Johnny Depp: Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award Recepient 2014

Johnny Depp takes the stage to accept an award at the 2014 Make-Up Artists And Hair Stylists Guild Awards held at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday (February 15) in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old actor received the first-ever Distinguished Artisan Award for his work in films like Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland.

“This is a great honor, but glancing up at the screen I realize what a ridiculous thing I’ve done,” Johnny joked on stage (via ABC News). “I mean seriously, why do they still give me jobs? I’ve done a lot of things…I should probably apologize for a few, but I won’t.”

He added, “I found, oddly, that I liked being encased in all of that stuff. I try something different each time as an actor with the amazing help of makeup artists who have made my whole career.”

Earlier in the week, Johnny hit the red carpet with his fiancee Amber Heard to support her at the premiere of her new movie 3 Days to Kill at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood.

When you think about Johnny’s film career probably 75% of his roles were spent in makeup and prosthetics. I love John and I hope to see more of his beautiful real face in more serious movies. He’s a great actor but took the money grab like so many others.

@so funny: Not really. He didn’t wear *heavy* transformation makeup for Nightmare On Elem Street, Platoon, Private Resort, Cry-Baby, Arizona Dream, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny and Joon, Don Juan DeMarco, Nick Of Time, Dead Man, Donnie Brasco, The Brave, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, The Astronaut’s Wife, Sleepy Hollow, The Ninth Gate, The Man Who Cried, Chocolat, Blow, From Hell, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Secret Window, Finding Neverland, The Libertine, Public Enemies, The Tourist, The Rum Diary, Transcendence. That’s 90% of his roles and they were all without makeup and prosthetics.
