'Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' Edges Out 'Wolf of Wall Street' at Christmas Box Office

Christmas Day box office numbers are rolling in, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug just narrowly beat out new opener The Wolf of Wall Street by just a marginal amount, Variety reports.

The Hobbit film took in $9.3 million on Christmas Day, while the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer The Wolf of Wall Street made just under that amount with $9.2 million.

Will Ferrell‘s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues came in at number three with $8.1 million earned.

Coming in at fourth place was also another new opener The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which earned $7.8 million.

Keanu Reaves47 Ronin and Sylvester Stallone‘s Grudge Match also were new openers, but did not fare as well at the box office, bringing in $7 million and $4 million, respectively.
