Crisis' Halston Sage: Just Jared Spotlight Shoot (Exclusive!)

Halston Sage Interview – JustJared.com Exclusive

Just Jared: Congratulations on Crisis! How did you get involved in this project?

Halston Sage: Thank you!!! During pilot season, you read so many scripts that you fall in love with a character, storyline, or idea. Then I read this script, I knew immediately I had to be a part of this project. It was the smartest writing I’ve ever read and it had me on the edge. I couldn’t wait to read the next episode. So I auditioned, the stars aligned, and here I am. It’s crazy!

JJ: What has been your favorite scene to film so far?

HS: It’s at the end, and I got to do a stunt. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but it was really cool. I gave my character a really great edge. I play Amber Fitch, the class president, and she comes from a great family in Washington, D.C., with a really powerful mom, and a great relationship with her mom. When she gets kidnapped, she’s vulnerable for the first time and her strength is really tested. I like that she was able to kind of get through the trauma and come out on top.

JJ: For your stunt, were there weapons involved?

HS: There was a weapon. Mm-hmm, there was a shovel. And that’s all I’m going to say! (laughs) But you can imagine a lot of things that you could do with a shovel.

JJ: Did you film them all in Chicago? Since you’re from LA, how did you stay warm?

HS: Yes. I just live in a blanket basically. I have a coat that is a sleeping bag. I made a rule that if it’s below zero, I just don’t leave my apartment, so I’ve kind of learned to cook. Not by choice. (laughs) I kind of hibernate and I just stay under blankets all day long.

JJ: What’s your favorite prop from set?

HS: That’s a great question! Well, we’re kidnapped, so we’re not really given anything. So I would have to say my favorite prop is the one that I end up finding and it’s definitely a shovel.

JJ: Do you have a favorite off-screen moment?

HS: You know, I lucked out with the cast. Between all of the great kids, cast of kids that we have, and the adults, it’s just an inspiring environment. One of my favorite moments off-screen was, I was just hanging out with Gillian Anderson and Rachael Taylor, and I look up to them so much. I admire them both, as actresses and as people. Just to sit and talk with them, it’s amazing.

JJ: Do you have a favorite memory from one of those conversations?

HS: Yeah, any conversation I have with Rachael Taylor is amazing because she has this great Australian accent. So when I’m talking to her, I’m kind of like a puppy dog, just like looking at her. She’s the sweetest human being you could ask for. She gives me really good advice and she’s become kind of like a friend to me.
