Drew Barrymore: 'I Don't Think I'm a Good Actor'

Drew Barrymore and her husband Will Kopelman go shopping on Sunday afternoon (March 9) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 39-year-old pregnant actress recently revealed in a new New York Times interview that she doesn’t think she’s a good actor.

“I don’t think I’m a good actor. I feel like it’s fake and yucky and it just doesn’t ring true,” Drew said. “But like Robert said, if you research and you study and make it personal, you just become that person, and it’s your truth and everything else around you falls away. Then you’re telling the truth, it’s not lying, it’s not fake. So he gave me that wisdom because at 6, I guess I was comfortable and more humorous than I would have remembered now. But once I got older and kept continuing acting, I don’t know if I would have succeeded without that advice, because it’s the thing that saved me. I’m not an actor, I’m a pretender.”

You’re 100% right there, Drew!
When your best ever performance is in ET – you know that you’re awful!

# 2

When the many of your last films co-star Adam Sandler, you know your acting is not exactly setting people on fire or your would get better parts. I like Drew as a person, but her career choices are awful and none have shown ANY acting chops whatsover. She needs a career overhaul.

You obviously never saw her in Grey Gardens as little Edie Beale. She was amazing. Completely authentic and believable.

# 4

@Patra: Agreed. I never thought she was much of an actress but she was excellent in “Grey Gardens”. She clearly put her all into playing that part. Jessica Lange was absolutely incredible in “Grey Gardens” too. I wish that it had been theatrically released because it really deserved more attention.

95% of all hollywood actors are only puppets spitting out lines they memorized, the genius is all behind the camera work def not by the puppets and their delicate egos lol

# 6

No joke. I will never forget her saying, I’m rich, what do you want me to do live like I’m poor. I could never get used to living like I’m poor. She could have said it in a better way. How insensitive. I used to like her before that point.

She is beautiful, but with a mediocre career.

Nice to see Drew again !
So it´s seems to be all a question of believe.
In the past she had to believe that she´s a good actress in order to get enough self confidence – in order to avoid believing that she could not be good enough.
And now she has so much self confidence, that she can judge about herself from an objective point of view. Therefore she says now, that she believe, that she´s not a good actress.
The question is: What´s the reason for the increase of her self confidence? I think it´s that fact, that now she´s happy married with Will and that she´ll get her second baby. Her private life is now the best she´s ever had.
But Drew, you talents as an actress are good enough to make big entertainment in comedic movies. And that´s what counts. Your strenght is still your GREAT HUMUROUS HEART, yep !
DREW-POWER-FOREVERRRRRDrewHasABigHumurousHeart, yep !
217, give me 5, makes 222, THE MAGIC DREW !
I´ll never forget the way you imitated the sounds of a pig on the DVD of the 2nd Charlies-Angels-movie. So funny !!!
The sound was like this:
Njock-Njock-quack-quack-iiiihh !
