Gerard Butler Flashes Bulging Biceps for Coffee Run!

Gerard Butler shows off his bulging guns while grabbing a cup of coffee on Monday (January 6) in West Hollywood, Calif.

A few weeks ago, the 44-year-old Scottish actor was spotted flashing a smile while enjoying some time on the beach in Miami, Fla.

It was recently announced that Courtney Eaton will be joining Gerard in the upcoming film Gods of Egypt, which also stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Geoffrey Rush, and Brenton Thwaites.

Gods of Egypt centers on a “feud between the gods set into motion when ruling god Set (Butler) kills Osiris.”

His biceps are bigger than your head. Why do Celts have such beefy arms? Looks good though.

It was strange yesterday not being able to post anything and it only seemed to be on Gerry’s threads. Also, I seem to remember that it happened once before, does anyone else remember?

At the end of the last thread there is news of an interview by mad maddie and she’s claiming she and GB broke up but remain friends and she also claims they tried for a reconciliation but as she has told so many lies and made up more stories than Hans Christian Anderson how can anybody believe her?

It’s almost impossible trying to discern the truth from MG because she never tells the same story twice. The important thing is that it’s definitely over between them and she’s finally admitting to it. Here’s to an MG-free 2014!

    Keyvani's Kathryn Says:

It’s so cold here in Alex today and I wanted my lug to come and warm me up. I could use a cup of coffee and his big arms around me. They never broke up because they were never together it was only a sham all along. I told you he wasn’t into her. He still likes his real friends instead. He’ll never have anyone like me. He should come and find me and rescue me because I’m better than everyone else.

    Paisley Says:

Hey JJ…just curious. Why haven’t you mentioned the week Mr. Butler spent in Liberia, Africa working with Scottish charity Mary’s Meals last month? MM provides nutritious lunches to hungry schoolchildren in Africa’s poorest, most remote villages.

  18. 18
    Paisley Says:

Okay, okay JJ. I exaggerated. It wasn’t a whole week – just several days but still. Maybe you didn’t cover it because you get all of your GB “info” from the paparazzi.?

  19. 19

MG admits they broke up 7 months ago on one of her Facebook pages in response to some fan comments. Or it was there yesterday. She must have been in need of some attention or she still has Fassbender on the hook or she’s got a new man.

    eurotrash Says:

Poor Fassy indeed – she is playing the same games. How does it get out that he had a seat on a flight from Bucharest to Milan and I wonder how easy would it be to book a seat in someone’s name and if no one shows up who’s the wiser. The article doesn’t say he was seen on this flight just a seat was reserved in his name. I didn’t know that airlines or travel agencies were allowed to give out passenger information.

  31. 31
    very interesting Says:

    @eurotrash:
A passenger on the flight said they spoke to Fassy:
“I flew the plane yesterday with Michael Fassbender. Only returning to Milan. I do not know what he did in the country, but be booked in Business Class. Stood at 1F. A friend of mine, who held all the business, entered into conversation with him and talked about his movies. It was very helpful and friendly,” said a passenger aircraft exclusively for ADPM.

  32. 32
    eurotrash Says:

Never mind – did not read far enough down someone claims to have seen him.

  33. 33
    MF Says:

@eurotrash: the art says this: He was in a Tarom flight from Bucharest to Milan – alone and this is what one of the passengers are saying about him:
” “I was in the same plane yesterday with Michael Fassbender. He was returning to Milan. I do not know what he did in the country, but be booked in Business Class. He had 1F seat. A friend of mine, who booked at business class, got into conversation with him and talked about his movies. It was very kind and friendly, “said a passenger exclusively for ADPM.”

    MF Says:

Now, tabloids are not reliable but on her fb is a pic with a man (you can see only a little bit of his face) and when people started to say is GB she deny immediately (usually she doesn’t bother). The man’s got blond/ginger hair, so almost sure he is not Romanian. I think she said they split 7 mo ago to please that man (Fassy or not)

  66. 66
    very interesting Says:

MG is being very chatty with her fans today. Someone asked her about the Grazia interview in November where MG seemed to indicate she and Gerry were still together. MG answered and said the interview was actually done in May, but not published until November. She then highlighted a passage from the Grazia interview saying, “Anyway there is one of my answers that they published (if you read the interview) and that is the answer to everything.” This is the passage she highlighted:
“It is not easy to predict what will happen, we did projects in this regard. At the moment I would say that we’re going more in the direction of a friendship or as a wedding.” (Google translate, but I think you get the gist.)
    .
She still hasn’t said anything about the Io Donna interview where she boasted of their “reconciliation” in June, after Gerry’s surprise trip to Rome. I doubt she ever will address it.

  67. 67
    TRULY INTERESTED Says:

@eurotrash: if you look at the pic carefully (fully opened) in her Instagram there is a guy about to kiss her or something else…and her admitting the she and GB broke up 7 months ago is there (not on her FB pg) but she refers to him as ”Mr. Butler” interesting.

  68. 68
    very interesting Says:

    @More from MG:
Sorry, I didn’t see your posts. I think we all figured the Grazie interview was an old one, so I’m not surprised it was. It’s the Io Donna interview that is a problem for MG’s new version of events, so I’m guessing she’s going to stay silent about that one.

  69. 69
    very interesting Says:

    @TRULY INTERESTED:
One of MG’s fans wrote, “Lovely picture, is that Mr Butler next to you?? x”.
    Madalina responded, “that’s not “Mr.Butler” :)”

  70. 70
    TRULY INTERESTED Says:

@very interesting: yes, but why respond with ”Mr Butler” instead of writing Gerard or Gerry? I mean they were living together for a bit – at least in Shreveport back when. I just sounds so childlike??, professional??, slightly pissed??

  72. 72

@Laruj: Add to that actors, rock stars, directors, producers, professional athletes. I guess Really has never read about Heidi Fleiss or the Mayflower Madam. Saudi princes are big importers of American escorts.

  73. 73
    eurotrash Says:

That prostitution scandal with Berlusconi was interesting. Elizabetta Canalis was somehow involved. Bet she knows all about being paid for services rendered.

  74. 74
    Dalhousie Says:

@Really?: Excellent point my friend. None of these wealthy famous handsome men needs to pay anyone for sex unless they get off on doing so. They have thousands of women throwing themselves at them every year. What Fass and Butler have in common is that they have more choice than the average guy. That’s why they choose the young beauties.

What most of you seem to overlook (probably because you don’t date or never dated in your life) is that while some men pay women, they don’t stick around to show them off in public. GB and MG did stick together. I believe Fass is way more private.

I think she refers to him as “Mr Butler” because of the ad they did together.

  75. 75

So MG still with Fasha. Maybe she happy and say so for that reason.

  86. 86
    Tuesday Morning Says:

@Dalhousie: She’s referring to him as “Mr. Butler” because the fan who posed the question called him that. We know nothing about the lives of these people because they are nothing like ours. Men and even some women of their status and wealth don’t operate on a daily basis like the rest of us do unless they make a concerted effort to do so but that would mean not living or hanging out in LA. It’s safer for these people to “buy” sex then to find it the regular way because of who they are and the people out there trying to use them or get at their money. It makes sense. I think G and M had a legitimate relationship but I think they both knew and understood going in it had no future. Gerry’s all about having fun in the moment and taking things as far as he derives pleasure from it. When that ceases to happen, he moves on. Women her age are easier targets for that kind of thing because they seldom want to settle down. They’re young and aspiring and while he’s getting a steady girlfriend and companion for sex, she’s getting the publicity. It’s a fair exchange and no body is the worse for wear.

  87. 87
    harajuku Says:

In Japan the “hire a date” or “hire a boyfriend or girlfriend” is big business and it is not necessarily about sex but just companionship. Because the young Japanese claim works such long hours, hard to find love outside of work.

  88. 88
    Dalhousie Says:

@harajuku: I think this is why he spends so much time at fashion shows and clubs where models hang out. He knows what he likes and those women tend to throw themselves at him at times.

  89. 89
    She always done that Says:

@hmmm: She would often post something on her FB that she hoped would piss off GBs fans and then remove it after a couple of hours.

Nothing like seeing him in the front seat at Renzo Rosso’s Diesel show a while back. NY Magazine did an article and a comment was made: “They get it. Butler-holics love him because he’s accessible. Because we might get caught up in the “Tractor Beam of Yes” because he will literally bone anyone. What’s so wrong about wanting to have a roll in the proverbial hay with The Butler, for one night only? By the way, I LOOOOVE his game. He’s so old-school! The chat-up, the smooth hand drop. I bet he leaned in and looked directly into her eyes too. God bless Scotsmen.”
Hope he goes to the GG’s, the Oscars and everything in between.

@ Jake: Good. We want him to be happy. We don’t want him to be used. He starting dating Hot Lips while on drugs and just out of rehab. He was off and many of us felt he was being taken advantage of after a fashion. Most of us thought she was gorgeous and then she started all kinds games on FB and here. Then no one liked that. He was vulnerable. He looked horrible and sick. I do think he genuinely cared for her, but she just wants fame.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age#Europe

Click on Europe, scroll down to the United Kingdom:

“The minimum age for the purchase of alcohol is 18.[92] People aged 16 or 17 may consume wine, beer or cider on licensed premises when ordered with a meal.[1] In England and Wales, it must be an adult who orders;[93] however, an adult doesn’t have to be present to order alcohol with a meal in Scotland. The legal age for the purchase of alcohol from an off-licence (store/supermarket) is 18. (The legal age to buy liqueur chocolates is 16, but this is rarely enforced.)[citation needed]

It is illegal to give children under 5 alcohol unless under medical supervision or in an emergency (Children and Young Persons Act 1933, Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act 1937).[94][95]

If you’re five or over and under 16, there is no legal restriction on you drinking alcohol at home or on other private premises. [96]

Purchasing alcohol on behalf of a minor is illegal in all of the United Kingdom. This means acting as the young person’s agent.[97][98]

Under the BBPA’s Challenge 21 scheme, customers attempting to buy alcoholic beverages are asked to prove their age if in the retailer’s opinion they look under 21 even though the law states they must be a minimum of 18. Many supermarket and off-licence chains display Challenge 21 notices stating that they will not serve persons who look under 21 without ID.

Supermarkets or off-licence chains that are found to have violated the law and have repeatedly sold alcohol to underage persons are then required to adopt the Challenge 25 scheme. Failing to adhere to this may result in revocation of the licence to sell alcohol. (Challenge 25 is standard procedure in Scotland and the main supermarket chains.)”

  154. 154
    Not so Says:

@Yes way: The legal age for buying alcohol in the UK was lowered from 21 in the late seventies when soldiers complained that they could be sent to die for their country but couldn’t buy a drink when they were on leave.

If he was drinking heavily at that age then he would regularly have been drunk and his family would have noticed. The school would have noticed especially if it meant he was absent because of it (and you don’t become head pupil if you are regularly drunk and absent) and social services would have been involved. I am not saying that he didn’t touch alcohol as a teenager but certainly not to the extend that has been claimed.

    Harassment by computer Says:

Cyberbullying is the willful and repeated use of cell phones, computers, and other electronic communication devices to harass and threaten others. Instant messaging, chat rooms, e-mails, and messages posted on websites are the most common methods of this new twist of bullying. Cyberbullies can quickly spread messages and images to a vast audience, while remaining anonymous, often making them difficult to trace. It is challenging to characterize cyberbullying in legislation however, language has included electronic communication, cyberbullying, and electronic and internet intimidation.

  169. 169
    Harassment by computer Says:

Cyberharassment differs from cyberstalking in that it may generally be defined as not involving a credible threat. Cyberharassment usually pertains to threatening or harassing email messages, instant messages, or to blog entries or websites dedicated solely to tormenting an individual. Some states approach cyberharrassment by including language addressing electronic communications in general harassment statutes, while others have created stand-alone cyberharassment statutes.

    Wednesday's Child Says:

Gerard Butler may look solid as a rock (his chest certainly seems to be made of granite), but he’s only human on the inside.

“Maybe a stronger person wouldn’t have needed to go,” the Scottish actor says in the November issue of Men’s Journal, talking about the three weeks he spent at the Betty Ford Center in February.

“When you hear the word rehab, you think, ‘He’s a mess, he’s f–ked up.’ But I’m glad I did it. I’ve made a s–tload of wrong decisions in my life. But I know I’ve made some right ones as well.”

To be clear, Butler emphasizes that he didn’t go to rehab for alcohol abuse, a rumor that really “pissed [him] off.”

“I haven’t had a drink in 15 years,” says the Bounty Hunter star, who admits to having an addictive personality. Rather, he checked into a pain-management program after being injured in a surfing accident while shooting Chasing Mavericks, which comes out Friday.

“I was actually taking a minimal amount [of pills] when I went in,” Butler recalls. “It was more about becoming a mental warrior and not letting pain bother you. The [instructor] would say, ‘I don’t want to hear about your f–king MRIs or your f–king X-rays…Let’s learn how to say to the pain, ‘F–k you.’”

As for the accident, during which Butler was pushed underwater by a wave for almost a minute, he says he had “visceral” flashbacks and his mind ended up in a place where he “didn’t want it to be.”

“They really do rip you apart,” Butler says of rehab, which he compares to “spring cleaning.” “You get rid of a bunch of s–t, realize a bunch more s–t, and you make a plan.”

Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization.[1] It may include the making of false accusations or statements of fact (as in defamation), monitoring, making threats, identity theft, damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sex, or gathering information that may be used to harass. The definition of “harassment” must meet the criterion that a reasonable person, in possession of the same information, would regard it as sufficient to cause another reasonable person distress.[2] Cyberstalking is different from spatial or offline stalking in that it occurs through the use of electronic communications technology such as the internet. However, it sometimes leads to it, or is accompanied by it.[3] Both are criminal offenses.[4] Cyberstalking shares important characteristics with offline stalking; many stalkers – online or off – are motivated by a desire to control their victims.[5]

A cyberstalker may be an online stranger or a person whom the target knows. A cyberstalker may be anonymous and may solicit involvement of other people online who do not even know the target.

Cyberstalking is a criminal offense that comes into play under state anti-stalking laws, slander laws, and harassment laws. A cyberstalking conviction can result in a restraining order, probation, or even criminal penalties against the assailant, including jail.

If such inquiry occurred a cyber investigation would commence tracking down the culprit and this site would have to cooperate. If proof was detected consequences could escalate past fines to jail time. Cooperative individuals knowing this stalker could come forth to determine whom this person is easy enough. At a cross-road in life this hardly seems like a wise practice to continue. Running the risk of losing their credentials should be enough for a certain cyber stalker to take fair warning.

Certain forms of cyberstalking also may be prosecuted under 47 U.S.C. 223. One provision of this statute makes it a federal crime, punishable by up to two years in prison, to use a telephone or telecommunications device to annoy, abuse, harass, or threaten any person at the called number. The statute also requires that the perpetrator not reveal his or her name. See 47 U.S.C. 223(a)(1)(C). Although this statute is broader than 18 U.S.C. 875 — in that it covers both threats and harassment — Section 223 applies only to direct communications between the perpetrator and the victim. Thus, it would not reach a cyberstalking situation where a person harasses or terrorizes another person by posting messages on a bulletin board or in a chat room encouraging others to harass or annoy another person. Moreover, Section 223 is only a misdemeanor, punishable by not more than two years in prison.

The Interstate Stalking Act, signed into law by President Clinton in 1996, makes it a crime for any person to travel across state lines with the intent to injure or harass another person and, in the course thereof, places that person or a member of that person’s family in a reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury. See 18 U.S.C. 2261A. Although a number of serious stalking cases have been prosecuted under Section 2261A, the requirement that the stalker physically travel across state lines makes it largely inapplicable to cyberstalking cases.

Finally, President Clinton signed a bill into law in October 1998 that protects children against online stalking. The statute, 18 U.S.C. 2425, makes it a federal crime to use any means of interstate or foreign commerce (such as a telephone line or the Internet) to knowingly communicate with any person with intent to solicit or entice a child into unlawful sexual activity. While this new statute provides important protections for children, it does not reach harassing phone calls to minors absent a showing of intent to entice or solicit the child for illicit sexual purposes.

Well, maybe it will go the way of a few others that never got made. Hate myself for saying that, but that’s how I feel. Getting tired of all the killing as well. Get enough of that on the evening news. I don’t want relevant, I want a Nottin Hill kind of movie too. Something where he can use his good timing with humour and a love story.
Besides that, i don’t want him surfing again.
If GOE is a smash hit, which I hope it will be, what’s wrong with doing a sequel for that? Going to make some hot chocolate and maybe that will make me feel softer toward his choice. Doubt it though.
Hope everybody is safe and warm and glad you had the day off a couple of days ago Lolita.

    B movies Says:

A movie reviewer discussed Olympus Has Fallen in a year end summary of the Best & Worst Movies of the Year. He actually liked OHF. He was pleased that Butler was in a good B action movie for a change, where the reviewer said “Butler excels”, rather than “those wretched rom-coms”. He further commented that Butler “could not have felt good at the end of each day on set making those horrible rom coms”. He felt Butler needs to do more movies like OHF. Is B moviedom his Hollywood destiny?

    SUNKIST Says:

    @Ducky: Well said Ducky.
Surfer guru (CM) is OK for a middle-aged man, but these roles worked only with much younger actors. Imo.
Gerry needs something out of His comfort zone, maybe even a “My left foot” tour-de-force. I know He has it in Him. Anything less would just be… less. He has the talent and drive to create an Epic, filled with Real Acting, and not filled with CGI/ splatter. I could even see Him do a better version of “Brigadoon”, singing and dancing. He has a World of opportunities at His fingertips, if He will just reach forward and take them!

@B movies: He’ll be going to LFW network soon to do movies of the week. Time for him to get his gay on and show us what he’s really packing in his jeans. They need to create a gay channel for us and Gerry’s needs.

    Food for Thought Says:

@SUNKIST: Maybe Gerry is not interested in doing the kind of movies you want to see him do, then what?

  238. 238
    SUNKIST Says:

@Food for Thought: Gerry has spoken often of His ambition to not repeat Himself in roles, and avoid either getting type-cast, or finding Himself in a “rut”. He has said that He takes great pride in being an Actor. Stretching ones acting muscles is the ambition of EVERY serious actor. Too many “Stars” get caught up in the back-end deals instead of remembering how very hard they have worked to hone their craft. “There are no small parts, only small actors”,( Marlon Brando). I don’t think the rom-com’s were to His liking, and frankly it showed. He has the talent necessary to accomplish incredible film-making, and the interest in seeing His recognition as a top actor, not just an (aging) sex-symbol. His going to that class recently is certainly on that tack.
He pushed Himself to drop Law to pursue acting. Maybe now is a good time for Him to drop the formula money-makers, and pursue acting again. jmho

  239. 239
    sweet 'n sour Says:

Gerry can’t do movies he isn’t offered. Given the career slump he’s in, I find it highly unlikely he’s being offered any “tour-de-force” films. Those projects are being offered to the acting A-list. The same goes with any projects Gerry wants to produce. He probably can’t get any funding to produce an epic historical piece. He’s had too many box-office flops. No one is going to want to take the financial risk. The only recent success he has had, was for an action film, so that is likely the only genre that’s giving him offers right now, at least if he keeps insisting on lead roles. Personally, I think his manager and agent need to be fired.

And about the other project, Kane and Lynch, I have yet to see a great film adaptation of a game. (being a gamer-chick myself, have played most of them) Kane and Lynch isn`t a well known franchise though, so maybe the expectations won`t be as high as for some of the other games to films.

    Prancing Pony Says:

Wow, some really interesting reactions and thoughtful posts here about the possibility of GB getting involved in a Point Break remake. Typically posters here are a lot more supportive and open-minded about possible roles – especially since this, like many lately, hasn’t actually been confirmed. (I don’t mean to sound harsh here)
Personally, I’m not into remakes/reboots. I don’t see the point. However, having said that, the basic premise of the film sounds OK (I haven’t seen the original). And it’s certainly not a stretch for me to imagine GB playing the role of “Bodhi, the charismatic leader of a gang of surfers…”. I think he’s good at playing those kind of characters.
He is capable of so much more, but, at the end of the day he seems to want to be a “working actor” no matter what (maybe sacrificing quality for quantity?). Dunno. I’ve heard him say in many promo tour interviews, when asked about why he chose a particular role, that he liked the script and thought it was “commercial” i.e. he thought it would make money, not win an Oscar. It wouldn’t surprise me if GB ends up making this film. Afterall, he’s got to keep a roof over his head! ;)

I am quite excited at the idea of seeing Gerry surfing again, perhaps because I truly love CM and I believe he can make any role his if he wishes so.
I agree with people saying he can do so much more, but I guess that when it comes to it, there are so many factors which influence his role choices, who knows what he has been offered? Some roles are interesting as an idea but perhaps when it comes to the actual script they might have not been made as good as he wants them, also he does have the need to stay relevant in the industry and. despite our preferences, when he took on more in depth roles he has not been given much recognition as he hoped.
I am not totally against remakes, Dracula by F F Coppola was one of the best remakes ever made, and even The Phantom Of The Opera was! I can see him in the role, and I like his acting so, until I have actually watched the movie, I’d rather stay hopeful he does a great job than diss this project because someone has already played that role.

The more I read and think about this project, the more I like the idea. There, I said it. :)
It’s a bit different and visually could be really exciting to watch with some stunning locations thrown in for good measure. I also think GB would be believable as an adrenaline junkie.
It’s a shame they won’t be filming in Queenstown, NZ, (widely acknowledged as the adventure/extreme sport capital of the world). But unfortunately us Kiwi’s aren’t world-renowned for appealing bank heist targets….;)

  327. 327
    fromoz Says:

@Prancing Pony: Hi Pony, G’day from W.A. to you. Not too sure about G.B. being involved in this project. Fans of this film have turned it in to a cult classic & Patrick S is a much loved person. G.B taking on his character might be a bit risky as far as fan outrage goes. This remake is going to be hard to pull off & could end up being the biggest mistake of G.B.’s career. I’ll have to stay on the fence about this, until I hear more about how they intend changing this up from the original. Right now though, I think it’s a huge risk. Cheers Pony :-)

Guys it’s just a movie. You’d rather another Playiing for Keeps instead?

P B was widely scorned because of Reeves. This was before Speed. He was just coming out of the stoner teen series Bill and Ted. PB got a cult following after video. Like Austin Powers did. Not that many people have seen it. I saw it once. It’s a good movie. Basically a bank robber story. Rocknrola was a similar film.

    Prancing Pony Says:

@Thoughts: “You’d rather another Playiing for Keeps instead?”
    NO!*
*I actually watched PFK for the first time (I know, I know…) a couple of days ago. I just want to say that GB’s individual performance was no where near as bad as people made it out to be. In fact, i thought it was ok. However, I have no idea what possessed CZJ and UT to take those roles *shaking head*.

Here we go again everyone hates it before it is even made. I remember so many of you saying, once OHF came our or the trailer was put out, wait until WHD comes out and you will see better acting, graphics, etc. As it turned out critics panned it waiting for WHD too but once WHD came out it was a given Gerry was good in the role and OHF was better. Lets wait till the movie is made, I’m sure they will put a different twist to it. Give him a chance don’t always be ready to hammer the nail to the cross. He is a good actor, like him or not. @just a thought: The only word that comes to mind reading your post is “balanced”. Good girl. There are a few links that I read today that spell it out that this movie will not be the same as BP. Not just taking place in Ca. but globally and not a surfing movie. Read one comment that it was compared to Chasing Mavericks. Obviously by some who don’t know what they are talking about, just critical.
So I totally agree with you on the wait and see. I doubt he would have gone into this without a clue how it will be taken by the critical. But he saw something more, exciting and worthwhile. He isn’t blind nor uneducated in his industry.
Now he needs an outstanding cast and script to support him in his role. And to me that is the determining factor. He had that in OHF and seems to have it so far in GOE and needs it once again for this one. I have all confidence in his acting ability.. If you build it, they will come and I really, truthfully want him to stretch himself this coming year.
One more thing and then I’ll be quiet. I hope the insurance company is hot on productions tail and gets stuntmen for those crazy scenes that will be coming up in each one of the 3 movies.
MAYBE HE WILL BE SO EXHAUSTED AFTER ALL 3, HE’LL WANT TO RELAX AND DO BURNS and write about haggis and field mice.

Though the the 44-year-old Scott might have mellowed since then, he isn’t ready to settle down.

However, it may just be that he doesn’t want to settle down with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, 25-year-old Romain model Madalina Ghenea.

After several reports of Butler’s alleged cheating, they are finally calling it quits. Not because of his cheating, a friend of the model tells In Touch; it’s his refusal to marry her that caused the problems:

“He broke up with Madalina because she wanted him to take things to the next level, but Gerard just wouldn’t commit…He’s already moved on.”

She should have seen that coming. Butler has had lots of practice moving after a relationship ends.

One thing sounds for certain, Butler, mellowed or not, doesn’t like being given ultimatums.

The very idea of Gerry doing a film which emphasizes extreme sports, frankly terrifies me. Of course he Could do it, and his perfectionism would make him do it better than anyone thought possible. After all, “300″ was such a leap for “that Scots actor who did “POTO” “.
But the comments posted on other sites, insisting that to cast him as Bohdi would be an ” insult “, gets my Irish in an uproar. He’d be brilliant. I would just much rather him spend the time on something OSCAR worthy. I also shudder at all the adolecent boys who will be jumping off rooftops after seeing this new PB. How can he passionately promote Mary’s Meals for the betterment of society, then do purely commercial projects with no redeeming social value like PB, or LHF. CM was NOT a good role model film, neither was PFK, and HTTYD was not much of an improvement.
I really do think very highly of Gerry, but I wish he would do films which parents, like myself, would consider “better”.on every level.

Important to the local economy and the old adage of instead of giving a fish, give a fishing rod and teach to fish. It gives pride in ones self for working to achieve goals they never thought possible. Being down trodden for so long you forget how it feels to work to support yourself, family and a whole community working together. I think that Magnus does this and the next generation will be taught by the generousity of today.

    http://opinuns.com/celebrity-updates/gerard-butler-will-play-patrick-swayzes-role-in-remake-of-point-break/
Only the other day was he spotted showcasing his bulging muscles. And if the Hollywood rumor mill is anything to go by, Gerard Butler certainly possesses the perfect credentials to play the lead in Point Break.

The towering Scotsman is in talks to play Bodhi, an expert extreme-sports athlete and bank robber – a role originally played by Patrick Swayze in Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 movie.

According to an entertainment website, the 44-year-old star is poised to sign on the dotted line. “He will play Bodhi, an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves,” the website reports. “He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals.”

The remake will be set in the world of extreme sports rather than the surf scene of the original movie and Gerard, with his bulky, toned frame, was said to be first choice for the role.

The part of Utah, originally played by Keanu Reeves, has not yet been cast, although Reeves has already ruled out the possibility of starring in the remake, telling BBC 5 live last month: “Absolutely not. It’s not my place.”

Ducky, I looked up Dirty Dancing and it was made in 1987. I liked PS in Ghost. I really wasn’t impressed by Point Break.
It sounds like they may take up where it left off. You think Bohdi dies but he doesn’t. In that case they can make the movie go in a different direction.
I am looking forward to GoE too. I think he will be so good in that. I bet if Gerry has seen the original it brought back so memories, especially one of the scenes where KR Is held down by the waves. It sounds like the concept is not to redo the original but continue it. He said he was going for bad **** movies.

@Ducky: Hi Ducky, LOL to your comment at #408. I think you might be right. As for Point Break, I’m on the fence, bad me. I’m more worried about the backlash from fans of the original, not worried at all about G.B. being able to act his heart out in it. It’s actually a good role for him if the powers- that – be come up with a good script. It’s a wait & see isn’t it ! As G.B. fans we all want the best for him, & I can’t help but think about how we’d feel if there was a re-make of Dear Frankie or LAC ( as examples ) with another actor playing the G.B. role. We might get a bit crankypants eh Ducky ! This is my concern with G.B. taking on the P.S. role as people power can quite often make or break a movie. I have seen Point Break, & I did enjoy it, but I thought there was a lot of over-acting in it … I’ll probably be horse whipped for saying that. Anyway, I wish G.B. every success if this goes ahead. He’s gone from having very little in the pipeline, to a whole heap of things, well done him. Cheers Ducky

I don’t care who stars in it. No one wants to see a surfing movie or extreme sports film. They’ve had others in recent years and none did well because they don’t have a large or interested audience. The fact that Butler stars in it isn’t a strong selling point. No one cares.

Sorry but this is a huge thumbs down for me. It makes me think this is the best he can do because no one is offering good roles.

    sweet 'n sour Says:

    @Ducky:
I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s natural for fans of an original film to protest a remake. We see this every time a remake is announced – they hate the idea, they hate the casting, etc. There’s always very strong resistance in the beginning. Ultimately, the fate of this re-boot will be determined by the final product. If a great trailer is released during promotions and the final cut is good, then people will embrace it. The success or failure of this remake will ultimately depend on the quality of the film that is released to the public a year from now. That’s when audience reaction matters, not fan reaction in the early days of pre-production when no one has even seen the script yet.

I understand that scripts come to an actors desk. Is it the managers job which scripts make it to his desk? Do all available scripts come to him or does he say just send me the ones that are action or romance or drama? How does it work?
I remember something about Dear Frankie that he originally dumped it til a friend called him and told him to read it again. Of course that was early on in his career too.
Sure that people come to him and approach him with their scripts. Does he take it or say “send it to my manager”? Is there a certain level that one is approached by studios and doesn’t get to see everything available?

Aged 22, he took a year off from his legal studies and headed to LA – where he was arrested repeatedly for drunken behaviour.

He says: “This is when things started to go a little crazy.

“Something very compulsive and dark and lusty and pleasurable but damaging took over.

“It was suddenly knowing I could go out and have a life of travelling, craziness, adventure, partying, women, and all the other things that go with that – including a sense of abandonment.

“Being away from home and not having the same kind of discipline and structure in front of me meant I could do whatever the f*** I wanted, and I did.

“For a while, I was living in an apartment in Venice Beach with three Irish guys who drank every day. It was perfect – we just got smashed. I started getting odd jobs. My buddies turned up one day and said they’d gotten a job working in a carnival that was going around the state fairs in California. In this year out of school, I did many things.

“I drove from LA to Miami, from LA to Chicago, from Miami to Chicago. And I kept getting arrested for stupid stuff, basically just being too drunk.

“I was out of control, and justifying it with this idea that I’m young, this is life – this is me just being boisterous.”

He goes on: “I remember getting arrested once and they actually put me in shackles.

“I was walking around chained to eight other guys – and technically, I was still president of the Law Society in Glasgow.

“I ended up in LA County Jail. I was in a cell with my 501s and my tight leather jacket and my long hair thinking I was Jim Morrison.”

He had been arrested for trying to jump on to a police car.

“They had already told me to move on because I was running about and being crazy.

“Then the next minute, I saw these lights coming towards me. I used to be crazy when I was drunk and I ran full-speed at the car. It was driving towards me and I was about to jump on to it, and the light started flashing.”

He believes the incident perfectly illustrates why he is so hot as an actor. “The reason so many Scottish actors have done so well is that we have a lot of passion and sensitivity – and insanity, as well.

Gerard was moulded by his upbringing in Paisley.

His bookmaker father Edward fled to Canada to avoid punters he owed money to. Wife Margaret, then pregnant with Gerard, was left behind. When Gerard was six months old, Margaret took him, brother Brian, 44, and sister Lynn, 43, to Canada to join their father.

    @Lord Love a Duck: Hi LLaD :)))
Thanks for posting that – although, I confess it’s pretty tough to read. And I’m sure that’s not the half of it.

“I was out of control, …” Yep, it sure sounds like he was and all the more remarkable to think of where he is today. What a handful he must have been. :( But, this is one of the many aspects of him that makes him, IMO, kind of fascinating, complex, imperfect and human. Hmmm, the stories he could tell….

  464. 464
    Lord Love a Duck Says:

From Steven Berkoff and some advice as well:
Berkoff says: “It was his first break – it was the first time he’d stepped on the stage. I had a casting woman and I was looking for actors for Coriolanus because I was replacing a few actors who couldn’t do it.

“My casting woman Sue said, ‘I’ve brought along this chap just to read’. When he read, he did it with such enthusiasm and earnestness that he was far better than the principal actors who we were auditioning and yet he wasn’t even an actor then.

“He just had a desire for it and an intelligence, a quickness of wit and of course that wonderful Scottish brogue. He was so defined as a warrior for a Roman play.

“So then I said he could be in it. Sue said, ‘Are you sure? He’s never even done anything. He’s just a beginner’.

“So I said, ‘Yes, I’m quite sure’. Then he came in and that’s how it all started. He took to it like a duck to water.

“He was still going through some torments when he was working with me, but I could see him improving.”

Gerard went on to appear in a string of hits, with roles in Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, Attila and The Phantom of the Opera. He has also had major leading man roles opposite Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth and Jennifer Aniston in The Bounty Hunter.

Berkoff says he was “gobsmacked” by Gerard’s success, but urged him to be more selective in the films he chooses. He says: “I usually work with actors who’ve got very strong focus and are courageous so a lot of them do really well. Gerry wouldn’t be the first one. Even so, I’m gobsmacked by his success. I think he’s progressed very well but he’s got to be a bit more selective now.

Misery’s a sign of something wrong
“He’s got to chose roles that have greater depth. I don’t like him doing those romantic comedies.

“The only time I really saw him have tremendous charisma and depth was in 300. He came over absolutely phenomenally. It was an absolutely fantastic performance. That’s what he should be doing – not these quick one-liners and cutesy roles.

“Sometimes though it’s not what you choose but what you get offered. If he can choose, and he chooses the right films, I think he can go a long way.

“He is very, very self-disciplined and focused. He has a tremendous energy and a real power.”

Berkoff adds: “I don’t speak to him at all now because he’s a Hollywood boy, isn’t he? I last met him about three or four years ago.

“But he has expressed his gratitude to me and I’m thankful for that. He’s a good working class Scottish lad and has an integrity about him.”

It’s my understanding that scripts go to Alan first and Alan decides which scripts Gerry sees. I remember an interview with Gerry where he said this was the case. I think he was talking about “Beowulf” at the time, and he said the producers of “Beowulf” had to work very hard to do an end run around Gerry’s team to get to Gerry and show him the script. Alan and Gerry’s agent had already rejected the script, so Gerry hadn’t heard of the project until the “Beowulf” producers were able to get to him personally. This is one of the reasons I wish Gerry would drop his manager and agent. I think they do a terrible job choosing which scripts Gerry sees. God only knows what interesting projects Gerry got offered that he doesn’t even know about.

@sweet ‘n sour: Sweet, you might take a look at post #465. It is the Piers Morgan interview Gerry did for MGP. During the interview, he repeatedly looks over to someone off camera. Especially for the “desert island” question, Gerry imitates this person begging him Not to answer. From other press tours Gerry has done, with Alan always right there with his little camera phone, I am guessing that person was Alan. There are also older photos from Ischia where Gerry is being a bit much, shall we say, and Alan is sitting there with a decidedly scolding look.
From all I have seen and read of Alan, he seems to be a powerfully Stabilizing force for Gerry, and a really, really true friend.
As far as Gerry’s project choices, I think he throws himself blindly into each new project thinking this is the greatest thing ever, and gets pig-headed to anyone elses opinion. He has said he gets ” strong minded” on film sets and it gets him in trouble. He said that even about doing “Dear Frankie”. As far as others on his team, the questionable results of their combined efforts, in the past few YEARS, leaves a lot to be desired. I agree. I am sure his industry friends have mentioned this to him already. What are those sayings about leading a horse to water…, and being ones own worst enemy?

No, Alan did not talk Gerry into doing “Dear Frankie”. It was a friend of Gerry’s in the UK who convinced him to do it.

  554. 554
    sweet 'n sour Says:

    @Ducky:
I don’t think being conscientious is necessarily Alan’s problem. It’s not lack of effort or trying. I just think he’s incompetent and in over his head trying to manage the career of someone at Gerry’s level – something he’s never done before. Unfortunately, now that Alan is also a partner in Gerry’s production company, dropping him from Gerry’s team is easier said than done. And I just want to add, that I’m not saying Gerry isn’t responsible for the downturn that happened in his career. The buck stops with him, and he shoulders ultimate responsibility. But it didn’t help that he had a ship of fools on his team which includes his manager, agent and what became a revolving door of publicists over the last two years. I think Amy is the one person on his staff that inspires confidence.

  555. 555
    Call Me Harold's Bunny Says:

If Butler isn’t responsible and Alan isn’t responsible and various other fools on his team aren’t responsible, why does he seem to make bad choices in what he stars in? It must be Gerry who’s responsible don’t you think? Amy’s his personal assistant and she works for him. I doubt she has anything whatsoever to do with his pick of films.

  556. 556
    Ducky Says:

@sweet ‘n sour: “Over his head” is a good way of putting it. Where is the line drawn between loyalty and business/career? That being said, imo, he isn’t a newcomer to the industry, he is HW smart and do hope that the choices he made and will make are the ones that will give him satisfaction.

As I said in my post, I believe Gerry is ultimately responsible for his career choices and where did anyone say Amy picks his scripts??? She’s his PA. I only referenced her because I think she’s been an valuable member of his staff.

  559. 559
    Ducky Says:

@Drive-by Truth: For me, he is the same, more mature, more intense but still the same. As an actor, of course he wants the recognition of his peers. After watching the GG’s I felt that for him as I am sure many fans did.
But, I am proud of his accomplishments. Again, IMO I have never been chagrined by any of his performances. Coriolanus is wonderful, a classic work, MGP will always be relevant as long as there are heroes and atrocities and all the others with the possible exception of Movie 43 lol, he can hold his head high and be proud. I am also proud of the charities that he has chosen like AFPJ and Mary’s Meals and promoting the Global fest. As long as we get to see that smile, having fun in his life, is healthy and content whatever his circumstances are, none of us can ask for more in life. He will be working soon and we can wish him well and smooth sailing.
There are not many actors that have stretched and tried the things that he has done. POTO, 300, OHF, P.S. I love you. All different genre. Good for him. Of course I don’t know him personally but what I see in interviews, films and pictures I will continue to be a fan.

  560. 560
    sweet 'n sour Says:

    @Ducky:
Gerry isn’t a newcomer, although I think it’s been a long learning curve for him, including the difficulties of trying to manage a production company – something neither Gerry nor Alan had any prior experience with. I think a lot of mistakes got made in their roles as producers, to be honest, including re-writing and meddling with scripts which I don’t believe they had the skill-set for. This is just my personal opinion. I think Gerard is well suited to acting. I think he has real talent in that department and I wish he would concentrate his efforts there. So I think while he has lots of experience as a professional actor, he was on a very steep learning curve when he put on the producer’s hat and the fruits were mixed results.
    .
Ultimately, we all learn more from our failures, than we do from our successes. Much later in life and in retrospect, we’re often grateful for our mistakes for the important lessons they taught us. I do detect a change in Gerard lately. His partying and clubbing has greatly reduced, and he’s been keeping a very low profile in comparison to previous years. Something is going on behind the scenes. Something is different.

His family are always supportive of him but will tell him the truth even if he doesn’t want to hear it. They didn’t turn against him because of MG but they obviously seen that she was no good for him and was just using him and would have told him what they thought. It was because of this that he left home earlier than planned after Christmas 2012 because he didn’t like what his family had to say, but he soon found out that “mom is always right.” Incidentally, MG is saying that they split up 7 months ago which proves that she wasn’t her with him in Scotland last year.

She was never in Scotland for Christmas and the rest of the story was almost word for word taken from an article about Margaret and Jennifer Aniston. @Anais: Anais, you’re spot on!

You can argue with these besotted phanniez until you’re blue in the face. They persist in living pure lies and in fantasy land where Saint Gerard marries their 65 year old bodies and has children with them and loves them proper every night. These women aren’t human. They’re stuck on stupid.

What “I think” happened was that indeed they had an official breakup in June. Then they reunited temporarily but it didn’t work out for whatever reason. She gave the interview, filled with hope and thinking they were back on, and then it ended. Maybe she came to the realization months later that it really did end in June and there was no going back to fix it.

Also, there were articles and an interview by her done when they were still together and she addressed the marriage issue, saying she wanted babies but thought she was not ready to get married. That does not jive at all with this “new” article that claims he dropped her because she demanded an engagement. I tend to believe the printed or spoken quotes from her or him, not what some moviegobsmackmaggot writes and makes up.

@Anais: She posted on her Facebook that they broke up 7 months no mention of a reconcilation, just that they were still “friends”. Most of us will go with the most recent statement coming from her unless someone hacked into her FB. The whole Rome situation was a staged photo op, we have eyewitnesses to that.

I do agree that she is now ancient history so the arguing serves no real purpose at this point. Another Romanian article said Gerry has already in the arms of another woman and not devastated at all over the breakup.

She very much wanted to get married to Butler. He was smart enough to not go in that direction. She stated they broke up 7 months ago in June rather than 5 months ago at the beginning of August because then everyone would know this whole thing crashed (again) during the Romania trip when she went running out of the hotel in tears and when she denied they had a fight. She lies about everything. Butler getting rid of her was the best thing he did and he knows it and so does everyone else.

Beautiful Romanian posted the other day on Facebook, a photo appears in the arms of a man, but his face is mostly cut. Virtual friends were curious whether the male is Gerard Butler, but scattered Madalina speculation: it is not him. “I’m seven months since we desăpărţit. I remained good friends,” wrote the star.

A virtual pal replied that no further Madalina November last year read an interview in which she claimed to be with Gerard. Romance and the mystery cleared up. “I gave an interview in May and unfortunately they decided to publish on November 28, because they expected launch of Dom Hemingway. Know that interviews are confused and the answers they give are those that come to be published” Madalina wrote.

@covey: That’s good. After two years of trashing her, calling her all kinds of horrific names and her gender in question, she now becomes the angel you always knew she was. Maybe we can encourage gerry to go back to her, have a ring and get babies made. I am so sick and tired of discussion around her and she is loving it.
Simple truth is, she wanted him because of his fame. He made her popular and she got film rolls. He did it all for her for whatever reason.
They had fun, she wanted payment for her sleeping with him, which is only right in the eyes of society not HW. Didn’t get the ring or commitment.
He didn’t want marriage with her because he didn’t love her enough to spend his life with her.
His career is more important to him, her’s will stay with foreign films and modeling and she will find a sugar daddy.
They remain friends and will greet each other as such and that is IT.
NOW can we please drop this ridiculous, boring sickining discussion for the 1000000 time. IT IS DONE FINI COMPLETE. Go back to old threads and read all you want. It has been said, argued and still it goes on. How you live!

If anything, Gerry hoped he could bank off her success and he was thrilled to be dating a famous and beautiful model. How come the same people say the same old thing about every film he does? Never a good word. His career is finished, he’ll never work in HW again, he’ll be broke in a month, he has no talent, he makes all the wrong choices etc. etc.
Either you wish for him to fall flat on his face, homeless and begging and humiliated or you are the most unhappy people in the world. Do you always see the cup half empty?
I understand that there are people who enjoy seeing someone happy no matter what happens to them and cheer them on, but to spend time degrading another without merit is so sad and says a lot about the person waiting for the fall of another. Especially when that person tries so hard.

    Bonnie UK Says:

@Truth: Because everyone doesn’t like him. You can’t force him on people. You can’t convince everyone he’s a great actor with great films. I don’t think he’s that good but he’s “okay”. He passes but that’s about it. I don’t think he gets what he should and ends up taking leftovers or acting jobs that others don’t want. He’s been in the biz for a long time now and he should have had at least one hit where everyone raves about him in the movie. It hasn’t happened yet. Yes, he became famous with 300 but anyone could have played that role. The movie belonged to Frank Miller not Gerry. He needs to find a role where he transforms himself into someone we don’t recognize. Most of his characters are similar, gruff, raw fighter action heroes and they end up in a blur of muddled plotline. A movie where he changes his hair or shaves that godawful scruff would be a start.

    A Plan Says:

There is a Divine Plan including everything that happens.
And only God knows our ways.
Sometimes we ask Him to take us «Home» not because we are hurting. If that comes to us that means we are able to stand. We ask Him to give us strength and power to stand and make changes in our lives. I mean just power, not THE POWER! :)
We also «ask» because we are tired (yes!) to «play on this level», it seems to us that there is nothing new, we know it all and nothing surprises us. But we are here…still… for some reason. That means we still have to learn something or we have a destination.

    There is a Divine Plan.
