Lana Del Rey – “Once Upon a Dream” Lyrics

I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yet I know it’s true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you’ll do
You’ll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream

But if I know you, I know what you do
You love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream

I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
And I know it’s true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you’ll do
You’ll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream

But if I know you, I know what you do
You love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream

    Dana Says:

Really? No offense, but it was not written for Maleficent. It’s a cover of the song from the Disney movie…

    Sarah Says:

I loved it. The eerie feel to it goes perfectly with the feel of the movie. Can’t wait for this movie to come out!

    Cindy Says:

I love it. I think it’s a beautiful and haunting updated interpretation and perfect for the movie. I’m impressed and happy they have included it, given it a new spin for this particular movie.

    Sarah Says:

    @Dana: Indeed

@Dana: @Dana: Exactly, this song is over 50 years old. Someone didn’t do their research.

saw the commercial before and I was like “woah, what Lana song is that?!” cuz I know a lot of her songs then I realized it was a new one. she has such a distinctive voice and singing style. really a beautiful song. very fitting.

    Rob Says:

Yeah, this was not written for the new movie at all, it’s from the original Disney cartoon. And the lyrics here are the lyrics of the old one, the Lana Del Rey version has a few subtle lyric changes.

    hh Says:

Horrible. Her voice is a shiiit.

  12. 12
    Derek Says:

    @Dana: Maleficent is a Disney movie…

  13. 13
    Adriana Says:

but yeah this is a cover of the song from the Sleeping Beauty movie…

  14. 14
    Natasha Says:

It must be said again: this is not a “brand new song” and the song was NOT written for Maleficent. Really now, Jared.

  15. 15
    Dana K Says:

I love this song. I loved it in Disney movie and I like it in Lana’ s cover. And I think Lana’s voice is sound like Angelina’s. IMHO

  16. 16
    Sara Says:

Have to echo some of the earlier posters: you really should know this song is from the original Sleeping Beauty movie! Definitely not written for Lana del Rey. That said, I LOVE it. The measured, haunting quality of her voice here is mesmerizing. I agree with one of the earlier posters who said it sounds like Angelina’s voice – at first I wondered if it was her singing.

  17. 17
    Alex Says:

I really like this cover. Sounds like how Maleficent would sing this song. Dark and haunted. I prefer this version

    BWEST Says:

UAU!! It’s from the original Disney cartoon? Who cares? l love this song!!! Congratulacions Lana!

  19. 19
    Tommy Says:

I love it! It’s ethereal and somehow both a little creepy and hopeful at the same time.

  20. 20
    snapcracklepop Says:

I’m not really into Lana Del Rey but, I loved this version the instant I heard it. I agree with others that at first I thought it was Angelina Jolie in character and that made it even more haunting and cooler.

  21. 21
    Lloyd Says:

It’s simply beautiful!! hunting really, anything Lana Del Rey touches turns to Gold…. Just Saying!

  22. 22
    Russell Says:

@Dana: Not to mention that the melody is from Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty” ballet from the 1890′s. :)

    DG31 Says:

    @Lauren:

I agree with Lauren. Just because someone doesn’t like this doesn’t mean they don’t know the original version, though I can’t speak for Lauren. Yes, I KNOW this isn’t an original song from Maleficent, and that’s exactly WHY I don’t like it. I don’t like the idea of mangling something beautiful and meaningful like that song and lyric into something dark and twisted (and don’t even get me started on the changes in lyrics and melody, which I can only see as laziness). I’m pretty sure Tchaikovsky is rolling in his grave.

And yes, this isn’t a brand new song, and it wasn’t written for this movie. Journalism FAIL.

  24. 24
    Kobe Says:

    This sounds really good!
I honestly don’t understand what’s up with all of the hate? “Oh it’s not her original song” We get it. It’s a cover! There’s no need for hate. Anyways, This is such a beautiful song. I’m so proud of you Lana Del Rey! Finally getting the fame that you deserve! :D

  25. 25
    Tommy Says:

Tchaikovsky’s version didn’t have words, so adding words in the original Sleeping Beauty cartoon might’ve upset him – a reinterpretation like this would just be another offense.

But then again, as a composer, he would also be quite familiar with the concept of theme and variations. He might also be flattered that his works are being remembered, enjoyed, and reinterpreted 125 years later for a new audience. That’s a pretty good compliment.
