Lea Michele – “Battlefield” Lyrics

It’s easy to fall in love, but it’s so hard to
Break somebody’s heart
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Once lust has turned to dust and all that’s left’s held breath

Forgotten who we first met
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it’s coming, does illusion count for something – we hide
The surface tension’s gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

You and I we have to let each other go

We keep holding on but we both know
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun
Be strong for both of us, no please don’t run, don’t run
Eye to eye we face our fears unarmed on the battlefield

We seemed like a good idea

No blood

Will spill if we both get out now
Still it’s hard to put the fire out
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Feelings are shifting like the tide, and I think too much about the future

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it’s coming, does illusion count for something – we hide
The surface tension’s gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

We seemed like a good idea (x4)

    her face is a Battlefield

    Sophia Says:

God this is such a snooze fest. Did she write this gem? She says Battlefield at least two hundred times. There are other words in the dictionary, Lea.

    be nice Says:

@Sophia: actually maybe 10 times but I guess counting isn’t your forte. Hum a chorus that repeats its self that has never been done before in a pop song.

  16. 16
    Kelly Says:

Very nice song. I like the piano and the slow build with other instrument but mainly the piano. She has a great voice.

  17. 17
    Polka Says:

@Sophia: she didn’t, I guess it’s written by Sia Furler

    Alexandra Says:

This about her ex-boyfriend, Theo? Could be a weird coincidence, but it’s his birthday today and this song is obviously about a tough breakup…

  25. 25
    Theo fan Says:

@Alexandra: Well since Sia wrote it, it is not about to anyone specific in Lea’s life. But she could probably relate. I always believed Lea/Theo when they said their relationship just ran its course.

  26. 26
    blah Says:

    @Swiftie: becasue she can.

  27. 27
    IffyMiffy Says:

Nothing special though better than the first. She has a voice that is so much better than both of these songs. Pity.

  28. 28
    Marianne Says:

That was a lot better than Cannonball. This should have been her first single!!!!

  29. 29
    Kay Says:

Absolutely stunning voice!! Wow I really like this song. Great job lea, can’t wait for the full album.

    Cece Says:

    Beautiful song. Talented singer!

  31. 31
    Alex Says:

This song just made my day. So relatable. Love it definitely

  32. 32
    Ray Says:

@IffyMiffy: she’s done a pop song, she’s done a ballad…what exactly would be the song to satisfy you?..would you feel like her voice was better suited if she yodelled??

  33. 33
    Gunny Says:

@Sophia: You don’t even know if she wrote the song but took the opportunity to insult her anyway? FYI: She did not write the song. She is definitely showing more of her range on this song – great.

  34. 34
    1mer Says:

This song is about a bad relationship, The media and Lea haters will have a field day speculating about her relationship with Cory. I don’t know if I will be able to listen to this song. Just reading the lyrics broke my heart. I know that she said that he had heard all of the previous recorded songs on the album, I would love to know why she chose to release this one second. “Cannonball” was the most perfect song to release first.

  35. 35
    Gunny Says:

@Theo fan: I agree, plus they lived on separate coasts and that makes it difficult.

  36. 36
    Gunny Says:

@1mer: Artists don’t always have much say about what songs get released first, but I think she did get to pick the first song. But, since Cory did hear this song, I don’t think it was about him. Plus, sometimes it’s not even about a person, it can be a metaphor for something else. Only the writer knows and that is what is so great about music, poems, etc., everyone feels it in different ways.

  37. 37
    Nikki Says:

I love it. But I think she still needs stronger hits… I would love to see her like the new Celine Dion, to be honest. Ballads would be HER thing and she totally has ALL the potential, and she can bring uniqueness to the table. I have all my faith in her. I am rooting for her. This song is beautiful, and I can’t wait to see her getting stronger and happier.

  38. 38
    1mer Says:

@Gunny: I agree with you on that and she has been very open about which songs were dedicated to him, but the haters will tear her to shreds. I love her and wish her the best in life. I can just see the headlines now “proof….etc, etc.)

  39. 39
    hahaha Says:

No one stays with this arrogant beeeotch for long. How many years will she milk the death of CM?

  40. 40
    Min Says:

@hahaha: Probably until Dianna Agron’s newly stitched ****** stretches back out again. Now that’s a fat ass that sure gets around.

  41. 41
    Cosi Says:

Gorgeous song, gorgeous voice, gorgeous girl. Happy I pre-ordered the album. Really looking forward to it now.

  42. 42
    Martin Duff Says:

Woooow. I’ts a perfect song! Beautiful

  43. 43
    Gunny Says:

@1mer: I still can’t quite figure out why people feel the need to write hateful remarks, but they do. The only evidence will come from Lea stating it on video – everything else is pure speculaton/gossip and she didn’t even write the song so why do people think it’s about her life? Oh well – I love it and I love her and I don’t follow her blindly, to be honest I’m not wild about the cover picture for Louder.

  44. 44
    Rui Says:

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Love You Lea <3

  45. 45

    It’s amazing, she’s amazing…! Can’t wait for March 4th!

Were these lyrics stolen from a 12 year old’s diary?

  48. 48
    lluvia Says:

    AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT

  49. 49
    Bee Says:

You know, not every negative comment is about hating on someone. I adore Lea and she has an amazing voice, but neither of her songs have moved me. Cannonball sounded over-processed and over-accented and Battlefield just drags. We have all heard so much better from her and these are just disappointing to me..

  50. 50
    geneva carrasco Says:

omg I swear I love lea’s voice soooooooo much

  51. 51
    Shelby Anne Sharp Says:

I love this song just like I did with Cannonball, She is so amazing. I can’t wait for her album to come out. She is not only beautiful, she is talented, strong, and so so so amazing.

  52. 52
    Mariah Reyes Says:

    Lea’s voice is flawless

  53. 53
    Meghan Says:

@Bee: It’s over-accented because she’s a Broadway singer to the core. She will always project and enunciate that way. She has proper vocal training, so she will never be lazy on pronunciation like other pop stars because she’s trained to sing strong and clear. You will never hear a theater trained singer perform like Katy Perry. Not that I’m insulting Katy, I’m just saying there’s a style that you can not shake once it’s taught. Idina Menzel, when she put out her album, had the same issue. It’s not a bad thing at all; they know how to sing and they know how to do it damn well, but it is what it is. Her whole album will probably be performed like Cannonball.

  54. 54
    Theo fan Says:

@Gunny: But that is just it they didn’t live on separate coast at the end . Theo moved to La in Feb 2011 byt Aug 2011 they were done. Living together can change thing especially after a long distance relationship.

  55. 55
    Good song Says:

@Meghan: except Battlefield doesn’t even sound as theatrical. I find it funny that having a clear voice and being able to understand what the singer is saying is perceived as bad.

  56. 56
    sad Says:

@1mer: the haters don’t need a reason. Just being the focus is enough for others to hate celebrity. It is all resentment and very very sad.

  57. 57
    CC Says:

I don’t care for Michele, but I do have to admit that it’s a lovely song, so much better than Naya’s electronic pop, because you can actually feel the singer’s emotions in this one.

  58. 58
    Vivian Says:

Not a fan of her voice and the song is decent.

  59. 59
    Dada6262 Says:

    LEAAAAA <3 WOOW ! :''D

  60. 60
    DJ Says:

This is not a very good song, shes trying to hard to have a hit album,
so far none of her songs have any lasting quality. I think Lea needs to take some time off and re invent herself. She has the pipes just needs some time away from performance work.

  61. 61
    Meghan Says:

@Good song: Battlefield isn’t at theatrical, but she’s still performing it like a true Broadway singer. I wish radio was filled with more Lea Michele’s than singers who can’t even hold a note. I have no idea why it’s perceived as bad because say whatever you want about Lea, a bad singer she most certainly is not. I’ve been a fan of her voice since Spring Awakening. I’m almost ticked off that “Glee” has turned her into a typical Hollywood actress gone songstress in the general public’s eye because, unlike most of young Hollywood with a catchy pop tune, she belongs on the stage.

  62. 62
    Alla Says:

if you think her voice is good, you obviously know nothing about vocal technique or training.

  63. 63
    Lizzy Says:

@Alla: Wow then by that statement you must be saying that the many trained singers and other industry professionals who speak so highly of Lea’s impeccable technique are all wrong. Lea has an incredible voice with strength, clarity, and tone that most could only dream of having. She has perfect pitch and a range that is to die for.

  64. 64
    Meghan Says:

@Alla: It’s clear that you don’t know. I’ve studied vocal training for nearly 15 years. She’s vocally talented. Even if you personally don’t like her singing, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have proper technique because she does. She’s been trained by the best in the business, including daily while performing on Broadway in her winning musical. Please, tell me Alla, where have you trained and what Broadway soundtracks can I hear you on? Which itunes songs of yours can I download? …or better yet, I’d love to hear you live…what theater are you performing at? Do you perform? Do you train? Who have you trained? Where do you teach? If you can not answer any of those questions, then I’d love to know what right you have to judge Lea.

  65. 65
    Bee Says:

Frankly, it does not matter how well she is trained, or how perfect her vocal techniques are – what matters (to her and her team) is that she charts and remains there, and so far she seems to chart – then quickly fall. It does not look like her songs are appealing to those outside her fan base, at least so far. Maybe more releases will help.

  66. 66
    j Says:

I preferred her first song. TBH even if she and cory were still together people take this song as having some meaning which it probably doesnt have. but these songs are written for her so obvs have some meaning in her life… sure she’ll tell the magazines about it soon, again.

  67. 67
    Liz Says:

It’s just another generic pop song by someone who thinks belting out every note is the same as singing. This girl has no emotion. It’s whisper, belt, whisper, belt, belt, belt. That’s not emotion, that’s just crappy singing.

  68. 68
    Z Says:

    That is awful
