    biggest surprise of the night for me, didn’t expect him to win

    amelie Says:

    i guess he has a lot of friends in hollywood & this appears to be a popularity contest rather than about actual talent.

    Congrats! Says:

    I’m so glad he won here, because that probably means he won’t get the Oscar. Just glad he got something for the performance of his career… so far.

    cate Says:

    @4 good point. Let’s hope he doesn’t get an oscar because his acting skills are mediocre compared to some of the other heavy weights. Great role, though!

    It was a bit of a surprise he because he wasn’t considered a favorite but I was hoping he’d win and it was a well deserved win. He was great in Dallas Buyers Club.

    OMG!!!! Says:

    Congratulations Matthew, well deserved!

    actually Says:

    @amelie: What are you talking about? Matthew gave a great performance! He was as worthy as any of the other actors. Maybe you just don’t like him, but I know men who really loved this movie — and they loved it mostly because of Matthew. He touched them emotionally and that’s what we want from films.

    well deserved, best of his career

    @actually:

    the difference is that chiwetel ejifor could have acted matthew’s role in DBC but most definitely not the other way around (disregard less of race).

    matthew is a movie star & moderately talented actor who got a happened to be offered a great role. ejifor is an true artist & if you watch anything that he has ever been in (be it good or bad) you would know this.

    Elliot Says:

    The GG this year were a huge disappointment and this summed it all up for me. Matthew McCaunehey, Leo Di Caprio, Andy Samburg, Jennifer Lawrence all need to hand their awards back so that they can be given out to the people that really deserved them. Then again they gave a life time achievement award to a pedophile so we shouldn’t really be surprised.

    uh Says:

    @cate: Not to be rude, but who are the other heavyweights? I think Tom Hanks and Robert Redford are the only heavyweights in this particular category. Robert is so old now, and he’s had his time in the sun a long time ago, and Hanks has 2 Oscars. I loved Tom Hanks and his film, but I believe Matthew deserved this award.

    Cameron Says:

    I’m sorry…I like him but he did not deserve that award over those other actors..especially Chiowetel

    OMG!!!! Says:

    @amelie:

    Both Ejifor and McConaughey are talented and great artists in their craft. Don’t hold Matthew’s money grab against him when he did comedies. He is awesome in dramas and over the years has showed his diversity in this business. I would have been pleased with either of them or Idris winning tonight. All three men are very talented and deserved their nominations this year and wins.

    His speech reminded me of a parody SNL would do of him winning an award.

    allright, allright, alright, indeed!

    @OMG!!!!:

    please don’t compare the acting talents of matthew & ejifor. it’s like comparing leo to daniel day lewis. it’s akin to blasphemy.

    allison Says:

    I think 12 years a slave will win much more than best picture at the oscars

  19. 19
    OMG!!!! Says:

    @jocelyn:

    I did not say they were the same caliber of actors but both are good artist in their craft. Both are talented in their own right and I will stand by that.

    @Elliot:

    I’m glad someone else thought that this was gross. Diane Keaton, Emma Stone & Cate Blanchett fawning over a man who sexually assaulted his 7 year old step daughter & ran off with other 17 year old.

    And please don ‘t get me started on Jennifer Lawrence & Amy Adam praising David T Russell who admitted to groping his 19 year old trangender niece but who would apologise because he thought that she was “asking for it”.

    If this is supposed to be “feminism” i don’t want any part of it.

    LaCroix Says:

    Matthew McConaughey was fantastic in this film, he not only embodied the characters’ persona but also the physical aspect of the role. All of the other actors were good in their roles but Matthew took his to another level. Well Deserved. I wouldn’t be surprised if he received an Oscar for it.

    Megan Says:

    I hate mean comments on the internet but it really irks me that he won. The other 4 performances are so far superior. I guess if you loose an insane amount of weight you’ll win an award. Just because someone has won plenty of awards doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be awarded more. Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips is one of the very best performances I’ve ever seen. He really should have won.

  23. 23
    Make him Disappear Says:

    Looking haggard hard and ugly… loosing all that weight doesn’t makes him a good actor… Mediocre at best.

  24. 24
    Rita Says:

    @uh: I have always liked Matthew McConaughey. I am glad he was awarded the Golden Globe. He was also very good in Killer Joe and Mud.

    heidi Says:

    @#20 – the guy’s name is David O. Russell. And where is your info from re his niece??
