Schizophrenia is a serious psychiatric disorder. Good Luck to her and her parents. They fought the good fight for their daughter, and they have a long road ahead of them. They should be left alone because all the stress caused by paparazzi is likely to add to her stress and paranoia. If there is a ban on children, a ban should be on adults with a serious mental disorder like schizophrenia and the elderly with dementia. Only bullies make fun of the mentally disabled. Dr. CMoore

Well said, Dr. Moore. The real Amanda Bynes, that has come to the surface so to speak, through the efforts of herself, her family, her doctors, and medication… is a sweetheart. She’s gentle and kind, and I’m not surprised by her statement “I love you” to all of her well wishers. On a personal level, her story has improved my own relationship and understanding of someone in my life who suffers from schizophrenia. There is a woman who is about twice Amanda’s age, who lives a floor below me in my apartment building, she is in her mid 50′s and her condition is far more advanced than Amanda’s is, but that is to be expected given her age. She is married and has a daughter who is in her early 20′s. Her husband and her daughter and her routine are pretty much her life. She is basically never alone except when her husband goes to work, M-F. And even then, her daughter will pop in from college during those days. She has a car and she goes to the gym nearly everyday, M-F, just like Amanda does. People who have schizophrenia are not aggressive. They are the opposite of aggressive, they are afraid of their own shadow most of the time. They don’t like changes in their routine and they like their personal space. For instance, I was walking by this woman a couple of days ago and as we were passing by each other, I hesitated and said “Hello, how are you?” and that completely threw her. Anything they are not expecting will stop them dead in their tracks. She meekly said “hello” back and proceeded on her way. This is why, the photographers really need to give Amanda her space, because she is probably legitimately terrified of them, especially the weirdos that hide in bushes.

Good for Amanda! Glad to see she got the help she needed and that her family stepped up and supported her.
