    Is this really campaigning though?
    Has there been any 20/20 or Dateline interviews where Leo is re-living the hardships of his childhood and how hard life still is even though he’s a successful actor?
    This is his baby, and Marty is his mentor.
    I don’t blame him for taking in the moment.
    Like Kate said the year she won, she might as well enjoy it, because she could suck in everything she’s in from then on.

  • Tumblr post

    @campaining?:
    Nailed it. I fail to see what he’s doing that is so wrong. Until we get a headline of him proclaiming he almost died during filming or it’s the last movie he’s ever going to star in then I don’t buy this ‘OMG HE’S CAMPAIGNING111!!’ talk. By that I mean he is campaigning and def working the circuit, but its his passion project and he is proud of his performance and I see nothing wrong with that. The last time he campaigned this hard was for The Aviator, his other passion project.

  • Zzzzzz

    @Yeah: thanks for the video. They are all campaigning, but I don’t have a problem with the way they are doing if. It is completely different from the way George and Ben were doing it. IMO, there is no comparison!
    @BZ girl: damn right I have my tickets!
    @####: it’s only 11:30 – plenty of time to go clubbing. I think the next event he has is the Oscar luncheon o. Monday at the Hilton.

  • Irmelin

    Give my baby and Oscar or I will scratch you with my nails >:(

  • Zzzzzz

    Typo! Luncheon *on Monday. …
    @Tumblr post: LOL! HI! ‘Yeah’ and I have been talking about the same thing. We agree that the way Leo, Marty and Jonah are doing it is not obnoxious or pathetic. I don’t mind it at all.

  • beth

    I don’t think what he’s doing his wrong, I think most actors dream of winning an oscar and I can’t blame him for trying but I don’t think he’s winning the oscar this year. They rarely give the best actor oscar to non-sympathetic characters and as much as he’s trying, McCounaughey is campaigning harder. I almost feel bad for DiCaprio because he is the most deserving of all of the best actor nominee’s but McConaughey has all of the boxes checked off

  • caimpaining?

    @Tumblr post: Unfortunately tumblr has made Leo “Oscar Boy” and they want it for him way worse than I believe he wants it for himself. It’s projected this weird image onto him where people think that every little thing he does is in an attempt to win it. I don’t believe that. And there are actors who are unbearable this time of year, yet no one says anything about them.
    He should enjoy the moment. His movie is nominated and he should be proud and take it all in!!

  • Jonah

    @Leo: your tired cranky from all the award shows ..you just need a nice long NAPPYPOO!

  • Tumblr post

    @caimpaining?:
    HAHAHA, don’t mention Tumblr. Being a Leo fan on that website is the worst. You either have the camp that makes the tired Oscar jokes or the camp that believes he should win an Oscar for every single movie ever, aka teenage girls who have probably only watched Titanic and Gatsby. I understand exactly what you mean, people now think every single he does is in relation to snatching that Oscar because he’s so desperate for it according to them. It’s unbearable.

    “He should enjoy the moment. His movie is nominated and he should be proud and take it all in!!”
    Thats exactly what he’s doing, and I’m happy for him. I didn’t even think he would be nominated and he got the best reviews of his career yet, it was a great achievement also since he produced and was the reason it got made.

  • Tumblr post

    @beth:
    Yeah, Matthew is going to be on Inside The Actor’s Studio and he’s been campaigning the most of any other contender this year besides a few others. He plays a character who dies of AIDS, has several emotional moments, typical Oscar clips, physical transformation, etc etc. He’s winning that Oscar. Too many voters will be repulsed by Leo’s character.

  • Leo

    @Jonah: Jonah get me a beer I need a FAMILY *sobs*

  • campaigning?

    @Tumblr post: I hate that he more than likely will lose to McConaughey. How the hell did he become the front runner, even before Chiwetel?
    I was okay with it being between he and Leo, but McConaughey?

  • beth

    @Tumblr post: Basically. Because as Leo has said many times, I don’t think he’ll find a character he’s as passionate about in a very long time. It’s unfortunate that the academy is so biased towards sympathetic characters.

  • beth

    @campaigning?: I agree. Should;ve been between Chiwetel and DiCaprio

  • Tumblr post

    @campaigning?:
    @beth:
    McConaughey was fine in Dallas Buyers Club, but I think I missed what so special about him or that movie as a whole. I say that as someone who thinks he’s a really good actor, love him on True Detective. Leo was on a whole other level in WOWS, and what’s hurting him is his character is extremely unlikeable and has no emotional or redeemable moments whatsoever. They love rewarding villains or unlikeable characters only in the supporting category. I don’t know how the hell he became the frontrunner, it was always Chiwetel who was supposed to be the winner, and he would make a better winner too. Also, Matthew’s narrative in his campaign is kind of lame. Its basically he should win an Oscar because he turned around his career and just started giving good performances in the last 2 years. Meanwhile Chiwetel has been doing solid unrecognized work on both film and TV for over a decade or Leo who has been doing solid work for over 20 years. It’s not really fair but w/e, not gonna waste my time upset over some award and its politics.

  • Zzzzzz

    @campaigning, Tumblr post & beth: Hi everybody! You know I thought that Chiwetel would win everything – I still do. When Matthew won, I thought it had to be politics or something. I could not believe that he was better than Chiwetel. I was wrong. He was amazing in Dallas Buyer’s. He was so good and I think that he almost – almost equalled Chiwetel’s performance. If you have not seen Dallas Buyer’s, I strongly recommend seeing it. Matthew was excellent! If he wins, I won’t be upset. Would I like Leo to win an Oscar? Of course, he was great in this role. But I personally would have rather see him win it for his role in Gilbert or The Aviator or The Departed, than for this character – JMO

  • Amy

    @Zzzzzz:

    I think the problem is that Jordan is a villain, not an anti-hero. An anti-hero screws up but has some redeeming qualities. Also there’s usually a back story that explains why an anti-hero acts the way he or she does.

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    Have you watched Killer Joe? I think he was more Oscar worthy in that than in Dallas Buyers Club. But we can agree to disagree. He was good in his role but I was not as impressed as I was hoping to be. He’ll make a fine Oscar winner, and I don’t have any issues with his performance but I felt there were better male performances this year. And to be frank I feel like the main reason he’s even the frontrunner is because of how Oscar baity his role is and how he has turned around his career. Chiwetel was amazing, I feel bad he went from being the Oscar favorite to not having a chance within a week after Globes and SAG. I thought for sure he would win the Globe at the least.

  • lalala

    I dont think Leo and Toni broke up. He hasnt been in clubs since the Nina rumor was out.

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: I posted my comment before I saw yours. I really thought Matthew was amazing in DBC. I was taken by surprise. I never thought he had it in him. IMO Chiwetel should win, but I can’t see that happening. Although, I think he will at least win the BAFTA.
    re unlikeable characters: That’s true, but Forest Whitaker won his Oscar for portraying the despot Ida Amin. I don’t think there is a character that is more despicable than him!

  • Amy

    @Tumblr post:

    Nah, Chiwetel had no chace at winning a GG. The Hollywood Foreign Press likes to award big name celebrities.

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    Chiwetel has a slight chance at winning, better chance than Leo I think. 12 Years As A Slave is likely to win Best Picture and voters may want to voter for the performance that anchors their favorite movie. He’s likely to win BAFTA but Adrien Brody also won the Oscar with only just the BAFTA. But then again that year all the awards went to different men, so far every award has gone to Matthew. I say it’s Matthew who just wins in the end. No surprises this year. The winners will be Matthew, Cate, Jared, and Lupita.

  • beth

    @Tumblr post: McConaughey reminds me of Bullock’s win. The academy loves rewarding the sympathetic characters. He was really good, but Chiwetel and DiCaprio are more deserving. This is nothing new. I expect Chiwetel to win at the BAFTA’s and McConaughey to win at the Oscars. The thing is , regardless if McConaughey wins this year or not, he will be nominated again because he’s been chosing very good projects. He will have another chance to win again. Whereas with DiCaprio he is better in his performances if it’s a movie he is passionate about. Also it shows in his demeanor he is losing passion for the craft. I’m not sure how many more performances he’ll be so amazing in. This might be his last nomination.

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: I haven’t seen Killer Joe. Thanks for the recommendation. I will be sure to see it and let you know what I think.
    re Chiwetel: I’m like you in this. What the hell happened? I think all the talk might have made him peak too soon, maybe? I’m truly baffled!
    @Amy: Forest won for Ida Amin, a person that was beyond a villian – he was outright evil incarnate!

  • campaigning?

    @Zzzzzz: McConaughey was fine, but Leto made the movie for me!! Like you I thought Chiwetel had it in the bag. But surprisingly Leo got nominated (Originally I didn’t think the movie would be released soon enough for him to garner enough attention). And so I thought the race would be between Leo and Chiwetel. My two favorite performances. Like Tumblr Post said, I feel like a lot of the noise for McConaughey is because he stopped making crappy movies.
    I don’t know, but I’m irrationally annoyed by him right now.

  • Tumblr post

    @Amy:
    True but Chiwetel was a previous nominee for his work on Kinky Boots and they never nominated McConaughey before. Plus 12 Years As A Slave ended up taking Picture, so he definitely had a chance and many blogs were predicting him.

  • Amy

    @beth:

    I’d like to see him do an indie like WEGG again. Before Titanic I felt that his acting was more natural. I think he was so good in WOWS because he improv’d with Jonah.

  • Rest

    @beth: “Also it shows in his demeanor he is losing passion for the craft. I’m not sure how many more performances he’ll be so amazing in. This might be his last nomination.”

    As sad as it is… I think this is true. I think Leo really needs some time off to take a real break, rest, and re-evaluate himself. He needs to find meaning in his life beyond work.

  • campaigning?

    @beth: You think Leo’s losing his passion for acting?

  • beth

    @campaigning?: Yes.

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    Matthew is really great in Killer Joe, if you are a fan then I think you’d enjoy the movie too. Its quite dark. Another theory about Chiwetel-could be that his character is too passive and subtle? While you have McConaughey in the big and baity role getting to act out intensely, I can see why members would feel compelled to vote for him. Like I said he has several Oscar clip worthy scenes!

  • What’s next

    Leo has a chance to win the Bafta?

  • Tumblr post

    @beth:
    I can see what you’re onto. Leo put his absolute everything into WOWS, went places he never has before, and was absolutely committed to everything about it especially the physical comedy. He probably knows he won’t win but I wonder how his eventual loss will affect him. I worry sometimes he may eventually lose passion for acting since it’s all he’s ever done. Take away his partying and environmental work, what else is he actually committed to in his life? He’s never taken a real break from acting that lasted longer than a year to pursue other goals or dreams, like Rest said I think at some point he’s going to need to find meaning in his life besides professionally. If he starts losing passion in his personal life, it will show in his acting.

  • beth

    @What’s next: He probably won’t win. Often times British actors win the BAFTA’s so it’s Chiwetel’s to lose. He has like a 95% chance of winning

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: I think Matthew is going to get a lot of votes, but I also think that Leo is building momentum. this could actually cause a split in the votes and Chiwetel could actually win!! I truly think that is what happened when Ralph Fiennes and Leo lost to Tommy Lee Jones. I really think the votes were split between Ralph and Leo and Tommy ended up winning because of it. His performance was a joke compared to theirs – IMO!
    @campaigning?: I loved Leto! He and Matthew were great together! He was so good and he better win! Same with Lupita – I will scream if J Lawrence wins – I mean WTF?! LMAO over your last line!

  • Tumblr post

    @What’s next:
    I don’t think he will win, but he absolutely has a chance considering the big hit WOWS was in the UK and Matthew McConaughey was not nominated there.

  • Tumblr post

    @campaigning?:
    Yes, I thought Jared Leto was better than him too. His performance never felt gimmicky either.

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    Chiwetel is the underdog IMO, and he should probably not be written off. Your theory makes sense and I can see there being a case of vote splitting. Honestly only Bruce Dern and Christian Bale have no chance in hell at getting the most votes but I can see there being a close battle between Chiwetel and Matthew. I would love for Chiwetel to win but I think Matthew will probably just take it. He has won everything so far and is in it to win it!

  • campaigning

    @Zzzzzz: LOL… I had to be honest!! He was great, I can’t lie and say he wasn’t.
    But this is the first time since Gilbert that I felt like Leo had a real chance to win it, because Jamie had it in the bag the year he did Ray. I really want him to win for his passion project!! And also because he got the rights over Pitt, whom I really don’t care for!! LOL

    @Tumblr Post
    It’s the first time I really even noticed Jared like that. I was really into him!!!

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr and Rest: Hi Rest! Completely agree with what you are saying. I became a fan because of his work with endangered species and the WWF. The truth is, he hasn’t been doing a lot of hands on projects like he use to. He did do the auction which raised over $38 million, the most ever for the environment! That was huge, but for the past few years, it just seems his only real involvement was tweeting about petitions. He might have been doing things behind the scenes, but I haven’t heard about anything. In his most recent interviews, he talked about getting more involved in some projects and doing a documentary about the environment. I hope he actually does it this time. I think it will bring back some of the spark that is missing from his life.

  • Tumblr post

    @campaigning:
    Brad Pitt is winning an Oscar if 12 Years As A Slave wins Best Picture, so your out of luck LOL

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    After the Oscars if I were him I would focus my attention back onto environmental causes or try to find new hobbies or interests in life. I’m glad he is taking a break from acting because he’s been looking exhausted and acting is all he’s done his whole life but what’s the point if he’s going to waste this break just partying. Doing something meaningful with his time and will be beneficial to him in the future is worth it. I would like to see him get more involved in environmental causes as well.

  • campaigning?

    @Tumblr post: damn!!! Lol

  • Tumblr post

    I have to go now, great conversation with you Zzzzzz campaigning? and beth =)

  • campaigning?

    @Tumblr post: Have a great one!! Same to you.

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: LOL! I was actually going to say that! Who do you think will win for Director. I know everybody is talking about Gravity. I liked it, but when I was watching it, I kept thinking of Space Odyssey and Kubrik! For the record – Kubrik did it better!

  • Tumblr post

    @Zzzzzz:
    It will go to Alfonso Cuaron, for sure. Gravity was good, but I’m rooting for 12YAS to take the top prize. Goodnight =)

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: Hope to talk to you real soon. Would love to her your Oscar pick for Director!
    @campaigning, Rest and everybody else, like Tumblr post said – great conversations! I wish the thread was like this all the time!

  • Zzzzzz

    @Tumblr post: Good night!

  • beth

    good night all hopefully we get to chat again soon! Always an interesting conversation!
