Can we not get rid of Black History Month and any other racist holidays? It’s 2014, not 1964. If there was a White History Month, then blacks would be lobbying in front of the White House to abolish it.

Unfortunately, white people end up “white-washing” everything when there is nothing to stop them from doing it. Whites dominate and everybody else just “fits in” where they can. Minorities will always be responsible for putting themselves “out there” in front or in positions of power and leadership.

@uh, no:

provide an example of this. I think its also racist to have the NAACP awards show..again if white people today in 2014 had a White Person Award Show honoring only white entertainers blacks would protest all across this country.

Honestly, people complains about Black History Month, Hispanic History Month or Asian History Month make me laugh. The world isn’t just about what you want to see. Everyone has the right to highlight and appreciate their own culture. America already defaults every thing to “White Culture”. You wouldn’t even know what these others groups contributed to our country or society without things like ethnic studies.

So if you don’t like it, don’t participate (basically business as usual). But don’t think anyone cares about your cries of discrimination, when your lack of inclusion is the sole reason for their existence.

@Aisaiko:

Fantastic reply!!

Thank you @ 02/23/2014 at 6:11 pm

@Aisaiko: You wrote that perfectly…thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I LOVE “when your lack of inclusion is the sole reason for their existence”. That statement right there sums it all up!!!

@Sweetness: lol they do its called the oscars every single person that wins that is white and there has hardly been hispanics/blacks/asians that win

@tick: we should get rid of Thanksgiving too but the white americans make out that its for “giving thanks” when really its celebrating killing the Native Americans. Would you agree that this is a “racist” holiday although hasn’t been labelled as such?

@Sweetness: oh hun there are organisations for white people like the NAACP. the congress and the senate.

@lea:
Sorry I have to have my turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy and stuffing. My neighbor brought me a really big plate last year (I no nolger cook) and it was great, had two dinners and one lunch out of that plate.

Waiting for the Lethal Weapon reboot with her and Rebel Wilson.

Wonder who get’s to say; “I’m too old for this ….”

trust that Black History Month is important not because it’s racist against anyone, because it is important to honor those who deserve it. The only problem I have personally is we should honor more cultures. Especially the Native Americans. Being that they weren’t held as slaves but they were almost eradicated off the planet. And just to also note that there is no such thing as a white culture default, because there is more than just one culture of “white” ..because no one honors my ancestors history. pls speak intelligently @Aisaiko if you are going to speak at all about important issues.

I love how the word racism is thrown about, Racist is when you decide your group is better than another and proceed to do anything to put down that group or marginalize them. Celebrating a group is not racist. Just like a women’s organization is not sexist because it exists. it is celebrating women. An Indian, Korean, Russian, Black, Hispanic, Native American organization is not racist if all it is doing is uplifting and celebrating a culture. WASP culture is celebrating everyday without question. You think a Jewish organization is racist too? Should they not celebrate the fact that they survived so much?

LACROIX: There is definitely a White culture default. There is one financially, culturally and racially. If you can’t see that then you have your head in the sand. I am white but my parents always made sure we went to all kinds of ethnic celebrations. Don’t you think there is a male culture default in the world where men are the beneficiaries of most things in the world? Should we not have a women’s celebration around the world to celebrate women? Is that sexist? We do honor a lot of cultures in America and if a culture wants to be celebrated then be organized and set up an organization to be celebrated. As long as you are positive then who cares. By the way, the NAACP Awards have nominated white, hispanic, asian and other races too. They celebrate diversity. A lot of white people have been nominated in their awards and remember this is an organization that was there to save the day when blacks did not have the right to vote, walk on the same side of the street etc. I think it is wonderful that they still exist to remind us of the contributions of black people in America. I am white and I am not the least bit threatened. Why are you?

@LaCroix:
You can split hair all you want. American culture, is considered White Culture. There are parts of the world (not third world either) that believe that American is filled with White people and no one else.

And FYI, November is Native American Heritage Month. Why don’t you try Google before speaking on important matters who obviously know nothing about.

@LaCroix:
Also Italian Heritage Month is October, Irish American Heritage Month is March. I NEVER hear anyone complain about these. I wonder why. I hate when racist like yourself, scream “what about me”. What about you? What do you do to educate others about your culture. I mean, other can come on JJ and whine?
