always been wrong.
    What part of ‘love thy neighbor’ do you not understand???
    @23
    Please explain EXACTLY how gay rights are taking the rights of others away?

  • @26

    So you think that it would be OK if he had used racial slurs? Should he keep his job if he threw out the ‘n’ word?
    This is no different.
    Just like any job, there are rules about how you act in public. He broke the rules. Simple as that.

  • Heidi

    @Vee: After him “homophobic slur” he then preached that he would never disrespect someone just because they are different from him. He also said that he thinks the world would be a better place if we loved each other and God. He spoke his religious belief and stayed loyal to the Almighty. That is the kind of man he is and that is the kind of man that should be publicly figured for our children to see.

  • NE1

    Where are all these anti gay people coming from? Good lord. I need a time machine to go back to last week so I not know the words Duck Dynasty. I was happier then.

  • Nikki

    This family is disgusting. I’ll never watch their show again. A bunch of white trash bigots.

  • Heidi

    So basically what you hypocritical double-standardized people are saying is “gays should be treated equally because they’re human and liking someone of the same sex is okay even though the Bible disagrees.” but “Making a simple statement about your religious beliefs, as a man who has been legitimately saved by his religion is totally wrong because it hurts homo’s feelings and so we should verbally abuse this religious man even though he, too is a human.”
    Phil Robertson stated his opinion along with a sincere statement of which included him believing we should all love each other and God, yet he’s the “bad guy.”

  • Lucy

    @@26: Pope Francis and Phil Robertson share same views on homosexuality. One wins Time’s Person of the Year the other gets fired from his tv show. I think it A&E that has a problem with free speech & religious freedom. Too bad athiests want God left off our money, our national anthems/prayers, monuments, schools & gov buildings. The USA is a melting pot of many cultures, religions, ethnicity and traditions. Phil Robertson voiced his opinion and quoted the bible. Did you know that earlier this month North Korea publicly executed 80 people, some for owning videos or Bibles. A&E has punished Robertson wrongly regardless how you feel.

  • Lauren

    Bye.

  • Shaniqua

    phil should move to russia – putin will turn him into a national hero

  • SHINE

    Gay Mafia strikes again

  • @35

    Would you be saying the same thing if he had used a racial slur, instead of attacking homosexuals? Probably. Since you felt free to use a homophobic slur in your comment, racial slurs are probably part of your vocabulary as well.
    What you people don’t understand is that freedom of speech carries great responsibility. You have a right to state your opinions and beliefs, but you will be held accountable for those comments. Hate is hate, no matter the target. He made the statements, now he must suffer the consequences.
    And freedom of religion is not what is in question here. Again. He has a right to his beliefs, just as you and I do. But freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. Free societies can’t force religious laws on its citizens. Quoting the bible as a reason that certain people don’t have the rights that others have in society goes against everything this country was founded upon. You forget that the first Europeans to come to America did so to get away from religious tyranny. Now you want to ignore their struggles to beat people over the head with your religious text.
    This country is free for a reason. And that reason is not found in your version of the bible.

  • Annie M

    Exactly! :

    As the “tolerant” left is most intolerant.
    The backlash is coming your way freaks!

    Had Phil been Muslim and said the very same thing NOTHING would happened. This is all about singling certain groups out to censor. The ultimate goal of selective political correctness is the loss of your 1st Amendment rights and the criminalization of speaking out against power. To see all of the suckers who buy into this nonsense because it agrees with your personal opinions and convictions is a joke. In the end it will be your own funeral. Tables will turn, they always do and next it will be you.
    You will also notice the attack on southern and rural people calling them stupid ugly, inbred, the products of incest etc. No problem there right?
    AND( I do not agree with what he said)

    God! Some of you guys are really awesome with your comments this morning. I’m Roman Catholic and I follow what I was taught at a very young age, “Treat People as You Would Want to be Treated”. I don’t care what color, what religion, where you’re from, as long as you treat me right. I will say this though, ‘Bible Thumpers’ are the people I dislike the most. They will use the bible to get away with horrible things and say it’s God’s word. Sorry, but God DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE MAN DID!!

    Left winger libs are the same as right winger conservatives. Both have huge blind spots and believe they are better and smarter than the other when in fact they behave in the exact same manner. It’s just a simpleton’s turf war.
