Matthew McConaughey Won't Be Back for 'True Detective' Season 2

Matthew McConaughey shows off his support for his Just Keep Livin’ organization while stopping by a doctor’s office on Wednesday (March 5) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actor revealed backstage at the Academy Awards this weekend that he won’t be returning for a second season of his hit HBO series True Detective.

“No, no, we won’t be back for season two,” he told reporters. “Season one was finite.”

“I think there’s an episode probably airing right now,” he added. “Has anyone seen it? I made the thing, read the script, knew it upside and down. I’m not sure what happens in tonight’s episode.”

FYI: Matthew is wearing Puma Classic Suede Sneakers and a Levi’s Made & Crafted Leather Biker Jacket.

    It was already established one cast for one season. Where’s the story here?

    It’s so weird to read “the oscar winning actor” damn! Who would’ve have thought McCoco had it in him to be a decent actor? Not me that’s for sure! lol

    Well just think of Jared Leto 10 years ago in My So-Called Life – did anyone guess then he’d be Mr. Cool Oscar guy now? most likely not…but I say good for Matthew and Jared – they were given the oppportunity to play this, gave it their all and now are reaping the fruits they sowed.

    @Eve: that’s exactly what I was thinking!

    I can imagine that things have been tough for his family. He had to restrict his diet to lose all that weight. Take away food, and you will become cranky — especially lowering your carb intake will make you irritable. He has 3 kids, the youngest being under two. After all his hectic pace the last year, I hope he takes some time to be with the family and do a lot of what he did before with them. I know he loves to work out and go the beach, etc. With young children, it’s so important to teach-teach-teach — at every opportunity you can… exposing them to life and other people… helping them socialize and have friends. There is so much good you can put into children at a young age that prepares them for later. And Matthew’s wife must need a break and time to regroup and re-energize after 3 babies. I’m sure she needs Matthew’s help at every turn. Mom and Dad working together makes parenting a lot easier, of course. Matthew can’t leave Hollywood now or they’ll forget him, but I hope he can now be choosier about work since he won an Oscar.

    Wow! That’s a lot of thoughts abou Mcconaughey family, isn’t it? Don’t care this much about people who don’t even know you.

    Matthew’s speech was goobly gook and ego stroking after he said the part about God. I kept wondering when the h ell he was going to shut up. He’s officially stuck on himself as if he wasn’t already. His wife needs romance in her life, that out of her own mouth.

    @Jessie: We all thought it was a GREAT speech! One of the best all evening. Love Matthew for giving credit to the Creator for all his blessings. So many stars stroke their own egos by believing they are in total control of things. Phooey!

    Great performance, yes. Best speech? I suppose if self-absorbed fits the category which isn’t surprising given celebrity. Quite a contrast from Leto’s speech or Lupita’s. To not reference the real-life Ron Woodroof or disease speaks volumes in itself. No wonder he doesn’t need his TV show anymore.
