Lorde: I Want People to Stop Hearing Me on the Radio All the Time!

Lorde shows off her curly head of hair on the cover of V magazine‘s Spring 2014 issue.

Here’s what the 17-year-old Grammy winner had to share with the mag:

On choosing friends: “I’ve always hung out with people older than me, with my parents’ friends, because I appreciated the conversation. And even now, although I have heaps of friends in high school, I also hang out with a lot of older people. And sometimes with them I’m like, “God, this is boring!” But it means that I get to have these stimulating encounters with people that I idolize, which is cool.”

On not wanting a Lorde overload: “I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it’s kind of crazy at the moment. I’d like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different.”

On not wanting to be called the “voice of the generation”: “I’m sure so many people will read that and be like, F–k off!”

I like her. She is honest and down to earth. A breath of fresh air in the narcissistic showbiz.

# 5

I’ve no doubt she’s genuine about all this but all this ‘hating the limelight’ will just make her more likeable to the fans.

# 6

then stop giving interviews

@Swiz: ironically the celebs that say they “hate the limelight” are the ones talking the most about it

Normally when people say this kind of stuff I think they’re just trying to sound humble but they’re full of sh*t. I actually really believe that Lorde doesn’t sing for anyone but herself. I’m sure she enjoys the praise, the acknowledgement of her hardwork and the money, but I also believe that she doesn’t want to be exhausted and played out to people which is something that so often happens with radio/limelight. If something is popular they play it out to death to the point of where you can’t stand it. She’s not trying to be overexposed and she stays out of Hollywood enough to try and avoid that. I appreciate that she cares more about her craft and her listeners than she cares about limelight and fame. I mean you can tell by her performances that she just feels the music and doesn’t care how she looks to other people. Good for her. I hope she keeps on in that direction and doesn’t like fame sway her.

I like her attitude. She is pretty even though she looks older than her age.

It’s boring, but it’s stimulating encounters? uh, huh. Makes a lot of sense. SMH. @Erin @ 02/14/2014 at 5:58 pm If she sang only for herself, she could do that in the shower or anywhere around her house. She wanted people to hear her music, that’s why she signed a contract. She can’t have it both ways, which is what she seems to want. Of necessity and her JOB she’s getting to be more and more like the people she disdained.

She’s like Kristen Stewart in that way. They have this idea about what kind of person they are, yet they immerse themselves in all that goes with being a celebrity. Kristen started out being only for the art of acting, now she’s all over the place with fashion and perfume, and too many interviews. They all get sucked in sooner or later. Always look at what people do, not what they say.
