Phil Robertson's Family Refuses to Film 'Duck Dynasty' Without Him

The Robertson Family has just released a statement saying that they refuse to film their hit reality show Duck Dynasty without patriarch Phil Robertson, who was suspended by A&E over anti-gay comments he made to GQ.

“As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty,” the family said. Read the full statement inside the post.

A&E announced the suspension on Wednesday night and said “we are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson‘s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty.”

The suspension has elicited a debate all across the country about first amendment rights and whether Phil should have been suspended for voicing his own opinion.

DO YOU THINK Phil Robertson should have been suspended from Duck Dynasty?

Click inside to read the Robertson Family‘s full statement…

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

This whole ordeal comes down to freedom of speech and freedom of religion. What Phil Robertson thinks is what Phil Robertson thinks. When gov. and tv stations, producers, etc start throwing people out the door for expressing their opinions due to what their religious beliefs are, there is trouble. Although many don’t believe the same way as Phil or selectively interpret the bible differently due to the time and period it was written, or find that interpretation is different due to personal feelings and personal experience, there shouldn’t be punishment because the 1st amendment of the constitution ‘protects’ him.

    one of us here Says:

I believe the Bible is God’s word, and I do not believe that people who are “practicing” a homosexual lifestyle at the time they die (or when Christ returns) will receive eternal life with our Lord. God made sure it was so plain and clear in the bible. You can’t even “try” to interpret it differently. However, I know God loves gay people. Of course he does, and Christians are also required to love them and tell them about God’s love and how deep it is for mankind. A gay person cannot decide to be straight and change who they are sexually attracted to. But they can stop burning in lust for one another, especially if they live long enough. This goes for straight people too. A lot of the sins of youth can and will be overcome with age. Many people simply lose interest in sex and many sinful practices as they grow old. The body and mind is no longer willing. That is a huge help to someone fighting those urges, as sexual lust is a common hurdle keeping many people from going toward the Lord when they are young. I personally believe that there will be gay people who give up the lifestyle and follow Christ before they die and they will make it into the next life. They have to give up the lifestyle, just like straight people have to give up the lifestyle of fornicating (sleeping around) while they are NOT married. You know how many straight people are locked into THAT lifestyle… even those in churches! Many live with people, have children out of wedlock and don’t even bat an eye. With the divorce rate so high, the majority of people fornicate on a regular basis. They do it and think that because they’re straight, God’s isn’t watching and they’re going to get a “free pass” into the pearly gates. No, they won’t. In fact, they are going to get a rude awakening as they beg and try to plead their innocence to the Almighty God who already knows the truth in their hearts. That is also very clear in the bible. People have to sacrifice something. Jesus gave his life for us, so that we can have life with him. People must change their thinking and lifestyles with God’s help. Actually God is the one who changes hearts & thoughts, but people have to want the change and beg him to do it. If straight people can’t find a spouse and stay married, they have no right to the benefits of marriage — and that includes sex. Sounds very restrictive, but to a person who really loves God and wants to be found worthy to receive eternal life, it’s something to desire. Anything we are afflicted with here — the worst of the worst — abuse, pain, suffering, mental diseases, sickness, depression — you name it, will be worth it if we are able to be with the Lord in the future. We will finally forget this life, all our tears, and have joy unspeakable. God promises us that.

That was very eloquently stated and a true explanation of the Word of God!

    God bless you!!

I’ve read every single comment on here and I’ realized how many people didn’t read the interview. He was asked what a sin was and he said he determines a sin by the bible and it is a fact the bible said homosexuality is wrong. That is not hate speech, he did not say gays need to die. That would be hate speech. He also said that he would never treat a gay person badly, or treat them badly. I really wish people would figure out to distinguish the difference. Also, people are bring up Bashir. He said someone should do to Palin what they used to do to slaves and pooh in her mouth. That is a violent statement, and ridden with hate. There’s a difference between hate and disagreement. In regards to black people. He was speaking about personal experience. Yes people were violent against minorities but that was not the case everywhere. You’re talking about a place here where everyone is poor.

    no Says:

Yes, he has a right to his backward beliefs. And I have a right to never tune into his show again. To never buy any of their merchandise for my sons. And to boycott any of their sponsors. Promoting hate goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Or were you guys not paying attention to that part of the Bible?
Hate in the name of religion is what is wrong with this world.
    What has always been wrong.
What part of ‘love thy neighbor’ do you not understand???
Please explain EXACTLY how gay rights are taking the rights of others away?

    @26 Says:

So you think that it would be OK if he had used racial slurs? Should he keep his job if he threw out the ‘n’ word?
    This is no different.
Just like any job, there are rules about how you act in public. He broke the rules. Simple as that.

    Heidi Says:

@Vee: After him “homophobic slur” he then preached that he would never disrespect someone just because they are different from him. He also said that he thinks the world would be a better place if we loved each other and God. He spoke his religious belief and stayed loyal to the Almighty. That is the kind of man he is and that is the kind of man that should be publicly figured for our children to see.

Where are all these anti gay people coming from? Good lord. I need a time machine to go back to last week so I not know the words Duck Dynasty. I was happier then.

This family is disgusting. I’ll never watch their show again. A bunch of white trash bigots.

  10. 35
    Heidi Says:

So basically what you hypocritical double-standardized people are saying is “gays should be treated equally because they’re human and liking someone of the same sex is okay even though the Bible disagrees.” but “Making a simple statement about your religious beliefs, as a man who has been legitimately saved by his religion is totally wrong because it hurts homo’s feelings and so we should verbally abuse this religious man even though he, too is a human.”
Phil Robertson stated his opinion along with a sincere statement of which included him believing we should all love each other and God, yet he’s the “bad guy.”

    Lucy Says:

@@26: Pope Francis and Phil Robertson share same views on homosexuality. One wins Time’s Person of the Year the other gets fired from his tv show. I think it A&E that has a problem with free speech & religious freedom. Too bad athiests want God left off our money, our national anthems/prayers, monuments, schools & gov buildings. The USA is a melting pot of many cultures, religions, ethnicity and traditions. Phil Robertson voiced his opinion and quoted the bible. Did you know that earlier this month North Korea publicly executed 80 people, some for owning videos or Bibles. A&E has punished Robertson wrongly regardless how you feel.

    @35 Says:

Would you be saying the same thing if he had used a racial slur, instead of attacking homosexuals? Probably. Since you felt free to use a homophobic slur in your comment, racial slurs are probably part of your vocabulary as well.
What you people don’t understand is that freedom of speech carries great responsibility. You have a right to state your opinions and beliefs, but you will be held accountable for those comments. Hate is hate, no matter the target. He made the statements, now he must suffer the consequences.
And freedom of religion is not what is in question here. Again. He has a right to his beliefs, just as you and I do. But freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. Free societies can’t force religious laws on its citizens. Quoting the bible as a reason that certain people don’t have the rights that others have in society goes against everything this country was founded upon. You forget that the first Europeans to come to America did so to get away from religious tyranny. Now you want to ignore their struggles to beat people over the head with your religious text.
This country is free for a reason. And that reason is not found in your version of the bible.

Had Phil been Muslim and said the very same thing NOTHING would happened. This is all about singling certain groups out to censor. The ultimate goal of selective political correctness is the loss of your 1st Amendment rights and the criminalization of speaking out against power. To see all of the suckers who buy into this nonsense because it agrees with your personal opinions and convictions is a joke. In the end it will be your own funeral. Tables will turn, they always do and next it will be you.
You will also notice the attack on southern and rural people calling them stupid ugly, inbred, the products of incest etc. No problem there right?

God! Some of you guys are really awesome with your comments this morning. I’m Roman Catholic and I follow what I was taught at a very young age, “Treat People as You Would Want to be Treated”. I don’t care what color, what religion, where you’re from, as long as you treat me right. I will say this though, ‘Bible Thumpers’ are the people I dislike the most. They will use the bible to get away with horrible things and say it’s God’s word. Sorry, but God DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE MAN DID!!

Left winger libs are the same as right winger conservatives. Both have huge blind spots and believe they are better and smarter than the other when in fact they behave in the exact same manner. It’s just a simpleton’s turf war.
