Former NBC News Anchor Tom Brokaw Diagnosed with Cancer

It was just announced that NBC’s Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow.

“I remain the luckiest guy I know. With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” the 74-year-old news correspondent shared in a statement.

He added, “I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter.”

Despite this news, Tom has been keeping busy while covering the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Praying for him … I’ve always liked him. I’m no doctor, but would a bone-marrow transplant cure this? I hope he still has many more years to enjoy … God bless him!

If he wishes to keep the cancer a “private matter” why was this news announced and why has he commented on it?? Geesh ….

@sos: Considering tabloids would chomp at the bit to “reveal” this sort of thing, he has every right to reveal as little or as much information on his own terms.

It’s awful to hear when someone is diagnosed with this dreadful and debilitating disease. Hopefully he and his family can cope and overcome this obstacle in life.

He is one of my favorites of all time. Just a man who seemed to have great integrity and genuine warmth. He was never scandalous and he has a wonderful family. I pray that God heals him and grants him a very long life. Good man.

@sos:

He had no choice since the news got out and wanted to thank those who were concerned. Stop being so damn sarcastic!

@Luv you, Tom:

Well said! I pray for him as well. He’s a ‘class’ act.
