Lena Dunham Opens Up About Hollywood Sexism at SXSW!

Lena Dunham is fun and flirty as she strikes a pose while attending her Keynote during the 2014 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival held at the Austin Convention Center on Monday (March 10) in Austin, Tex.

The 27-year-old actress hit the stage to talk about her upbringing, her hit show Girls, and addressed the differences in opportunities for male and female actors in Hollywood.

“Something has to change and I’m trying,” Lena expressed (via Variety). “People are ready to see Adam Driver play a million different guys in one year – from lotharios to villains to nerds. Meanwhile [co-stars] Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet are still waiting for parts they can get interested in.”

FYI: Lena is wearing a Kenzo dress and Narciso Rodriguez shoes.

    Truth Says:

adam driver is the only one out of all of them that isnt on that show for nepotism reasons

    Isa Says:

Maybe that’s because Adam Driver is actually a really good actor? Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet not so much…

    Living in a box Says:

I think she confused between the words sexism and nepotism.

im sorry but this girl is not humble no matter how hard she tries to seem

I get what Lena is saying but Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Marmet aren’t getting roles for a reason. Put them on another show or movie and they will still play the same character even Lena herself.

Lena is very ugly. Person like her should not be in public. She’s just wrong. Fat ugly woman. Go away. Disgusting.

    Evie Says:

Her point is not lack of talent is lack of roles people!! She said that Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Marmet haven’t come across something they were interested in because the roles for women in hollywood aren’t as diverse as they are for men.

    Not Bella Says:

@Mila: Not true. Zosia Marmet played a gay writer in Mad Men and that role was so cool and different to her role in Girls.

    @Evie:

I think everyone is saying that the 3 actresses are not being offered good roles since they are not as talented as Adam Driver. If they were more talented, I think they would be getting better offers. And nepotism is a big reason why they even got the roles in Girls in the first place (although I think Zosia Mamet does have potential, but she’s not as major of a character in Girls).

    Yeah Yeah Says:

Adam can act. She seems to forget that. As for Zosia talented and quirky. Maybe after Girls she’ll gt her own tv show.

We need more people like Lena in this self-obsessed and egoistic Hollywood enviroment. Glad to see that such intelligent and strong women still exist and are incredibly succesful.

    *so intelligent. sorry

    Richard Says:

It’s funny whenever we see these women complain about this particular topic, I mean, it’s not as if they’re going to go to Sumner Redstone’s office and protest him to put finances behind productions that have better Female roles. No they’ll just sit there and complain.
